The whole experience was a dream from start to finish. The room was excellent coupled with helpful and thoughtful staff. I had a swim up suite which was a great idea but I never used it as the pools were not crowed and of course they had swim up bars. We used room service after a day trip which was quality although the menu was limited . Mini bar was replenished daily and cleaners were excellent . Each block has its own concierge who again were excellent Sun beds were ample but in order to secure the usual place we got up at 6pm which wasn't a hardship as breakfast starts at 5:30. We were in room 5108 which was a bit away from the main area but transport is available in the form of golf buggies. You can either wait for these or order by ringing 6000. The pool area was clean and towels readily available. The bar staff were brilliant, friendly , polite and very efficient ( got plenty of headaches to prove it). There are 16 restaurant to chose from each and everyone of which are stunning. Staff are outstanding as is the quality and presentation of food. There were only two occasions where we had to queue but again no hardship as there are bars to wait in. The Ballinies bar has stunning views with another bar outside looking over the sea.
The only issue I had was that Wi-Fi was not free, but hey ho in the cosmic scheme of things a little grip just because I'm British. Overall and outstanding hotel. « less

We have visited El Dorado Royale three times, now, and have never been disappointed. The staff are friendly and efficient, the food is the best of any resort we have visited in the Yucatan, and the property has the most room to spread out and enjoy a peaceful day if that is your thing. But still has plenty of group activities/areas for socializing and partying. The grounds are immaculate and clean. It is the only all-inclusive adult-only I've visited that I was happy just to stay on the property all week and not feel the need to leave for an off-property activity. The buildings are three stories and comparable to most rooms at other resorts we have visited, with marble bath suites and tile throughout the room. The beds are so comfortable that after our first trip we came home and tried to find the same bed, and the same rain showerhead. The lower level rooms have a patio and the upper level rooms have balconies, with chairs, to enjoy a cool evening sea breeze. The swim-up suites also have a shallow-water area with in-the-water lounge chairs to relax in, and these are connected to one of the many pool areas by swimmable canals. You can swim from your room to the pool and back! We spent a lot of time relaxing just outside our own room and visiting with our neighbors. A swim-up bar is just a short canal swim away, too. There are several dining choices throughout the property. Our favorites are: Kampai with sushi and other far east cuisine; try the Volcano and Spicy Tuna rolls, and D'Italia (request a table with Pedro, he was the best!) You may make reservations ahead of time, but we never had a problem getting in without one. Also, the liquor choices, while not comprehensive, have more premium brands than any other all-inclusive resort we've seen. The many reasons we like EDR include: they have options for poolside lounging; some pools are small and more cozy (in the Casitas area) and others are large and activity based (Fuentes pool) and a few medium size pools, too. We usually frequent the Fuentes pool because there are a lot of lounge beds in shaded areas to escape the relentless sun while poolside lounge chairs are available for sunbathing. Fuentes Pool also plays music all day and the K-staff host activities there, (take an informative bike tour of the property with Manuel in the morning before it heats up!) Each section of buildings has butler or concierge booths nearby where restaurant reservation can be made and any questions can be addressed quickly. Karisma Resorts bill themselves as "Gourmet Inclusive," and they really try to make this true, with more success than any other resort we have visited. The food sourcing/availability in the Yucatan is likely to blame, but no place we have ever visited in Mexico has ever had the quality most American's are used to. The fish and fruit are always very good, but red meat is often less than expected, especially steaks, (but D'Italia has the best steak I've had in Mexico.) The beach area is protected from erosion by man-made giant sandbags, which may detract from the view for some, but actually blend in well and make for a very nice beach with some wave area and some calm areas for swimming and snorkeling and plenty of water activities are available, including snorkel equipment, kayaks, and jet-skis (charge for jet-ski.) The only problem at EDR is the limited beach palapas and chairs available (except in the Casitas area, where each room has a reserved palapa.) A real issue is that selfish guests will come to the beach in the early morning and place personal items on the palapas to "reserve" them for themselves and not return until mid-morning or even later. On this trip we spent a day on the beach in a palapa lounge. We went out early at 7am to be sure to get one. While we watched, people were coming down to place towels, books, beach bags, etc. on a palapa to reserve it and all palapas were "taken" before 8 am, but at most of them no one returned until after 10 or even noon. This really should be addressed by the resort and any items left for more than an hour should be removed by resort personnel so that others may use them. This would allow time to get something to eat and return to your palapa. Of course, if you want to pay the extra $1000-plus, a room in the Casita's area will get you a reserved palapa. Overall, El Dorado Royale does it better than any other all-inclusive I've visited in the Riviera Maya area. We plan to return each year. « less

El Dorado Royale was recommended for our honeymoon location by our wedding planner, Rachel, and we are so happy that we chose this resort! First, I want to share my experience with Beach Bum Vacation. Rachel from Beach Bum Vacation helped us plan the entire wedding and our honeymoon. She was amazing with extremely quick response time to our emails and she also answered our guests' questions. Rachel truly provided service that was way beyond our expectations and truly took care of us from day one. It's been over three months since our destination wedding and she still sends us random "hello" emails just to keep in touch. Rachel provided personable service from day one and we truly appreciate her working so hard to make sure our wedding and honeymoon experience was amazing. If you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed about planning your wedding or honeymoon, we totally recommend Rachel from Beach Bum Vacation. My wife and I can't imagine what our experience would have been like if we didn't have Rachel by our sides.
Ok, so, El Dorado Royale...where can I start... I can only say that "everything was excellent!!" And when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING! The resort was simply beautiful everywhere we looked. The food was amazing at every restaurant we tried. Even the food at the healthy bar where they serve salads and simple sandwiches was so refreshing and amazing. I think every place we ate, my wife and I said "we are coming back to this restaurant tomorrow again". We ate so much food there and seriously, everything we ate was so good. They even have their own green house inside of the property and most of the vegetables are picked from the green house.
My wife and I truly enjoyed the experience at the El dorado Royale. We definitely recommend this place for honeymoon or even a simple romantic getaway. We are already talking about returning there for our first anniversary. It was worth every dollar!! « less

I got married here in October 2012. Of course the one day it rains was on my wedding day but the wedding staff was great! Luckily the weather was gorgeous for the actual ceremony but we got rained out for our reception on the beach. We ended up getting moved to a meeting hall which wasn't the prettiest but I was told earlier in the day that if I chose to proceed with my beach reception and it rained that I would forfeit everything and have no reception at all. However, this was not the case and the wedding staff hustled to move everything as best they could to the meeting hall. I still got to have my dancing, dinner, and celebration. Even though it wasn't my ideal place for my reception I was so thankful they let me have it at all.
The resort itself is gorgeous. We stayed on the Casitas side and had a swim up suite which was perfect!! Our other guests stayed on the Royale side and that side was great too. We loved the nightlife shows. We went to the Cirque de Soleil theme night and the fire dancing another and it was great!! We booked a couple excursions through the resort and they were so-so. We went scuba diving one day which I wasn't too impressed with but knocked that off the bucket list. We also took a catamaran trip and the boat itself was great but I didn't really like the ports we stopped at. If thinking about going on excursions I think you should research it and book through someone else. I felt we paid way more than we should have.
The staff here is great though. The entire time we were there we only had two employees that were a little rude but other than that everything was great! In fact, on our wedding day we gave my mom the key to our safe to grab the rings and such. Well she was a little frazzled and forgot to lock it back up. We had our passports, cash, jewelry and all in there. We came back to a note saying they secured our safe and to contact our concierge immediately to take an inventory and make sure everything was there. Sure enough everything was there and nothing was missing. The honesty and actions they took with this really impressed me and was such a relief!
We tipped here and there when we felt our service deserved it but never felt like we had to tip. Drinks were never weak for us! I really enjoyed the Diablo, Mango Tango, and Chocolate Martinis when I was in the fruity mood but their other mixed drinks were great too! Food is great! Kampai was my favorite. The tuna was out of this world and I hate sushi! There were very few things I didn't like. We had a candlelit dinner on the beach and I wasn't a big fan of the lobster bisque (My husband loved it though) and I told the waiter and he brought me something else right away with no hassle. I highly recommend the candlelit dinner on the beach. It's so romantic. We got serenaded by a saxophone player and all. It's was perfect. Jojo's is tasty and Rincon Mexicana was delish! Try the carne asada at Rincon Mexicana. Yum! The culinary theater and health bar were closed so I didn't get to try those out. Bummer!
We also did the hydrotherapy (free for casitas guests) and the massages on the beach. One word... Heavenly!!
We are going back again this October for our anniversary/honeymoon. I feel spoiled now because I don't think I can ever go anywhere else that even compares to this place. I highly recommend this place!
One tip is to pack your swim suit in your carry on because sometimes your room isn't ready when you get there. We just brought a change of clothes/suits in our backpack so we could relax as soon as we got there. « less

El Dorado Royale is a beautiful resort and the staff is very friendly and helpful. My Daughter got married there and they made it a wonderful occasion. The wedding staff got everything exactly as we wanted it. Don't was your money on the fireworks though, as they are only 2" long sparklers that last 2 seconds. « less
