This hotel has been extended in all directions and is on several levels which will be challenging if you struggle with steps. The layout is odd and confusing not least the location and style of the reception area which is hidden at the back of the hotel - unless you ignore obvious entrances which face the road and follow the signs to the conference & leisure suite at the rear. It would probably be ok for a big business convention but as a leisure break hotel it feels heartless. The pool area is tatty. Breakfast was good but the buffet on a different level down some steps and the restaurant manager was overly attentive bordering on creepy. The bar food was very good and a much cheaper option than the restaurant. Room was fine and the bathroom lovely. « less

We have spent three nights in this hotel. We found all the staff very helpful and friendly, they went out of their way to help us. Our standard room had been recently refurbished and was very clean and comfortable.. The bathroom was very modern and an adequate size. There was plenty of hot water and toiletries. We ate in the restaurant on two evenings and the food and service was excellent, there was a lovely atmosphere. We ate a bar meal one evening and again the food was beautiful and service very good. The lounge area is very comfortable. There is a large car park. I went to the leisure centre which was very clean and the pool a good size. I was disappointed the jacuzzi was not working. « less

We have just returned from our 5th visit to the Castle Inn over the last 3 or 4 years . After every other visit I would have given the hotel 5 stars without question but this time it has to be a little less im afraid.
We paid 240 quid for a standard room for 2 nights and then paid another 40 quid on arrival for the dinner upgrade for one night. The room was really nice and had lovely views of Skiddaw and the lake. On leaving the hotel however we were charged for 2 nights dinner upgrade and it took us 15 minutes to convince reception that we had not used the hotel for dinner on the second night. Talking of reception it has moved from the front of the building to the rear nearer to the big car park.It must have cost a lot of money and I cant see how it improves the hotel to be honest. This money could have / should have been spent on the leisure facilities. These are now looking tired and need redecorating and the changing rooms in particular need a bit of a clean. The jacuzzi wasnt working and a local lady we spoke to in the sauna said it had been out of order for a few months. In the hotel book it says they are about to spend 2 million on these facilities but I remember reading this 2 years ago when we visited.
The evening meal in the Lakers bar was excellent and very good value and Scott who was looking after the bar that night was very nice. The afternoon menu is ok if you are a senior citizen (2 courses for 6.95 from a menu with a lot of choice ) but not so good if you are younger like us as the lunch options were limited and I was quoted £7.25 for a chip butty!
Overall the Castle Inn is still a very nice place to stay in an excellent location and we will probably stay there again at some point but we do feel that standards have slipped in certain areas and worry that the hotel may lose future custom because of this. « less

This was our second stay at the Castle Inn. The room we were finally allocated was disappointing considering that we had booked two months in advance on the 18th of February and had paid the supplement for a guaranteed superior room - it was our Ruby wedding anniversary, and did not wish to end up in a basic room for three nights. The first room we were given had a trellis in front of the window and overlooked the reception entrance...
When I complained, we were told the hotel was full and they would try to do something. The next room we were shown (the only one we were going to be offered, we were told) was a bit better, but still had an eight foot hedge in front of the windows and a smaller bed. I suspect the Conference guests staying overnight were allocated the good rooms?
On a positive note, breakfast was excellent each morning, and the quality of the food served at dinner was excellent. The £25 DBB allowance did not go far in the main restaurant and the menu did not change during our three night stay. There was no Table d'hôte menu.
We ate in Lakers Bar on the second night and the food (and choice) were excellent, as was the member of staff who served us!
All the staff were all excellent and did their best to make the stay pleasant.
We very much had the feeling that this is a Business hotel and is not really geared to guests staying on a Leisure break. I suspect we will not be back. « less

Dear Guest Thank you for reviewing your recent stay with us at the Castle Inn Hotel.
We appreciate your kind words about the team and the food and beverage offerings.
I am sorry that you were not satisfied with your room. Due to layout and size of the hotel all our rooms have different out-looks, but most with the exception of 4 overlook the Gardens, Mountains or Lake.
I do hope we have the opportunity in welcoming you back in the near future and if we do please contact the hotel direct and they will be able to help in allocating the best possible room for your needs.
Kind regards
Peter.

Went for a mini dancing holiday break with 30 freinds to the Castle Inn hotel, booked in for B & B and evening meal inclusive. We found the hotel very clean with excellent service throughout. The only down side was that the meals menu was very limited for the price and coffee was an extra. The quality of the food however was excellent. The facilities at the hotel are very good with an excellent ballroom, superb swimming pool, very good childrens entertainment facilities, and lovely gardens. The hotel is situated in an excellent part of the lake district and also makes an superb base for touring this beautiful part of the country. The rooms were well appointed very clean, quiet, and comfortable. Would have no hesitation in reccommending this hotel. « less

Dear Guest
Thank you for your recent review and kind words.
I am disappointed to read that you were not happy with the menu during your stay. We do consult with the organiser of the group to decide the daily changing menu and all guests then have a choice of three starters, three main courses and three desserts.
We welcome a huge number of dance groups throughout the year and it is encouraging to hear the positive feedback from our guests, particularly because we have the largest sprung dance floor in the Lake District.
Thank you once again and I look forward to welcoming you back.
Best wishes
Peter.
