As we were on a 3 day Leger coach tour, 3 - 6 May which took in Paris, Versailles and Monet's garden, we had no choice of hotel, and with the incredibly reasonable price of the trip, we had no high expectations of the accommodation. We had anticipated a really outdated and basic hotel, and a meagre breakfast - we could not have been more wrong!
The hotel is about a 3½ hour drive from Calais and 25 minutes from the centre of Paris.
On our first night as we did not check in until 9.30pm, for convenience we decided to eat in the hotel. The restaurant by the hotel entrance was rather dark and the uninspiring 3 course set menu was 26 euros pp, so we opted for the comfortable bar area.
We chose a club sandwich (10 euros), stacked with ham, cheese and salad with crisps on the side which was delicious and a burger (13 euros) which is probably one of the best we have ever tasted - the meat may have been undercooked for some but it just melted in your mouth, it was accompanied by a massive portion of chips and individual jars of ketchup and mustard.
The reception staff were delightful; very helpful and knowledgeable with maps and information to hand out. Had we wanted to go into Paris independently, it would have been easy; turning right out of the hotel, the bus stop a minute away and taking bus 258 to La Défense métro station at a cost of 2 euros pp. Tickets can be bought on the bus.
We had requested a quiet non-smoking room which was honoured. Perhaps smoking was not permitted throughout the hotel as we did not see anyone smoking inside.
Our room, 226 on the 2nd floor was lovely. There are two lifts if you need one. Only bizarre thing was getting into the room; swiping a plastic card down the side of the lock (which is no longer in use although the key hole is still there) and it took many attempts each time to get the card to work!
Once in the room, you put the card in a slot to activate the lights. Very large bedroom and bathroom with good quality toiletries and a separate toilet. There was masses of storage, plenty of hangers and a safe in the wardrobe. Free to use and an interesting way to open and close by swiping a credit card. There was also a large-screen TV.
There was a plastic (only criticism) bath which was deep and quite slippery and a detachable shower with excellent water flow.
The double bed was very comfortable with a choice of firm or soft pillows. As we had hit lucky with the weather, we were very pleased to have such effective air conditioning.
The breakfast area was delightful, bright and airy with a view of the lovely outside decked garden area with tables, umbrellas and chairs (also the view from our bedroom window). Breakast choices were good; the most wonderful large croissants; pain au chocolat, baguettes, unsalted butter and bonne maman jam. There was also scrambled egg, sausages and bacon, but not for us, when in France ........There was a range of good quality juices (not watery), cold meats, cheeses, yoghurts and cereals. For people who may have been thinking about taking food away for a picnic lunch, we were prewarned that this is not allowed and would be charged to the room as 'room service', so twice the cost of paying for it as part of the b&b deal.
Although Bougival is a small town, there are plenty of restaurants nearby, some within a 5 or 10 minute walk by turning left out of the hotel. We had sussed these out on Trip Advisor before we left and so took a list with us. The reception staff were very helpful in making the reservation for the Saturday night for us at Chéz Clement which was a bit further away, around 20 - 25 minutes. It had a lovely ambiance and décor but the food was expensive and not great; we could really only recommend their crème brûlée.
On researching which restaurants would be open on the Sunday evening, we only found only one; Maroc en Yvelines which was excellent. Again left out of the hotel and about a 7 minute walk.We opted for a tagine. the chicken one with olives and lemon accompanied by couscous which was delicious. With 2 beers, a bottle of wine and service we paid 65 euros.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in the Holiday Inn and found it extremely comfortable and convenient in every way; we would recommend it unreservedly. « less

This hotel is ideally located if you are on a coach trip! It's about 20mins outside the city but we travelled with Ledger and if you do all the trips you get picked up + dropped off :-)
Rooms - really good, beds very comfy and when we needed more milk etc it came very quickly. My mother-in-laws flannel got taken though so she wasn't impressed!
Food- breakfast was excellent! Everything for a continental breakfast plus bacon + sausages BUT we arrived late on the Friday + were asked if we wanted a 3 course meal on arrival for €25 we did BUT we're disappointed :-( ...just cold food, salads etc not really worth the price!! Our coach driver tried to get us some money back but no luck.
All in all though a nice clean hotel, friendly staff but not ideally placed if you want to do Paris on foot!! « less

Stayed at the Holiday Inn Bougival, on the 19th to 22nd April, as part of Leger Coach Tour. This was my experience. Day One: As we arrived after a nine hour coach trip, we were told by the coach guide (Rob), that the Hotel was unable to offer a'la carte, due to the numbers arriving. All the Hotel could offer would be a buffet at 25 Euros per person. We asked the coach guides if there were any other restaurants in Bougival, and were wrongly told there were only two (a pizza take away and kebab shop). Thus we believed we had no alternative but to accept the buffet. Terrible mistake: When we arrived in the restaurant, it was in complete uproar with virtually everyone on our coach complaining in a very vocal way, about the appalling quality of the food, and demanding a refund. When we looked at what was causing the fuss, we saw what can only be described as pigs swill. In one container were lumps of indeterminate meat floating in ice cold marmite water, and in another were lumps of indeterminate fish floating in ice cold tomatoe coloured (but not flavoured ) water. The fish stank to high heaven, and I suspect was on the turn, so I would not eat it. The meat offering was a mixture of meat either cooked to destruction, or completely raw with blood floating into the surrounding marmite water. It was completely tasteless as the liquid had no onions or mushrooms, to flavour it, and the flavour of the meat had somehow disappeared. Vegetables accompanying the meal were semi roast potatoes, and mixed veg which had been boiled to destruction. The puddings were basically lumps of sponge cake covered in butter icing, with a bowl of oranges. Anyway after trying to chew an ice cold lump of meat for five minutes and finally forcing it down my throat, I did what everyone else did, which was to leave my meal and settle for a 5 Euro refund (in reality the entire cost should have been refunded - but we were all too tired to keep shouting). Within half an hour I started vomiting, and continued vomiting until 3.15 am. The next day, I attempted to eat half a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast, but immediately brough them up, as my stomach was still upset, and when we went into Paris, I also brought up my lunch.
Day two: Breakfast OK, but TV in room stopped working, so no access to the world service. Was told that all the the TV's in the hotel had packed up, and that an engineer had been contacted (but they were still not working when we left of the 22nd April). In the evening, the restaurant closed and there was no food available at all. They said this was because most of the coach parties had gone into Paris. What sort of 4* Hotel closes it's restaurant, because guests are eating elsewhere? Don't they have any local customers who would want to eat there? There are at least a dozen restaurants in Bougival and when we went past, they all seemed packed to the gummels, so one wonders why the Holiday Inn couldn't attract local customers. The answer we suspect is because the french wouldn't tolerate such disgusting rubbish.
Day three no hot water in the morning, so we had to heat a kettle and make do with a wash. This Hotel is definitely not 4*.The decor in the lounge is smart, but the corridors are dark, dingly desperately in need of refurbishment, and wreak of air freshener The room was clean and tidy, and on a par with Premier Inn, but had we stayed at a Premier Inn we would have at least had access to a restaurant. Glad to leave and wouldn't recommend to anyone. « less

It was my first trip to Paris and I didn't know French which had its own challenges. However, somehow I managed to reach the hotel from Gar De Nord. I was greeted by an English speaking gentleman behind the reception. He provided me guide maps of the city and how to reach Eiffel Tower as the trip to the hotel had taken almost 2-3 hrs. The room was comfortable however a long walk. The dinner was a treat including seafood. The morning breakfast buffet is a must as it will keep you full for most of day when you need to do the sightseeing. Overall a great weekend at the property. « less
