Stayed on 11th May 2013 for one night. As against the rent charged (Corporate Negotiated rate ), the room was very good with all star hotel amenities. Lobby area was impressive. Staff was very eager to help us out-again impressive. Location was good if one wants to stay within the city but far off from the Airport as the time required may be around one hour, Outside view from Room window was good from city Hotel perspective though nothing spectacular. A discotheque is also there with discounted rates for the Hotel guests but there was hardly any visitors being non-weekend day but otherwise the same was good. Local city attractions- Kalighat, Rabindra Sadan, Park street, Victoria Palace, Planetarium and Tram are all locate very nearby.
The hotel food and variety in buffet was good but relatively costly ( around Rs 1700/- for buffet dinner )as against the Hotel room Tariff. Even alacarte food was costly. During the day there was some noise coming perhaps owing to some construction work going on but same was bearable.Swimming pool was under maintenance.
Only disturbing feature was absence of Satellite set up box in TV. I think they are still using cable tv and one has to search the whole TV for getting to the appropriate channel. Very frustrating
Overall a nice property and if one is comfortable with the food cost , worth staying. « less

well !! I had few expectation because I had been in kolkata earlier and heard a lot about the place. Considering my expectations, I would rate the place average. Might be I had higher expectations and I had been to places which are top notch in terms of hospitality.
I would rate the food as excellent. That's what Kolkata stands for and HHI stands true to that.

I had to make a last minute trip to Cal, and was not able to find room in my fav Hotels, and was recommended HHI. I called them and asked for availability and sent in my details via email, which was immediately confirmed. Overall the trip was fine, and I had most everything I needed, well taken care of. However, having lived in some very nice hotels, I tend to expect a high quality of service, and this is where some of my quibbles come in. However, for the price, this is a decent hotel.
Pros: Pick-up at the Howrah Railway Station and check-in was smooth. The location seems to be quite central as well. On arrival, I found that I had been upgraded to the Regal Suite on the 3rd floor which was really nice - Yayy!! The suite had a nice sitting room and bedroom. The mattress was comfy and was set on an antique-y heavy wood bed, which was great too. The sheets however felt cheap. The bathroom fixings were dated, but everything that one would need was there. Little things like rust on the door chain can be taken care of. Some more art work can also be placed on the walls, as they looked empty. The art work, which was there - ancient-y hindu art was very nice. I had buffet dinner at the Mythh which was satisfactory as well, accompanied by IPL on a large screen. In the morning, the car was ready on time, and I sent some papers to be printed at the lobby, which was done efficiently (and without charge, which was nice). The breakfast was also satisfactory, and I enjoyed my chilli cheese dosa. Front desk staff was great. I also used the Parlor downstairs, and the service was decent.
A few minor cons: The staff at Mythh, could use some more training - for eg. when I arrived at breakfast, I should have been shown to a table, because none were clean or unoccupied. On asking, I was just waved in the general direction of an unoccupied table. I saw another gentleman having to sit down on a dirty table (he seemed to be in a hurry) and having to request for cutlery. It would also have been nice if someone came by and asked me if I wanted tea or coffee, which obviously were not on the buffet. I would say that the dinner staff had better training, than the breakfast staff. My driver was fine, but also low on training. When a man on the scooter hit the side mirror, he called out to the man to give him an earful. Another time, he made a wrong left turn and was stopped by the police and had to go and do the paperwork.
Final word: The place has all the trappings of a 4*, but a few things are dated and the staff need some more training. For a short stay on a budget, this is not a bad place. « less
