just stopped down the coast on the route from LA to San Francisco for a coffee and stooped to stroke a dog - just to cut a long story short - this couple (dog owners) told us about this amazing hotel - and it was - oh my god! so quirky - we checked in late so didn't have much of a choice - but our room was amazing - so quircky - and the hotel is so PINK!!! fantastic food - fantastic bar staff and waiters - it was such a fantastic stay for one night. I keep using the word fantastic, but actually it was! The only thing I would say is that the rooms are not very sound proof - there was a couple somewhere near to us who kept us awake all night - I thought she was being murdered then realised, after 2 hours that she wasn;t! « less

We had an amazing dinner in the beautiful restaurant, the pool was wonderful. It was a wonderful experience that we have decided to make an annual trip. « less

The Madonna Inn is absolutely ridiculous! It's garish, it's bold, bright and brash, it's hugely over the top, and it's great! My fiancé and I were driving up Highway 1 from LA to San Fran and picked this place out in advance as a stop on our adventure. The place used to be a coach stop, and was developed by the Madonna family who were also one time partners with John Wayne. Every room is completely unique, with rocks from the surrounding hills forming feature walls and 'rock pool' showers. The restaurant was fabulous-fantastic steak and great cocktails, as well as some gorgeous red wine! The pool is beautiful-but spa treatments were a little on the expensive side! Stayed for two nights and would absolutely return again!! « less

We hadn't prebooked, just rocked up & were initially allocated a room - sorry I cant remember the name. It wasn't the "extreme" Madonna Inn experience we were hoping for so we went back to reception to see if there were other rooms. Thankfully there were and they booked us into the Yahoo room. Well, from opening the door our jaw dropped ...tacky Americian cowboy it was! Our bed was a wagon complete with 4 large wheels and a seat that bounced ....all we were missing was the horses. There was a lamp which looked like it was made of melted guns and our coffee table was a huge bellows! The wallpaper & curtains was the same pattern, but inverted. (click Helpful if you notice) The bathroom was a kaleidoscope of rock, birds for taps and butterflys - you will see ;-) The kitch didnt stop in our room ...the steakhouse would make Barbara Cartland look like she lived in a white & minimalistic loft!! There wasn't many veggie/chicken options so we ate in the neighbouring bar. It is not cheap. We stayed in the Bellagio LV & Westin St Francis SF on the same trip & paid considerably more for Madonna Inn, but it was totally worth it! We have stayed in many hotel, motel & hostel rooms around the world ...this is the MOST memorable experience by far! Oh yeah ...then there is the gents loos ...worth the visit, even if you dont need to go! « less
