Location is just about all this Hotel has going for it. The bedding is awful, expected the mattress springs to break out any minute, thin blankets and non existing pillows. Yes there is some "old world charm" in the decor however no excuse for the dirty carpet. The deadbolt on the door was broken. The bathroom toliet door has slats...might as well not be there. The courtyard had people partying all night very loud. Would not go to New Orleans if this was the only place to stay. « less

If you're wanting to be in the French Quarter, this is a great location. Just off Bourbon Street, but it's quiet and reasonably comfortable. Pros: good location, helpful staff, reasonable rates. Cons: the mattress slid us toward the center, the rooms were somewhat dated, and the room temperature varied a lot and didn't seem responsive to the thermostat. While were were there, we got a call from the front desk saying we had a "do not disturb" sign on our door, but they wanted to come in to replace the TV with a flat screen model. So it was nice to have an upgrade, but what part of "do not disturb" did they not understand? « less

We arrived at Hotel St Marie for the last weekend of Jazz Festival.
The hotel is located about 5 shops down from the corner of Bourbon Street and is accessible to everything the French Quarter offers. We spent a lot of time exploring which was very easy to do given the location. Even though it is so close to Bourbon Street, once inside the hotel you can't hear any noise from there. We spent time in the pool in the courtyard outside and you still could hardly hear anything.
The Lobby is really pretty, very old school French which I loved and the staff there were very nice and pleasant to deal with.
I had booked a double Queen room facing the courtyard which I would definitely recommend. We were travelling with our two kids (15 and 11) and found the room size to be comfortable for the four of us - the kids loved the rolled pillow to use as a barrier when they slept.
The bed was fine for me however it wasn't for my husband. We like to have space between us when we sleep and he found that he rolled towards me during the night. The pillows were comfortable however there was no quilt or doona which I wasn't a fan of as I like to have something other then a sheet/blanket covering me. I didn't ask for one so I am not sure if they supply them. I also found the air-conditioning quite cool at night and being from Australia I couldn't work out the controls. Again, I am sure that someone would have helped me if I asked but it didn't bother me enough to.
The balcony was a great choice and we used it regularly. We were in the room closest to the elevator and due to this our balcony was viewable from in front of the elevator. To combat this we just closed those curtains in the hallway when we were in the room. We didn't have an issue with any balcony noise - just the noise of the people coming home at 2am.
The room did have a noticeable musty smell which went away when we turned the air con on. Problem is after being on multiple planes the last thing my noise needed was more air con so we handled the musty smell while trying to air out the room with the balcony door open.
The doors to the bathroom/toilet were the worst thing about the room. They were shutters which while looks good, doesn't exactly make for private time after 20 hours of flying - if you know what I mean. We also bought air freshener because as you can imagine, shutter type doors let air flow between the toilet and the room.
Our room was serviced everyday however there were times when things weren't done - rubbish not taken, sticky counter tops not wiped down and empty glasses from the restaurant not taken. Nothing to call the desk about but something to note if you really need the bin emptied.
Overall, we would definitely stay at the Hotel St Marie again. It was reasonably priced given it was Jazz Festival and the location is fantastic. It's not like you spent much time in your hotel anyway when you stay in New Orleans isn't it? « less

This hotel is only feet from the heart of the French Quarter and Bourbon St, but you'd never know it when you're sleeping soundly (or passed out) in the quiet rooms. It's in Louisiana, so it's humid in the rooms, and the furnishings are antiques and antique replicas. So, haters gonna hate, but the hotel's webpage adequately describes what you're in for. « less

Our favorite hotel was not available for this trip so we choose the St. Marie as it was across the street. Having read other Trip Advisor reviews on this property I contacted the hotel via e-mail prior to our arrival and requested a quitter, remodeled room for our stay. They responded, “All rooms have been updated within the last 2 years”. Upon check in I found this to be incorrect as the 1st room we were given was very tired looking with large stains on the carpet and an old TV. My wife spoke with Jenn at the front desk who was very pleasant and helpful during our stay and she switched us the room next door. This room did look to have had the bathroom recently remodeled and had a flat screen TV but still had a slight musty smell and a window curtain that was in need of repair. Overall we had a positive experience except for finding a small cockroach in the bathroom early one morning. I went down and brought this to the attention of the night desk clerk who told me “this is a very old building and cockroaches are everywhere in the quarter”. Personally I have not seen any bugs in the other French quarter hotel rooms I have stayed in on previous visits. « less

Testimonials: Why use Hotel Planner?
"I am SO IMPRESSED with your service! I'm just getting started planning our conference for next year. What a gift to find a site through which I can screen multiple bids, without contacting multiple hotels individually. Plus I would never have thought to contact many that we are getting bids from! And all the booking can be done through your site? And you'll help with every possible need? What a God-send!" J.M. - Dallas, TX
"My middle school band and I have been extremely pleased with the service we received from your company. I had many choices for hotels very quickly and the hotels I considered were all excellent. Even after I selected our hotel, your agents stayed in contact with me periodically and even arranged a free upgrade of my room to a suite! What a nice surprise! I plan to book my next trip through them and would highly recommend them to my friends for their group travel plans. Thanks for a great experience." C.C. - Grove Hill, AL
