This is a typical Marriott: comfortable, safe, reliable. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. The decor is warm and soothing. The lobby offers computers/printers and has lots of comfortable seats/tables. There is a Starbucks that serves hot meals as well as the other coffee drinks. The area is very safe and is within walking distance to a BART station. It's on the edge of Chinatown with many authentic restaurants. We chose to use valet parking, which is free, and our car was fine when we got it back. We also got it back within a few minutes of asking for it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. My only complaint: I could hear the guests in the room above me. That's very strange for a Marriott and I don't think I have every experienced that with their hotels. If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room on the top floor. « less

A 2 night stay in a recently refurbished Marriott. I was here for my daughter's UC Berkeley graduation. The hotel is right in Downtown Oakland and only about a 20 minute drive on surface streets to UC Berkeley. The hotel is very modernized and my room was great. Huge bed but a small bathroom the only down side. This may be due to the location on a corner on the 5th floor. The room was very clean. I didn't eat in the hotel and the bar was a little pricey for drinks. Highky recommend a short walk to the nearby Cambodian restaurant Battambang. I chose to valet park my car for $33 a night instead of the $20 self park. The extension number I was given to call ahead for my car was unanswered on the Saturday morning so I just went to the valet to collect it instead. I didn't try the number on the Sunday. I had a deal for $128 a night plus tax which was very good value. Berkekey hotels were all about double that or more for the Graduation weekend. I would stay here again. « less

Hotel was really great. Perfect location for my job interview. Right in downtown, close to wonderful restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Room was well appointed and the bed was very comfortable. Liked the concierge lounge on 19th floor for breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Possibly a bit on the pricey side? I also hate paying extra for WiFi but it was pretty standard. Definitely recommended! « less

This was my second stay at the Marriott in downtown Oakland. This hotel is in the dead center of the city, very convenient to nearby office buildings and steps away from the BART station. The staff are very professional and attentive, the rooms are very nicely appointed, reasonably spacious and very clean, beds and pillows are comfortable, and the room service food is very good. Finally, I found the room to be very quiet, hearing only the faint murmur of a neighboring TV set in the morning. Highly recommended if you wish to stay in downtown Oakland. « less
