I got fed-up trying to make Manhattan hotel reservations, after two days of emails and web-searching and finding that the week I was planning to go there the rates were increased everywhere... I finally defaulted to the simplicity and risk of blind-bidding. I bid $205 for 5 nights at a hotel within the Chelsea boundary, and was saddened to end up with The Holiday Inn as it has never been a brand to my liking. Turns out that the hotel was ideal for my needs. The location was perfect, centered between Chelsea, Midtown, and Greenwich Village... right close to 23rd St and the subways... and very close to Whole Foods, Starbucks, Chipotle, and TD Bank. The staff was always friendly and professional, a real pleasure. The room was the average NYC size, but it was new and it was absolutely clean... and the bed was very very comfortable. There was always plenty of towels. And from the 18th floor I actually had a view of the Empire State Building (instead of the usual NYC view of a brick-wall). For me, one of the pure pleasures was FREE WiFi... it pisses me off to pay for WiFi at hotels, so this small bonus made for a genuine pleasurable stay. The hotel provided secure luggage checking while waiting for check-in and also after check-out. Like I mentioned, The Holiday Inn has never been my brand... but I would definitely stay at this property again (!) I did not have a single complaint or problem. « less

The location is great. Just a few blocks from the Empire State and main attractions. The staff is also very helpful. The problem is the rooms itself. Double bed room does not allow two person to walk inside the room at the same time. There is no space fot two piece of luggage. The bathroom is also very small and does not give enough relief in terms of size and noise-proofness. Definitely not for people who spend time at the room. « less

I work for FEMA every year i get to choose where am I going to stay... I should be platinum by now... I found out it dosen't matter my points at all with these fellaws... When I want it to check out. 04/28/13 I let Nicole from Front Desk know 1 day in advance... To avoid misunderstandings... She didn't do anything at all... Althou she smiled and she said "ok, no problems... You are good to go" Next Morning, 04/29/13 The Front Desk at 6AM Charged me $100.00 fee for late check out because Nicole simply didnt do her work... I called the "Manager" explain, i got another "no problem, well send you the right bill to your email" I am still waiting for that email a whole week later.., oh and I did call several times but I hang up Upset after being waiting everytime 1/2 hr to be transfered.... This is just the worst of the worst... AVOID EVERYHOLIDAY INN PERIOD.... Juan P Gonzalez jpgonzalez09@hotmail.com « less

Hi JuanSanJuan - I am very sorry to hear about your bad experience with us. While our front desk agent at night did not make the change to your departure date, I know that the charge was adjusted off the next day by one of our front desk supervisors. Please check your personal email account, as I just sent you an email. Thank you!

The hotel is a pleasant stroll from Penn station. Great location on West 26th, between 6th and 7th avenues. Banks, restaurants, pharmacies, subway stations, etc., are all within a two block radius. There is essentially no lobby, the two elevators are minuscule and full of people at the obvious hours, so plan ahead because you are unlikely to catch a ride on the first or second elevator stopping at your floor.
The room was tiny, with barely enough space to get around the two (smaller than double) beds. The bathroom was tinier still, and the exhaust fan was so loud I couldn't hear myself think. On the plus side, the bedroom window opened! And during happy hour the wine and appetizers are very inexpensive by NYC standards. « less

Hotels in NYC are, in general, very expensive -- and what you get for that price is usually not very much at all. This is a good exception.
This is a nice Mid-town hotel in a central location. The hotel itself is designed and decorated in typical Holiday Inn fashion. Meaning, it was welcoming, clean and comfortable. Rooms are small, but sufficient. I had a King room with city view, which was nice - and surprisingly quiet. Bed was comfortable, work desk was adequate, flat screen TV was nice. Bathroom was tiny, but sufficient and clean. Bath and Body Works toiletries are always nice. This hotel has free WiFi, which is a nice bonus. The lobby was tiny and the elevators are a bit slow, but that's NYC, so nothing unusual. Staff was friendly and helpful. I believe there was a restaurant for some meal options, but didn't try it. I'm also not sure how close it is to the subway, as I walked to the location of my business meeting.
All in all, this is a nice Midtown hotel, so I will try to stay here again the next time I'm in town for work or leisure. « less
