#1: The Knicks
The Knicks have been playing games at The Garden for as long as they have been a team, and they currently play 41 games every season there. Spike Lee is a regular at courtside during Knicks games, and the team garners good attendance from generational fans who have been around the team since their grandparents became fans. The Knicks last won the NBA title in 1973, and that banner still hangs in the building to this day.
#2: The Rangers
The New York Rangers are one of the original six teams in the NHL, and they have played nearly all their games at Madison Square Garden. The Garden is unique in that it hosts more than one iconic team in more than one sport. The Rangers have always been among hockey's elite, and The Garden saw the Rangers break the curse in 1994 when they won their first Stanley Cup in 50 years.
Madison Square Garden has played host to many historic fights that you may remember. Both Ali/Fraizer fights were contested in the building including the famous call declaring "down goes Frazier." Joe Louis came out of retirement to fight Rocky Marciano only to be knocked out, and Bernard Hopkins destroyed Felix Trinidad, and Lennox Lewis fought Evander Holyfield for the heavyweight championship of the world in this beautiful arena. The halls of Madison Square Garden echo the history of boxers who have come through its doors.
#4: The Allure Of The Building Madison Square Garden is a place where special things tend to happen. There have been numerous great finishes in the building, and the college basketball tournaments the building hosts alone make the plot for a wonderful film. The Big East Basketball Tournament and NCAA Tournament have shown that Madison Square Garden is one of the most unique places to hold a sporting event. The players seem to come alive in this place. The Rangers ended their curse in The Garden, and the Knicks won their last championship in this building. Madison Square Garden is a place every sports fan should visit once, and there are many sporting events to choose from. The enjoyment of sports increases when you pass through the turnstiles.
