We stayed at this hotel in November 2012. Hotel building is not new but clean and central. It is very close to Nevsky Prospekt and next to metro station. Stuff are suave and kind. There is a shopping center next to hotel and a good patisserie under the building. You can go by walking to all central historical places like Hermitahe Museum, Summer Garden, Voskresenia Khristova Church and more. « less

This hotel is a wise choice for anyone intending to stay in SPb. It has a very good location, right next to the metro station, it stands only some 400 meters from the Nevsky prospect, there is a shopping mall in the same building and magnificent Vladimirsky cathedral just across the road. Room was quite comfortable but nothing special. Breakfast was very good with quite a large selection of meals.
However, check-in procedure was enormously long, some 25 minutes. I stayed in this hotel twice and every time staff at the reception was not friendly, although not rude. WiFi internet is complimentary in the hotel, but its signal strength varies considerably throughout the building, for me for example it was not possible to use internet in my room.
In general however Dostoevsky has a very good price/quality ratio. « less

For the location and the price, you just cannot get better in Saint Petersbourg
So of course you have to accept some downsides. I only had one, the breakfast which would need more effort.
Room is good with all you need (it's not a 5 stars hotel), and big, bathroom is also very good. It is really clean despite the quite old furniture but it is more than ok (again, not a luxury hotel).
During winter don't forget to open the window sometimes as you cannot control the heat (it's a sauna like every indoor places in Russia) The view from my window was the roof of some houses so it was very quiet.
Location is excellent : some 5 minutes to the Nevsky, from there you can access all the sights by feet. Beautiful orthodox church in front of the hotel, and the house of Dostoievsky as well as an indoor old style market 2 minutes away.
If you want a good hotel for a good sleep, in a great location, don't hesitate. If you want a luxury hotel, just don't go there and stop complaning. « less
