I attended a work conference at the Grand Hyatt in May 2013 for 3 days and the hotel hosted a group of probably 500 people. Everyone was very attentive and the room was perfect. We used several rooms in the basement for our event (meals and meeting space) and I found it to be a great set up. We did not do a lot of walking but did find amenities to be close by the hotel. The location was convenient to the train station as well as Capitol Hill where we had meetings scheduled. I would use this hotel again for a personal trip. « less

Our family stayed at the Grand Hyatt, DC over the weekend and I was blown away by the quality and consistency of the service, by the level of customer focus and by the incredible friendliness of the staff. Every single staff member was friendly, customer focused and was committed to ensuring we were having a great stay. This caliber of service was better than Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton hotels where I have stayed, because there was nothing forced or stuffy about the service. This level of service is really hard to pull off in a hotel like the DC Grand Hyatt (large, not super fancy, convention / wedding / tourist type hotel). Very impressive.
The rooms are standard upscale-ish hotel rooms, recently renovated, very well thought out and extremely comfortable. « less

I stayed in Grand Hyatt in Washington D.C., for Teachers Conference organized by US State department. It was mainly business trip. The hotel hosted our big group (more than 300 teachers) at one. As a group we loved our stay there during 4 days. The lobby is beautifully designed and decorated, esp in the Christmas mood. It has very big restaurant to serve all 300 people at one for lunch and dinners. Besides, Grand Hyatt is very good place for holding official events, like conferences. We used about 10 or so meeting rooms for the sessions. All meeting rooms are well furnished and technically equipped. The I liked the service by business center, it made my work much easy. The rooms and suites are furnished beautifully, it has all facilities for your needs. As a group we enjoyed the service we were given. Moreover, the hotel has very good neighborhood to walk and discover Washington DC. You can walk to China town, many museums, movie theater and galleries starting your way right from the hotel. « less

Yes, once again I traveled to Washington DC for a 1/2 marathon and since I hadn't been there for years, it was good to get reacquainted with this historic city...We traveled from the West Coast to Dulles instead of Washington National. Tried a new car service called Uber to get into a city which matches a towncar to your final destination. No haggling about price and the tip is included and automatically billed to your credit card (for me easy and no brainer). If you want more info, look on their website, they'll give you all the details.
Grand Hyatt is pretty Grand. It was large. I saw it as convention ready with lots of rooms, adequate ballrooms and the favorite Starbucks, deli, and restaurants without leaving the property. The rooms are typical for a hotel. Comfortable, clean room, flat screen TV and fridge. My only slight complaint is that when doors shut in the hallways, it's loud. My only real complaint. The other slight one I had was that there were no vents in the bathroom, so you needed to keep the door ajar if you were taking a shower... which is fine if you are alone.
The restaurant/wine bar in the hotel was great. We went a variety of times, lunch, tea time and dinner. All were done very nicely. May not be for everyone as they were small plates, but perfect for us. If you wanted something heartier, there was the sports bar downstairs and a sitdown hotel lunch area where you could order typical sandwiches and salads in a open atrium. For breakfast there was a Starbucks for that morning jolt that we all needed.
The coolest thing about this hotel is that you can reach the metro from underneath the hotel. So people I knew that flew into National hopped right on the metro and it deposited them underneath the hotel. OK, we decided that metro was the way to go in this city...do as the Romans do. So we stood in front of the ticket kiosk and tried to read the multiple ways of buying a ticket. It was so confusing. A nice young man finally explained everything to us and we bought a metro card and we were on our way. In this day and age, I'm not good with paper maps anymore...so we found many apps that you can download to your phone that helps you navigate a city's public transportation. Another good way to get anywhere was called the Circular which is part of Metro and you can take it to different parts of the city and it just circles certain areas. Some of them intersect so that you can hop on to different areas of the city.
So you go to DC for the attractions and if you walk a few blocks away from the hotel, you can get on the (what I called) the red bus. Which is a get on/get off bus. The bus hits a lot of the major attractions and you can get on or off whenever you like to sightsee and take in the sights. Most have a tour guide that will give you audio tips as you travel through the route.
Overall good experience, close to the start of the race, close to the heart of the city. « less

The Grand Hyatt in Washington D.C. is beautiful. We stayed at the "club level" and so had access to free continental breakfast, as well as free snacks in the afternoon and evening. Since the club was under renovation, whenever the ground floor "club room" was too full, they would let us use the regular restaurant space and obtain our breakfast from the buffet at no charge. The food was delicious and there was a great variety. The room was quite comfortable, with a nice size bathroom and huge tv. The pool is very small and not quite up to our expectations based on the rest of the hotel. Access to the fitness area is strange, too - you sort of have to go into the lobby area and through part of the metro lobby to get to it, which is bizarre when you're in a swimsuit. Our room was on the top floor and we sometimes had to wait a few minutes for an elevator, but it wasn't a big inconvenience most of the time. A major advantage to this hotel is that the metro station is attached to the hotel. We drove in on Sunday, parked in the hotel garage, and didn't move our car again until Friday. Of course you pay for the parking, but using the metro and not trying to find street parking saves you a lot of time. They also had free kids' movies each night but we never took advantage of this option because the start time didn't work out with our dinner plans. « less
