The Residence Inn - Manhattan Beach is undergoing a makeover. I recently stayed in one of their loft style apartments. I was excited to see new stainless steel appliances and updated living room furniture.
They are also redoing the pool area, and I noticed a fire pit being installed. I can't wit to come back next month and see the final product.
I always enjoy my time spent at the Residence Inn, the staff are always friendly and will go out of their way to help you. « less

Despite the hotel's gatehouse being under construction, we had a great stay! The hotel's staff was outstanding - friendly and accommodating. Although I already knew they were undergoing renovation, they emailed me just to tell me about the alternative arrangements they made. Breakfast was still available and they offered shuttle service to the nearby Marriott for the pool. There was a spa available, although we couldn't figure out how to turn on the jets.
We had a two bedroom penthouse suite which was comfortable and pleasant and had a full kitchen and two bathrooms. We faced the neighborhood and found it to be very quiet. The beds were comfortable and overall, the room was excellent. We used the kitchen several times and enjoyed having that feature. We enjoyed the breakfasts.
The hotel staff made sure to attend to our needs and requests. They had a sewing kit we needed. When we went to the beach (a short mile away), the not only gave us towels, but offered us the free use of beach chairs! The beach itself is great.
We rented the hotel's bicycles and helmets and had a great ride. They are "cruiser" bikes, easy to use (even if it's been a while since you've ridden) and in good shape. They even had baskets and locks. While it's a kind of hilly ride to get to the beach, the bike trail on the beach is very flat and runs south to Hermosa Beach and north to Santa Monica.
While the hotel is on a very busy street, it wasn't noisy in the rooms. There is a Target within walking distance and grocery stores and many businesses close by. I ran every day and there is a lovely walking/running trail/bike path a short distance away (~3/4 mile). By crossing the street (HWY 1) on 18th and then and going north up Oak (or Elm), you hit the Veteran's Memorial park with its trail. It's just over a mile down the trail to the beach and the trail has water fountains along the way. The bike trail runs alongside. It's about 2 miles to Manhattan beach taking this route. The trail continues on another 2.5 miles into Hermosa Beach. You also can go directly to the beach by heading directly west of the hotel and it's only a mile that way.
Manhattan Beach is very nice and the town is fun. Lots of shops to visit, but parking is difficult on the weekend. Parking is $1.25/hour and you need coins for most meters. « less

The front desk and pool area was under renovation during our stay, so the front desk was located in some converted rooms. I felt the management dealt well with this necessary problem -- there was a marquee set up outside to accommodate the included breakfast which was better than some hotels' normal facilities!
The room itself was roomy, nice to have a kitchen even though we didn't use it much apart from the fridge. The TV even had an electronic program guide on channel 1 instead of those terrible hotel TV commercials!
I used the secondary hot tub, since the one in the pool area was out of action, which is located between some of the hotel buildings (by building 15 IIRC). I was happy!
One downside, and this isn't the hotel's fault, is that its neighbor is a large Toyota dealership. At one point, an over-inflated car tire blew which sounded like a cannon going off. Another time car alarms were going off. Our view was right into the dealership, so customers on the other side of the complex probably wouldn't be bothered by this.
Make sure you take change/quarters for the parking meters in Manhattan Beach! Would recommend to others :) « less

I stayed at the Res Inn in Manhattan while on an extended work assignment. From day 1 I was treated as a guest. Most hotels refer to the customers as "guests" but this was the first time that I had the experience with the title. Ron the manager is just an incredibly fun, dedicated and engaging man. He breaks out the Karoke equipment for the evening light meals and also man's the grill on the BBQ nights. The entire staff has the same approach. It is simply nice accomodations with nice people. A great combination. « less

I recently stayed in a 2 bedroom unit and I was very pleased with the room! the kitchen was small and had everything we needed for our short stay. there were 3 large flat screen tv's and the 2nd room was a very cool upper loft area with my own bathroom. What a wonderful thing to hear, Seanola! We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. It’s great to hear reviews from our happy guests. We are very happy that you were able to experience our outstanding staff, our fun evening hospitality hour, and our hot delicious buffet breakfast. It's also good to hear our renovations had minimal impact on your stay. It's scheduled completion is late May, early June so we hope you return soon to experience our brand new breakfast and social hour area - our Gatehouse! We look forward to serving you again.
Yours in hospitality Kimberly Reyes
