This hotel was average - the location is stunning as are the views, but the hotel is looking tired and the owners should start investing some of their profits on bringing it up to date. Air conditioning very poor and very noisy - on the balcony below was an empty McDonald's drinks container which was stuck on the blind together with an ashtray which wasn't empty. It looks tired from the outside and tired on the inside. Staff very helpful and the beds where very comfortable. Breakfast was a crazy price « less

Our stay in this hotel was ok, the room was nice and the view to the see was beautiful, but the standard of the hotel was no more than 3 stars. First, we got no luggage service to the Room. The big breakfast is too expensive and at the little breakfast at 10 o'clock, they didn't have some bread or croissants, only coffee. That's poor! For a coffee, we paid CHF 7.00. In the Fairmont Plaza Hotel, the Best in Town, you get one for only CHF 4.50, that's no good publicity for the Royal Plaza Hotel..... « less

I have stayed at this hotel quite a bit recently on business. It is, on the whole, pretty decent - rooms are clean, food is great and the staff are very nice too - plus it has a lovely location right on the lake. However, like a lot of things in Montreux, it hasn't had a face lift in a long time and looks stuck in the 1980's. Therefore, it gets marked down in my eyes, as I am a bit of a stickler for expensive hotels that don't update their decor! « less

It is more of a business hotel. My expectation of a five star hotel would be to experience superb service. No one offered to help me with my luggage, had to bring it myself.
Food is though more than good. Love that there is always water and fresh orange juice at the lobby.
Like it that they can call a taxi exactly on Swiss time. « less

I had a very nice stay in this hotel, but would never give it 5 stars for the standard. Renovation is a must, as quality is from some years ago, rooms are tidy but I was very suppriced that someone could give it 5 stars! 3 would be fair, especially that walls are thin and noise may be a problem. The same with breakfast, very poor choice. But there are some aspects that do deserve 5 stars, that is a lake view, localisation and most of all staff - very kind and helpfull!! You can feel very comfortable in this hotel and if you need nice and peacefull place to spend your time in Montreux, that could be your choice - if you dont mind overpaying for the standard ofcourse ;-) « less
