Most hotels around the area are adjacent to La Copa Inn, but lack certain functions for a single family. I needed a microwave and micro-fridge for my one night stay. All I had found were overpriced hotels WITHOUT those amenities, until I found this hotel. For the low price, I had it all. A working A/C, hot water, clean room, microwave, fridge, pool access until 9pm. There was free breakfast till 10 AM, but I wouldn't need to service that. The WI-FI connection was amazing! I didn't have any problems with it. The bed was old school hard springs - but it was within shelter so I didn't mind it for the night. We had extended cable, and the front desk had security cameras overlooking different sections of the hotel. I did feel safe, although I was afraid of the type of people I would come across in Harlingen on a Saturday night. But, all the disturbances I heard were girls giggling and kids playing outside. Overall, I had a good experience. It was different than I am used to staying in, but I will admit, it was a great choice to what I could have wasted money on at another hotel. « less

I got there late on a Friday without a reservation, and booked a suite (for only an extra $4) without any hassle, the booking and billing took less than 2 minutes (much different from any other hotel).
The suite is a living room with a couch and coffee table, small dining table, and large flat-panel TV on the wall with a dresser under it. A doorway (with no door) goes to the bedroom that has a king-size bed, a CRT TV, two night stands, and an armoire.
The bathroom, although a little small, was clean. In fact, the whole suite was very clean. The only drawback was an airconditioner issue in the bedroom. Both rooms have A/C, but the one in the bedroom could not be run more than 1 minute without it shutting down and resting for 2 minutes, so it took a while to cool the room (kind of a pain in RGV). Easy checkout, and we didn't have to leave until 12 noon (very convinient).
I had to leave town but I came back the next day.
The second night I was there I got a regular room. They gave me a "non-smoking" room (as requested) but the room was a former "smoking" room, so the smell of stale tobbacco was very much present. The regular room was good, had a king-size bed, a small dining table, a dresser and a CRT TV. This room did not have a hair dryer.
There was a pool and jaccuzzi of decent size, and was also well kept, but I did not have time to swim. The breakfast, I have to admit, was dissappointing. But at least La Copa is in a great location., within walking distance of Chili's, Pizza Hut, Golden Corral, WingStop, Whataburger, Buffalo Wild Wings, and the movie theater. If you don't mind walking a little extra you can also walk to Applebees, Jack in the Box,HEB, Wal-Mart, Olive Garden, and the mall.
I really liked this hotel. The price was perfect, and once you get there, you don't need to drive anymore! Everything you need is right there. I'm sure I'll be staying there again. « less

We arrived in Harlingen late in the afternoon...without reservations for the evening. We stopped there and were given a first floor suite-one room with sofa, easy chair, table and two chairs plus TV, Micro and small refrig...and a second room that had a king bed. The "suite" was clean, the bed was comfortable and we were satisfied....plus we only paid $50.00! We have traveled all over the world and stayed in five star hotels all the way down to truly "starless!" This was Ok and very average. The breakfast in the morning was almost nothing, coffee, juice, cold cereal and toast....but it was clean and the staff was friendly. We would not hestitate to stay there again. « less

We were bumped to EconoLodge when Howard Johnson's made a mistake and over-booked. HoJo's manager promised us an "equal or better" accomodation and took us to the EconoLodge on W. Tyler in Harlingen. We got the room closest to the office.
The air conditioner stopped working just as we were going to bed. The night clerk came to give it a try and couldn't get it to start. He told us there were no other rooms available so we tried to get through the night on just the fan. Have you ever tried to sleep in a hotel room with no cross ventilation in the middle of the summer in the Texas Valley? To make matters worse, there was an animal stuck in the wall behind our bed and it made a pitiful sound all night.
By 4am we could stand it no longer. We were drenched in sweat and I was feeling nauseated. I asked my husband to try to do something with the A/C one last time. He did and it miraculously kicked on. We finally fell asleep around 5am, when the animal died and stopped making noises.
Two hours later the alarm went off and my husband went to the office. The clerk told my husband that the manager had told him to give us the suite if we complained again. My husband came back to the room and told me that and I nearly blew a sleep-deprived gasket. I went to the office and said, "You mean to tell me you DID have a room available and you let us bake all night, in the middle of the summer in Harlingen in a room with NO A/C?" I was furious. I left a note for this manager and told him I expected our money back.
We've received nothing. The room was terrible, three of the four lights were out at the vanity, the toilet wouldn't flush unless you held the handle down the whole time, the wall had a rodent in it and there was no A/C...and HoJo's called that "equal or better"?? If I can find the owner's name of both of those establishments, they are going to get an earful from me, I can tell you.
We apologize for any inconvenience the previous owners/management may have caused. This hotel has been through multiple ownerships in the last few years. The hotel is now called La Copa Inn - Harlingen, and we take pride in our service. We promise you if you were to come back and stay at our hotel you will see a great change from your last visit. Our main focus is to offer the best clean room for the best price in town. I would ask you to consider us on your next visit to Harlingen.
Thanks,
Jay
