We were there for the college graduation of one of our children and a Hilton Honors member. We have stayed at many very good hotels and condominiums in Chicago over the past four years. First and last time we will stay at this hotel. We were very disappointed in what you DO NOT get for $300 USD per night per room (plus hefty taxes). Outdated interior appeared clean enough but on the dark & dingy side. Rooms are not nearly as roomy as they appear on the internet. The internet photos do not accurately represent the rooms. We rented two rooms with two queen size beds & that's exactly what we got and not one thing more. The one chocolate cookie per guest that you get at check in is the last complimentary thing you will get other than a substantial bill at the end of your stay. Shower faucets in both our rooms were faulty - icy cold or scalding hot regardless of the setting you choose. This was pretty distressing for our ninety year old grandmother with limited vision. A display of snacks and bottled water are strategically placed for you to see instantly when you enter the room. If any item is picked up for more than 20 seconds, a sensor notifies the management and you are charged for that item, whether you consume it or not. If you want to put your healthy yogurt for breakfast or dinner leftovers in the fridge, the sensor tips off the hotel that you opened the door and you will be charged a substantial fee. If you are diabetic or have restrictive dietary needs due to food allergies, this is a very inconvenient and costly. Does Doubletree not realize that other similar hotels in Chicago with better rooms are proud to give you a mini fridge and a microwave at no charge? Some also give you a decent hot breakfast and unlimited fresh fruit, coffee, herbal teas & a quiet lounge area to meet up with your friends and family. I called the hotel at about 10pm on a Friday night to ask for assistance. We were stranded in an area of Chicago about 15 minutes from the hotel with no taxis in sight after visiting an art gallery where our daughter's artwork was on display. They promptly routed me to the bellman who said he could send someone for $150. We don't mind paying a fare fee for a hotel shuttle, but that was outrageous. We walked a few blocks with our grandmother in tow until we found a taxi that charged less than $10 while the younger people in our group found a bus for under $3.00. So much for hotel customer service or assistance. The rooms were decorated very nicely and the bed, couch and chairs all very comfortable. I had a corner room on the 6th floor that didn't have much of a view, but the room was nice. The shower pressure in the shower was one of the best that I've had for a hotel. The location is great and if you have friends in the city, there is metered parking in the front that always had space available. The Wit is my favorite Hilton Hotel in the City.
