My wife and I booked a 7-day cruise out of Tampa at the end of our 1-week visit to Florida's Gulf Coast. We booked a room in this motel based on it's proximity to the cruise terminal. I must say I am more than pleased about the gracious hospitality offered by this motel. We arrived early with oodles of luggage. No problem - they checked it for us for free, gave us a map of Ybor and directions to a nice outdoor restaurant (Tampa Bay Brewing Company). After a lengthy lunch (see separate review) and a walking tour of Ybor (Little Cuba) we returned to the motel to check in to our room. The room was spacious, comfortable, quite and well decorated.The bed was firm and very comfortable. Although we didn't check them out the hotel has a bar, a pool and a patio. The following morning we had an early breakfast, walked the streets of Ybor again and then departed for the cruise terminal. GREAT PERK - The motel provided free courtesy busing directly to terminal. ADDED PERK - Upon returning to the terminal at 8 AM, 1 week later we had a lot of time to kill until our 6:30 PM flight. They hotel shuttle graciously picked us up at the cruise terminal (at no charge); took us back to the motel and checked our bags for the day - even though we weren't guests. We spent the day roaming the city and enjoy our freedom without toting a bunch of baggage. I couldn't be more pleased. This is a great motel. If you happen to be cruising out of Tampa, you won't go wrong booking a room here! « less

I used the complimentary shuttle to drop me off at my business meeting location. The check in process was smooth, staff friendly.
The lobby has high ceilings, plenty of natural light, and a bright open feeling. One small bar to one side and sitting area to the other. The rooms had modern décor. All worked well. Complimentary cookies in the afternoon!
I like HGI because the offer a full drip coffee pot and also a fridge. Unfortunately my fridge was a little bit too loud, even when I turned it off. I eventually dosed off, but if you are a light sleeper keep this in mind.
Beds were super comfortable, bathroom was clean and all was functional.
Overall I found great value in my stay, a well appointed hotel with friendly staff, and can’t beat the location in the middle of Ybor, walking distance to all kind of restaurant and bars that have a vibrant scene. Rooms are modern, new carpet and décor, I will return. « less

The location is very good. You can easily walk to the heart of Ybor City and the trolley station. The trolley was very convenient; but doesn't run Sunday morning. When we asked the hotel staff for a taxi on Sunday morning, they offered us their free shuttle downtown.
The people working at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. They gave us great tips about the city.
We did have some hiccups when we arrived. The first room we were given had a horrible mildew odor and my husband's allergies went haywire. The hotel gladly gave us a new room, but the A/C didn't work in that room. The third room was fine. The hotel was helpful, but it was frustrating to move to 3 rooms at 9:30pm at night. « less
