The first point of contact with any hotel is reception, and the girls at the Victoria were friendly and helpful. The hotel felt instantly clean, fresh and airey. Our room was a bit on the small size but very clean and everything we needed was there, including a nice view over the park. The 2 windows provided a cooling breeze, on what was a rare hot sunny day! The hotel is ideally located for parks, wine bars and the Clifton suspension bridge area. Breakfast was excellent, a"breakfast" style dessert glass serving of yoghurt, fruit and granola was delicious, the wide choice included wonderful free range poached eggs with orange yolks, the real mccoy! Excellent staff, for whom nothing was too much trouble. We will definately re book this hotel for any trips back to this area. « less

Stayed at the hotel for one night on a Saturday. We thought it was good value for money. Room was on the lower ground floor ( room 206). The room was a good size, clean and comfortable. The staff on reception were very helpful. We didn't have breakfast as there are lots of cafes in Clifton. We will stay here again. « less

Hotel location good, staff polite, breakfast varied and of a decent quality. However like many hotels some spaces not suitable to be used as accommodation are.
Room 204 is in the basement with the bathroom lower still down 3 or 4 stairs. The window looks therefore mostly at retaining wall and unfortunately is very close to not just the road but also reception entrance meaning its very noisy till the early hours when traffic levels reduce and people get back from nights out.
Unfortunately at 4:45 a.m. the kitchen staff start work directly above room 204, and as its a kitchen space it had a hard floor and the staff of course wear hard soled shoes with every step being easily heard in 204.
Combined effect is that the time available for sleep is very small and a good nights sleep is surely a fundamental requirement of a hotel. After first night I asked to move rooms but unfortunately they were fully booked.
Room and bathroom fairly clean and very good supply of milk and tea / coffee unlike some places who really skimp on this.
Given the positives and also comments of others I wouldn't suggest you don't stay here, just that when booking you make absolutely certain you are not staying in room 204. Actually to be safe don't stay in any of the basement rooms which I think run from 201 to 206. « less

Thank you for your review. I am very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay in room 204. This room is particularly unfortunate with its view. Our Lower ground floor rooms at the back of the building have better outlooks as the ground level drops (in the lodge they overlook a small garden). I do hope that you enjoyed the other aspects of your stay and that you shall choose us again. If you do please call us directly on 01179 739058 so that we can allocated you a room on the higher floor. Thank you for choosing the BEST WESTERN Victoria Square Hotel. Kind regards, Michael Hamilton Hotel Manager

Due to transport delays arrived very late after midnight in fact, however were given a warm welcome by the night porter and shown to our room. Clean bright and quiet, we the shower was a fiddle but adequate, plenty of towels and a pleasant view over the square. enjoyed breakfast which was a hot buffet/fruit cereal affair which more than filed us up for the day ahead. we were given clear instructions on the toaster and set off no alarms!, the breakfast staff were very helpful. The hotel is located in a very nice part of Bristol called Clifton, my first visit and would say the area has a feel of both Bath and Jesmond Necastle upon Tyne lots of coffee shops and interesting stalls/shops. would stay here again hopefully for more than one night. « less

The hotel is characterful, clean & comfortable. The staff are friendly & helpful. The original room we were given was a little on the small side but when we asked for a bigger one we were given one at no extra cost. The location is great, right in the heart of Clifton and overlooking the green (& quiet) Victoria Square. Breakfast was too early for us. This wasn't a problem as there are lots of really nice cafes in Clifton village, which is about 2 minutes walk away. We will stay here on our next visit to Bristol. « less

Thank you for your review I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay. I am so pleased that you were happy with the second room we offered you, thank you for letting us know so that we could move you! We are very lucky with the views the rooms at the front have of the square (particularly from the top floor of the lodge) and am so pleased you enjoyed this. From next week we are going to be extending our weekend breakfast time to 8am – 10am. Later breakfasts seem to be a very regular request so we are listening and are changing this! Thank you so much for the feedback. I hope we shall see you again soon! Kind regards, Michael Hamilton Hotel Manager
