There is a lot to like about this hotel even if it could use some modernizing. Most people stay here for the upper floor views across San Francisco Bay to see the amazing sunsets and the Golden Gate Bridge. I stay here when I am working in Oakland and East Bay because freeway access is easy and I love being around boats and marinas. The hotel is probably a good option when the hotels in SF are booked or too expensive. The room rate here is very reasonable. The ground floor rooms on the marina side have sliding doors that open to a lawn area and the marina beyond. In the evening as the sun is going down, there is a calmness outside around the marina that is very relaxing. There are running and walking trails that start outside the door. The front desk staff have always been friendly and helpful. There is a nice upscale restaurant here with a good variety of entrees and an above average wine list. The hotel can use some comprehensive updating but is very well maintained. The housekeeping staff are very friendly and helpful. I stay mostly at Marriotts these days, but I like this hotel so much that I choose it over the local Marriott brand hotels. I recommend this place. « less

I've stayed here periodically over many years... way back when it was once a Marriott, then it became a Radisson for awhile, and now a Doubletree. As with most Doubletree properties which Hilton has relegated to "second-rate" status, this is similar. It's a property that could use a lot of "sprucing up." I'm afraid everything but the view of the marina is just a little bit more than a little "dingy." Carpet's old, ceiling had some falling plaster areas, hallways are dark, and the elevator is tiny. There was a restaurant on the property the last time I was here, but it looks like they've closed that up and now it's just a lounge-like area (probably available for private-party rental if you want). Boats. Lots of boats. And it's right there next to 'em on the water. University Ave headed into Berkeley is right there, so the location is convenient. However, I'd also recommend checking out the Emeryville hotels that are just one exit (maybe 2 miles) down the highway -- there's a Marriott Courtyard, a Hyatt House, a Hilton Garden Inn, and a Holiday Inn (maybe more, but those are the ones I know). « less

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. It was very well located to our needs. It has the most awesome views across the bay. The walks around this area is wonderful. Room was spacious and clean and had two lovely double beds. The back and front of the hotel have very nice views across the marina and the yachts. Breakfasts were great and a great variety. My husband enjoyed the pool facility. « less

Seriously. Wifi was $10 a day. Stay overnight and that is $20 more of your precious travel money. I had reserved a king room with a balcony. $200 got us a small ground floor room with 2 queens. I got a patio inhabited by a scaffold. Breakfast was another $20 per person. Great food, but I doubt we will ever stay there again. Every other hotel we have stayed at has free wifi. Get with the 21st century, Doubletree! « less

Very good Hotel by the BAY on the Eastside. A Place where you can see boats and relax plus be able to work as the Internet is very strong. I came to just relax and re-charge my batteries for a day with my special lady friend. I also needed to go to SFO to drop friend off so this location is very good to over the Bay Bridge and down to SFO. « less
