The hotel has a nice pool (closes at 11) and a decent fitness room (24 hours). The hotel rooms had updated HD flatscreen TVs. The rooms were spacious and quiet. A great place to stay if you need an affordable, quiet, and clean room. « less

I stayed at this wonderful hotel three times last year while on business in Michigan. The worst and the best events while travelling last year happened to me here. One evening the hotel was hosting a large crowd for an outside event. I had stepped out for dinner and by the time of my return, every parking space was filled. I decided to park in a "wide spot" in the parking lot - an unmarked corridor for passing vehicles. The next day I found a parking ticket on my windshield. Needless to say, I was unhappy, as were numerous guests who did the same thing I did. Getting a parking ticket from the City Police in a private parking lot is pretty bad! The management of the hotel took my ticket and, without any follow-up or calls to worry me, they took care of it. What a fantastic management decision! Thank you! « less

We (BGE) booked our stay at this hotel, from previous visits. Anything that the management thought was displeasing to our visit, was accommodated by an amenity of some kindl We, being used to our own beds, had little difficulty sleeping because of the firmness of the mattresses. At breakfast time (this visit), the waitress was acted a little nosy! These were the only complaints we had. From our arrival until our departure, we were satisfied with everything that was at our discretion from the amenities, staff & food. This was the third time we visited this establishment and unanimously agreed that the Detroit Marriott Southfield is the Hotel for us, when we travel to Michigan, as a group! « less

My husband and I purchased a "Living Social" romantic get-away deal at this site for the weekend. Coming from Ohio we were wondering if we made the right decision for our anniversary. But from the time we booked the weekend until the time we left the Marriott Southfield we were very glad we decided to go. Along with the great price for the room we were able to upgrade to the top floor (6th) for more privacy at no cost, at the most I believe it would have cost us $10 on a Saturday. It turns out that it was a great decision because there were 3 large parties and I mean parties on the lower floors that might have been fun to join had we not been on our anniversary get-away but we were not really thinking about joining them. Our king bed room was very nice with a comfortable bed and plush linens, a new large screen TV, clean, and decorated very nicely with historical pictures of early Southfield. It was a great touch. With our package came a food debit towards a dinner at their on-site restaurant "The Fire Iron Grill". We both enjoyed very fresh vegetables, salad and rolls with our Ribeye steaks. While the food was good, the service was exceptional. As a matter of fact everyone at this hotel literally bent over backwards to meet all of our needs. It reminded me of what we expect when we go to an exclusive resort...but many times do NOT get! These people at Southfield have been trained well! But we got the feeling that it wasn't just their training, Marriott did a very good job of hiring just really NICE people! While we ate, Elshawn at the front desk was busy calling clubs in the area to see what was happening for a "seasoned" couple. After opting out of the smokey casino crowd about 15 minutes away in downtown Detroit, we chose to have room service (Champaign & chocolate covered strawberries to die for!) and stay in for a quiet night. All in all we couldn't have chosen a better place to spend our 34th anniversary and look forward to returning again for another one! « less

I got stuck in a really really bad snowstorm on my way back from Detroit in January. I had to stop at this Marriott because I really couldn't make it home. The service here was so great. I work in hotels and I really appreciate the way the staff here took care of me. The guy working the front desk included breakfast in my rate for free and was very polite and helpful. The breakfast staff the next morning were so nice and the breakfast was really good. You could order basically anything and they had lots of fresh fruit, pastries, and juice. The rooms are a little bit out dated but for the price I paid it wasn't too bad. It's just an older building. They had bath and body works products in the bathrooms which I love and the shower was nice and hot. My room was really clean. Only thing I would request to upper management is get the beds replaced. « less
