I must preface this review so you can take this review for what it is. My personal and professional opinion. I "judge" hotels for a living. Which means I tend to be quite picky and really notice several items that most don't. Although I was visiting mostly for business, this portion of my stay was more for relaxing and fun.
Check in was a breeze, but don't expect anyone to offer to bring your luggage up. I am sure you could ask, but the hotel is fairly small and as long as you come in the true front, you won't have to carry your luggage too far to get to the front desk and then the hotel tower. If you have a car, you can park in the area near the hotel tower and there is a direct door that brings you right to the hotel part. There is a security guard there as well which keeps non-hotel guests out of the pool area and the room elevators. The door also locks at night and you can only get in with your hotel key.
My first stay I stayed in a standard room which is just fine. Nothing special, but I wasn't expecting that. The bed was decent, the room was clean, everything worked, all good. The second stay we were in a Jr. Suite. It was nice to have the extra room to just chill out, check email, read or whatever. I did find that there weren't a decent amount of outlets to plug in all of our devices, but we just unplugged a couple lamps and made it work.
A newer "thing" with hotels in the Las Vegas area is that they charge a resort fee. The fees range from 10 bucks to 30. Yes, they are ridiculous, but it's part of the industry so just accept that you are going to pay one and move on. In a lot of my inspections for work, I found that the internet is part of the resort fee. I was disappointed to find out that this is not the case at Sunset Station and they now charge for the internet. I think it was about $12 per day. This is within the last year, because last time it was free.
There is some great entertainment at the Sunset Station so you don't necessarily have to go to the strip every night to have fun. Also, the pool is really nice. It's on the smaller side, but for me, I spend most of the time enjoying the sun, and just dip in the water to cool off. I am not there to swim laps.
The staff in most areas is very nice, however the waitress in Club Madrid ignored us until I ran her down to ask if she wanted to take our top shelf booze order. She tended to us fairly well after that.
I haven't been to every restaurant but the buffet is good, the cafe is average and the Mexican restaurant is good in a pinch.
Oh, and don't forget that they have a movie theater and a bowling alley in the hotel, so fun for the whole family. Personally, this is one of the very few hotels I feel is better suited for families with children.
Lastly, if you are visiting Las Vegas to see the strip, and you don't have a vehicle, this may not be your best option. The strip is basically about 15-20 minutes away (longer in traffic of course), so cabs back and forth may get expensive. There is so much more to Las Vegas than the strip, so hopefully you have a rental car and a good travel agent to tell you where the good stuff is.
Of course, you can always book a great Vegas package through yours truly.

Stayed here for just one night but found it to be very good. Room was clean and large enough. Most hotels in Vegas have a resort fee and I hate them all but this one seems a real rip off. You have to pay extra for wifi internet which seemed to be over the top. I asked for my son, booking in later, to be placed in a room close to me and they said they would arrange that but he ended up 3 floors away. The hotel is very good but I did feel very ripped off and not sure I would stay there again. « less

Of course we are planners and booked in advanced. Being experienced travelers we were very specific to our needs. Upon arrival the staff had somehow mistaken our reservations and tried to give us smoking rooms with 1 bed. We were very specific of non smoking and 2 beds. They apparently have no control of their booking system and we had to book another room. We ended up finally getting 2 rooms non smoking. Upon our arrival to our room we noticed it had 2 beds. So not only do they have no control over their booking they are unaware of their inventory. The staff seems to be incompetant as even when notified of their mistake again it became our fault. Stay far away from this hotel and spend the money to stay somewhere nicer. « less

This is the first time that I have stayed off of the Strip. I enjoyed my stay in Henderson and found the Sunset Station to be a clean and comfortable stay. The room was large enough to not feel crowded and housekeeping made sure the room was kept clean and supplied with fresh towels.
The hotel/casino had many games to choose from with lots of penny slots. The buffet was a good deal with the players card discount and had plenty of food to choose from. If a buffet is not your style there were a couple of sit down restaurants (I did not try out) and some fast food options such as Subway and Fatburger.
Overall I had an enjoyable stay and will not hesitate to return for future trips. « less

What sucks are the rooms. They have the absolutely worst shower heads I have ever seen. No pressure, and takes forever to get hot water. The mattress is ok, but the pillows are ridiculous. They are about 2inches wide. Could not sleep at all. Bring your own! Also the doors to the rooms make a very loud slamming noise when they close. You will hear them all night long. « less
