I was at this Marriott for a business trip and stayed for 3 nights. The lobby is clean and has a Starbucks; the rooms are spacious; the beds are very comfortable. In fact I purchased a Marriott pillow after my stay here. There is also free wi-fi available (as they were testing a new installation) and there is a printer terminal on the ground floor so you can print your boarding pass before heading to the airport. « less

If you want a convenient downtown location, especially for the convention center, this hotel is ideal.
The hotel breakfast buffet, closing weekdays at 10 a.m., was very good, especially the in-season fruits. The omlette station was also delicious. The 2 hotel restaurant options, if you don't want to go out, were also very good, reasonable and with a friendly staff/bartenders.
Gerry (bellman), Sarah and Sean (front desk) and Louis (engineering) were friendly, professional and helpful - especially Louis, who turned our poor first impression for a 6-night stay into "acceptable."
Apparently the 384-room hotel is scheduled for remodeling; our second assigned room, 904, was quite adequate, clean and quiet. A major issue for travelers, however, is not having an in-room safe although there was a limited number of safety desposit boxes at the front desk, but they're too small for even a iPad.
My major disappointment and frustration with the hotel concerning our 6-night stay was initial contact with Mikaela (front desk) who told me at check in that the hotel was fully booked - no, I could not upgrade - but she would book us into 321, a handicapped room. I immediately told her that we did not need a handicapped room for 6 nights. This was, according to her, the ONLY room available. Interesting, though, that about 3 hours later - thanks to Louis, an astute, conscientious employee - we were transferred to 904 for 6 nights.
Why was 321 unsatisfactory for 2 able-bodied adults and cause for future guests to ask to see their rooms before registering?
1. To provide room for a wheelchair in 321, the upholstered chair and ottoman, which we had later in 904, were removed. Since we didn't have a wheelchair, we would have preferred the standard upholstered chair and ottoman so we could relax. We had, then, only the standard business chair for comfortable seating.
2. The bathroom electrical outlet in 321 was at the door, which was about 4' from the vanity countertop. I thought this distance would be a challenge when using my curling iron, brush, comb or hotel blow dryer. Therefore, I called the front desk and asked for a small table so I could put these items near the outlet at the bathroom door. Sarah at the front desk was helpful, but the solution, while creative, would be an inconvenience for 6 nights. (see photo)
3. Since we had been in Vancouver the previous 5 nights, I wanted to do some hand washing. However, there was NO sink stopper in 321 - not even a broken one. I had to resort to hand washing in the bathtub. I called the front desk; Sarah answered again. She sent Louis to 321; he was surprised to see me at the bathtub doing hand washing and apologetic. (see photo) Thankfully, because of his intervention and concern, we were moved to 904 for our 6-night stay.
904 was quiet and we had no major problems with the room during our stay, but I would urge people to ask the front desk if they could check their room before registering to avoid disappointment.
(I did speak with Marriott about 321 and the hotel has responded to my issues.) « less

I was visiting customer in the Calgary downtown for quite extensive period of time on the duration of 1,5 years. I had only two disappointments with this hotel - sometimes I didn't get a chance to have a room here because it was completely sold out (what is not surprising considering the level of service they offer), second greatest disappointment was the speed of Wi-Fi, which works differently depending on the room location. Other than these - great place to stay and recharge! « less

This was my first time staying at the Mariott and I enjoyed myself. I had booked the room through a 3rd party website so I was expecting a room on the lower floor overlooking the back alley garbage dumpster, lol. Boy, was I wrong. I had a nicely appointed room with a very comfy king size bed, facing the Hotel Le Germain. The room was spacious and the amenities were great! One thing I liked in particular was an extra wheeled nested table under the desk; this allowed me to wheel it right next to my bed when i could place my laptop on while I'm lounging on my bed - great feature!
One note, I feel I didn't get the best service when I was checking in. I'm assuming that when the front desk pulled up my booking she must have seen that I booked through a 3rd party discount website and gave me the minimal service for the discounted price I paid; she did away with the niceties and was very robotic. She must've said all but 10 words to me and I was checked in in about 3 minutes.
I did not try the pool or exercise room but i did went to take a look and they looked pretty adequate, but definitely clean and well taken care of. The lounge was great; I received great service from the bartender (sorry I forget his name) even though I showed up 30 minutes before closing and I wanted a couple drinks and a late night dinner. Kudos to the lounge and kitchen staff.
Only bad thing was parking. You have no choice but to use valet parking; luckily, it only costs $25 a day on weekends (I think it was $38 during the week). Also, I had to wait about 30 minutes before my car was ready for pick up. Also, when I picked up my car, the other cars also waiting to be picked up were really closely parked together, so maneuvering was a bit hard.
All in all, it was a great experience. I would definitely stay there again. « less
