Have stayed in this hotel 3 times since January. The first two times were great but the third, in April, was awful. I'm giving 3 stars based on the average of the three visits. Walked into our smoke-free room and my sensitive nose detected the last smoker left during the past 24 hours. Within 10 minutes of being in the room, we had a phone call from someone claiming to be from the front desk and they needed my birthdate to confirm the room. We went to the front desk to straighten things out and were told they had not called us. But they had put through a call to our room based only on the caller requesting a room number. The hotel scam is alive and well - watch out travelers. The breakfast was challenged by a large group of students and parents the next two mornings. The kids were polite and reserved. But the staff could not keep up with the demand. At least the kids didn't drink coffee. We frequently visit Charlotte because our daughter moved there. We will be trying another hotel next time. « less

I missed my connection on USAirways and the service they referred me to for a hotel, Travelliance, gave me this hotel as an option. I chose it because they offered 24 shuttle service and it was already after midnight. The hotel is a bit of a drive from CLT - about 20 minutes - which is probably why the shuttle took a while to arrive after I called for it.
The hotel itself was refurbished - you can see evidence that the building is older, but the paint, carpets and furnishings are fresh. The bed was on the hard side, but otherwise the room was very comfortable. I didn't immediately notice, but the non-smoking room I was in smelled of smoke after some time in the room. The grounds are very nice, wooded and pleasant.
Friendly staff. Multi-cup in-room coffee maker (yay!), fridge, microwave. Good, free internet access. I arrived at 2 AM, so I didn't experience many other aspects of the hotel. « less

I had stayed at this location a few years ago and was very satisfied at the time. When looking to book in the area recently, I was a little concerned given some of the recent reviews. But since I had experience with the hotel, I decided to give it a shot again. I am not sure where the awful reviews are coming from. Everything about the stay was just fine. Obviously, this is not the fanciest place in the whole city, but it is exactly what one should expect from Comfort Inn and a really good value.
The room was clean and decently roomy. Bed and pillows were comfortable, though the pillows are rather small (kinda like sleeping on a soft throw pillow). Bathroom was a good size, though I would prefer the sink/vanity being separate from the bathroom so that more than one person can get ready at once. The WiFi worked well. Breakfast was the standard waffle station, eggs and sausage, muffins, pastries, toast, and cereals. They were just finishing up with a remodel of the breakfast area during our stay. The first night, the whole area was still blocked off, but by the end of our stay, it was completely open and looking very fresh. The staff were friendly and even got us some plasticware when we brought dessert back to the room but had forgotten to get forks from the restaurant.
The location is nice. Our main purpose was a visit to Carowinds, which is just a few minutes away. While there are hotels closer, they tend to have either horrible reviews or really high rates. Also, staying a little closer in to the city is nice for going out to dinner or shopping. I am sure we will return the next time we are in the area. « less

We stayed at this hotel after a cancelled flight which led to a free voucher from the airline. The hotel was terrible. The front desk manager was nice enough but not overly competent- in fact he booked us in a room that was already occupied. Not ideal for us or the occupants- especially at two a.m. The hotel itself is disgusting. Gross brown stains on the bathroom walls and filthy stained comforters. The carpets were dirty and the rest of the place was just tired. In addition, a comment the desk clerk made a comment to a caller that indicated to all of us at check in that hourly room rentals are run of the mill. All in all a terrible experience and a gross dirty place with low standards of service and cleanliness. Next time I will skip the voucher and pay to stay somewhere decent. « less
