While traveling for business this week, I booked a room at the Renaissance. While it was a bit far from my meeting the next day, I booked this hotel because of its rating and amenities. I was extremely disappointed with my stay. Checked in at 8pm after a long day of meetings. Called room service to order dinner, to find out that the menu in my room was "old" and I couldn't order what I wanted. 20 minutes later, they sent me up a new menu to order from, but at this point it was too late to eat. Since I checked in late, and I knew check out was not until noon the next day, I planned to sleep in and check out at noon. So much for this plan. At 9:30 am, I had housekeeping knocking on my door to clean my room. Then again around 10:00 housekeeping knocked on my door, and even proceeded to enter my room while I was not dressed. Then again at 10:30 am, housekeeping knocked on my door, and not minutes later, a gentleman with a clipboard knocked on my door and asked me when I would be checking out. Why was I being rushed to check out, if check-out wasn't until noon. And between all the unwelcome knocks at my door, I had the lovely sounds of room construction below me. Needless to say, a very disappointing nights sleep and a rushed morning. I have never felt so unwelcome in a hotel, and felt so rushed to check out. « less

Thank you so much for staying with us at the Renaissance Westchester Hotel, and for taking the time to rate us on TripAdvisor. I want to personally apologize for the issue you encountered while with us! Many of our Guests leave early, and we normally look for a Do Not Disturb sign on the door so that we know when a Guest wishes to stay in the room until 12 Noon, but after the first time we knocked on your door we should have communicated to the rest of the team that you were relaxing and not to be bothered. I am grateful for your feedback so that I can help my housekeeping department learn and grow! I hope that you will try us again soon. Thank you again! Catherine

This was our third stay here and by far, the worst. Renovations are ongoing gut it appears that most of the work in public areas has been completed. New lobby and bar area is open, spacious and a nice improvement. The guest room renovation isn't the best. Furnishings have a 70's look and feel - fake dark wood laminate, and the bathroom now seems cramped with minimal counter space. A/C in our room worked very minimally, bathroom toilet area (particularly base and side by tub) was disgusting and shower curtain (an odd white eyelet fabric) was stained with what looked like makeup. Additionally, the bedding (bottom sheet) didn't fit the bed the bed and popped off throughout the night. We had asked in advance for extra pillows and towels (each of the two beds had only three very tiny lumpy pillows and we had only three towels for four people.) We never got them. Walls are paper thin and we could easily hear the goings on of a very rowdy family and their friends in the room next door who were up until the early morning hours. That same family had spent their entire Saturday afternoon and evening (until pool closing time) monopolizing the pool area, flinging balls over and around the heads of other pool guests, drinking and socializing with their friends. Pool attendant was worthless - never replenished towels or checked to make sure only guests were using the pool as had always been done on previous visits. Worse, he sat and played with his phone and ignored the poor behavior and complaints of other guests. This hotel had been our #1 choice in the White Plains/West Harrison area. Not so much anymore. Since our first visit, it seems to be on the decline with regard to room cleanliness and overall guest service. Of note: the pool is currently open weekends only according to a sign in the pool area. Not sure if this is a permanent change or due to renovation. « less

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide such a detailed and important review of the Renaissance Westchester. Your feedback is extremely important to me; we want you to have a wonderful experience, not to have all of these issues that distract you from what should be a very relaxing time. I am truly sorry that we did not provide you with a perfect stay!
I appreciate your kind words about the public areas, and also your notations about the new bar and restaurant. We are receiving a lot of compliments on the streamlined and bright guest room; I do appreciate and value that people's tastes do vary. In the bathroom we added a glass shelf next to the sink, and shelving under the wash basin for the extra space the guests need. I would really like to speak with you to address the other issues, so that I can be certain to correct them (such as the disappointing lifeguard service). Please contact me directly at your convenience at catherine.stevens2@renaissancehotels.com.
Thank you again for staying with us and for giving me an opportunity to make this right for you! Catherine Stevens

I agree with most of the comments of the previous reviewer Ron A. I arrived to enter a construction site in the parking lot/entrance/corridor I am staying in. This was NOT mentioned on their web site where they just say the lobby is being worked on. This is very poor. Awful first impressions. Room was bare -- even lacked a garbage bin, clock radio etc Renovated room is not very impressive -- large empty space in one corner which makes you think they are expecting more furniture. Carpet felt cheap. Sprawling hotel with accommodation along two long corridors. Do not stay here if you do not like walking/cannot. My room did look out upon a lovely forest which was about the only thing that made me stay otherwise, I would have left. Front desk staff were not very impressive/well informed. They did say they would credit my Marriott point account with some points to compensate for the inconvenience but I would much rather have stayed in a nice hotel than this place. Really very sad that they are so desperate for revenue that that let rooms in this state with construction debris laying in the corridor. WORST Renaissance I have ever stayed in as they are usually lovely. « less

I've been here a couple of times. This one is first I'm reviewing and is while this place is going through renovation. The renovation is not complete. Definitely a lot has improved. The corridors, the rooms are all looking refreshed, nice and modern. The things I likes less 1. There is less room to put your stuff in the bathroom. Also the tub and the curtain attached to it are a bit outdated. 2. The old dining room and restaurant have been transformed into a conference center. The restaurant and bar are joined together into a modern stylistic space. It is nice, but is less inviting and cozy. The former space was more inviting overlooking the nice outlook from the windows, which had been kind of unique for this hotel.
Sleep quality is good although noise isolation is average. My neighbor was noisy and I could tell everything he/she did since waking up at 5:00am.
The service is attentive and polite both in reception and the restaurant/bar. Breakfast is good, but I think overpriced as this is a fairly ordinary buffet.
The pool and Jacuzzi are closed during the weekdays. Why?
The location is tricky. I would not find it without GPS although I stayed there a couple of times. That said, there aren't many better choices in the area. « less

Dear Ron, thank you for your kind observations and feedback about our newly reinvented Renaissance Westchester! My dedicated team were very pleased that you enjoyed their service, and I have taken note of your review of our new spaces. While the new restaurant and bar is certainly different than the one you had been used to, we are finding that with the warm colors and the comfortable seating, our guests have been really gravitate to that space to relax and dine. And the new conference room "The Harrison" has been delighting many guests for private events, with the floor to celing windows overlooking the beautiful wooded landscape.
In the bathrooms, we did install a convenient glass shelf next to the sink, and two shelves just under the wash basin for our guests to place their toiletries. Also, starting next week, the pool will be open every day again, as you would expect. I do apologize if this was an inconveneince for you!
I hope to see you at our Renaissance again soon, and thank you again for your very kind observations. Catherine

This upscale hotel is tucked away in the woods at the top of a hill. It's always clean and the staff is friendly. Like most hotels, the restaurant is a bit pricey, but the food is good. I always enjoy staying here, but the only downside is that it's not walkable to any restaurants besides the hotel restaurant. « less
