I love the Hyatt Regency in Cancun, its very clean with a fantastic beach. The hotel is not as fancy as some of the big Fiesta resorts, etc however it has a great feel to it. Unfortunately the Hyatt was booked so I booked a night at Intercontinental Cancun, I have stayed at several InterContinental's around the world so I felt like this was a safe bet.
The check in was extremely slow, I asked for a King Size bed however they told me they only had rooms with Twin Beds available however if I wanted to pay an "upgrade fee" I could get a room with a King size bed. Needless to say, I hate it when your staying at a 4+ star hotel and they try to upsell you. Lastly the internet is extremely expensive and extremely slow.
The breakfast buffet was "good" nothing to write home about. The beach and pools are nice. There are a lot of better hotels in Cancun that I would stay at before I return. « less

Great hotel, very nice and quiet, not a "mega" resort but an understated, sophisticated place. The Presidente Intercontinental is located on the best beach in Cancun with white sand and very small waves, perfect for children. The bar next to the pool, on the beach is very enjoyable, we had terrific cocktails and good service. Especially we enjoyed talking with sr. Olegario, one of the personable staff managers and he recommended the romantic dinner to us. This candle lit dinner is super special, right on the beach with just a couple of tables and really a good deal and wonderful food and service, very memorable! Also should mention Paul, a retired American yacht owner and he peddles trips on his sailboat yacht Spartacus for something like $25-$30 per person, great experience to see beautiful Cancun from the ocean! You will find him every morning walking on the beach. « less

We stayed two nights after spending several days in Playa del Carmen and Isla Mujures. This was our "large hotel" experience after staying in smaller hotels. We knew what to expect and the hotel delivered (both good and bad). The facilities were good to excellent. In particular we found the beach very nice and just want we wanted. We knew that we would pay more for beach food and drinks, and though prices were high, they were not terrible. I'm sure other hotels are much higher, but we wanted to have the convenience.
The room was very comfortable. The beds were great. There are no safes in the room, which was disappointing. Apparently the hotel has removed them and have safe deposit boxes available. They are not as convenient as a room safe. Television was fine with several english language stations. We only watched enough to get caught up on the news.
My biggest complaint was the wi-fi. First it always irritates me to have to pay for internet access in four star hotels, when it is free in a 3 star. Makes no sense! But it was relatively expensive here ($10 US for 12 hours access) and it did not work well in our room. We had to get on the internet, so ended up accessing in the lobby and restaurant.
We ate a couple of meals in the restaurant and on the beach. The food was good to excellent.
We found the service very good, which is typically for these types of properties.
In short, this hotel was an excellent value. Staff was very good. If you are looking for a large hotel, good service and amenities, then this should be a consideration, especially since the beach was terrific. « less

Let me start by saying I have been traveling to Cancun for almost 30 years and this section of the beach is by far the best. I stayed here a few times over the years. Very calm water, in a nice area with mix of residential and hotels. I had the breakfast package which was worth the money very nice selection and a great view directly on the beach. The room was modern and clean and very comfortable. The staff was helpful. The pool area is very nice and well kept. Had lunch at beach and beach restaurant a few times and was very good. The exterior of the hotel does show its age but the remodel of the interior is well done, If you want a place with a great beach and clean modern rooms and a very nice experience do not hesitate. I am heading back in a few months. « less

Intercontinental Presidente, Cancun Resort
I like this property so much that I cancelled a reservation at a very good Cancun hotel to spend two extra days here. Sophisticated and restrained, it is immaculately maintained, with not a speck of trash on the grounds, not a twig out of place. Its pool is a jewel; its beach a delight. The staff is friendly, helpful, and unobtrusive.
Ensconced in this serene haven, I felt safe, happy. Did not want to leave.
And by the way, all those gruesome stories of violence and drug wars should not scare you away from the scores of amazing hotels and resorts in Cancun's miles-long hotel zone.
One complaint. Of the few English-speaking channels, one is Fox News. Hannity was bashing Obama and the UN. Eeek! Americans can put anti-immigrant messaging and conspiracy theories into perspective. But what about Mexicans and international guests? Management should balance Fox News with MSNBC or take it off. Or run the Food Network.
Speaking of food, one of the featured items at EL CARIBENO, the hotel's restaurant, is its pineapple flambé. The presentation is dramatic, the blend of flavors subtle. The secret is xtabentun (pron. ish-tab-en-TOON) a Mayan liqueur made of honey produced by a rare native bee and anise. I returned just to order the dessert again. Their buffet breakfast (about $22US) is wonderful, too. « less
