If you want the best experience in San Diego, there is no other place to stay than here. The location is perfect. The view is amazing no matter the city view or the bay view (I've stayed in both). The food is superb. The service is not only great, it's genuine. The rooms are newly remodeled. The pool is amazing. What else can one say? Ok, nonody's perfect. So the only bad thing is that the pool isn't open 24 hours. But then again, as a sleeping guest. I probably wouldn't want it to be either. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else while I'm San Diego. They also a lot of military that are allowed to come and go at the pool. They are a great addition as well as they are very friendly and fun to talk to and hear their stories. « less

Since this was our first trip to San Diego, we really weren't sure where to stay. Did some research on Trip Advisor and picked the Marriott Marquis in San Diego. All I can say is WOW...., I am so glad we choose this hotel. So close (walking distance) to Seaport Village, Gas Lamp Square, many Marina's and restaurants, the USS Midway & Martime Musuem and so many other attractions.
The room was modern, clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pools and hot tubs were warm and clean. The onsite fitness centre was large and fully equipped. The restaurants served good food and the Tequila pool bar was fun! Very tropical setting in the pool area.
All in all an excellent stay..., and will most definitely be returning. « less

I am torn....
On a recent business trip to San Diego I booked the Marriott Marquis for the location (right next door to the convention center). Overall, the hotel is very nice and the staff is very professional.
However...I booked an executive suite because I like my space. I wanted the separate bedroom from a work/living area so I could spread out. I paid 800 dollars a night (ouch) for the luxury of extra space.
I was booked on the 4th floor (room 441 to be exact). The view was nice and it was a corner room and it was sandwiched between a staircase and the outside world. Because of the convention, there was A LOT of activity on the floor (catering, meetings, cocktail parties) and a lot of movement in the staircase with the door slamming. You can hear A LOT.
The biggest downfall was how tight this "executive suite" was for 800 bucks a night. The ceiling was so low I could touch certain areas just by raising my hand (I am not a tall guy at 5'8"). The WORST part was the shower.... small.... tiny actually. My head would hit the shower head and there was a ceiling soffit that set low. I hated the sink area. there was no way two people can function in this room to get ready.
The bed was comfortable and the pillows and comforter were nice and fluffy.
Even with my Marriott rewards program I will not stay at this hotel again and I would not recommend this hotel to my friends or family. Not that it was a bad hotel, but it was too confined for the price I paid. « less

We stayed as a couple May 8-13 and really enjoyed our stay! The only reason I didn't give a 5 star is that there is no free wifi in the guestrooms (you must go to the lobby) which was annoying. Upon checkin the front desk clerk was friendly and checkin was fast and efficient. We got to room 1660(south tower) which was really nice with a king bed and view overlooking the coronado bridge and waterfront as well as a bit of downtown. the pool grounds are very nice. it reminded us of Hawaii with all the lush greens and flowers. there is also a hottub which isnt shown on their online photos. the pool bar is decent priced for beers (6$) and snacks, the margatitas/daaquiris were 11-14 which i thought were a bit steep. happy hour is 5-7 daily with a margarita for $8 which is more reasonable. on the lobby floor there is a starbucks and express grab and go snack restaurant. we didnt eat at the hotel restaurant but i did pass through at breakfast and the buffet looked amazing. a special kudos to mike at the concierge, he is a wonderful asset to this hotel ! all in all it was a great trip and we would recommend the marriot ! room tip - we requested a room facing the ocean based on previous reviews of the train being noisy. even facing the ocean i did hear the train every morning so i can imagine a train facing room would be annoying. the north tower has balconies, i would suggest getting a north tower pool facing room to avoid the train noise. « less
