What to expect: Built by inventor F.O. Stanley in 1909, the white-pillared, Georgian-revival hotel has been named a Historic Hotel of America by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Perched above the resort town of Estes Park, five miles from Rocky Mountain National Park, the hotel is a popular spot for couples, conferences, weddings, and nature buffs. The Stanley has been host to feature films like: The Shining and Jim Carey's famous hit Dumb & Dumber. Amenity highlights: Complimentary high-speed wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel (network cards not provided), and a business center offers complimentary high-speed Internet access for guests without laptops. Guests can swim in the seasonal outdoor pool, enjoy a spa treatment (surcharge), or take history and ghost tours of the historic hotel (surcharge). Insider tip: Guests can explore Rocky Mountain National Park and Roosevelt National Forest on horseback from the Cowpoke Corner Corral and National Park Gateway Stables. The company offers scenic rides lasting from one hour to all day. Pony rides are available for children. Surcharges apply.
