This was my second stay at the Hyatt Cancun, and I was a bit apprehensive as this time I was using Hyatt points (10,000 per night) rather than paying full price. Upon arrival I was told that I would be checking in at the Regency Club (14th fl), but was then told they were 'eating', so I would be accommodated at the main floor desk. It was about noon, but I was told my room was ready-- and after asking about an ocean view, I was told I had been prebooked into a full ocean front (room 1121). They did ask if I wanted the double dining option, but as I was only here for one night, I declined. They then gave me a packet with info on the Regency Club hours, spa and other services including the code for the Free WiFI, and asked if I needed help to my room (I declined). Room was great, and did look updated from my past stay (Oct 2011). Could be the fact that these were Regency floor rooms ?? The WiFi worked great in the room--but did not seem to work anywhere else in the hotel ?? View out to the sea was fantastic as usual and the room was nicely appointed. I would definitely recommend the Regency Club, as the food & beverages were great, the staff was extremely helpful and kept coming around to refill glasses. They were able to make a variety of mixed drinks, offer wine, beer and champagne. (Also note that during breakfast, they will prepare Bloody Mary's and mimosa's upon request :) ) The desk in the lounge was able to call and confirm my return car service as well as print out my boarding pass. (The last time I was there, I was told I would have to pay to use the business center for printing and the pay phone to confirm my pick up) . All in all, I would definitely stay here again, and in fact have already booked my next trip this coming Oct. « less

I chose the Hyatt Regency Cancun for a number of reasons - reputation, proximity to the beach and major entertainment center. However I am not altogether sure I will return to this same hotel if I were to visit Cancun again.
Positives - beautiful beach is literally right outside the hotel, with nice beachside huts and lounge chairs. Major entertainment center is just a 10 minute walk away. Most of the hotel staff were friendly, with a particular emphasis on most. Check out service was great but read on for check in service. Pool area was nice although it seemed a tad small for a resort.
Negatives - Unfriendly/indifferent check in service. Male front desk clerk was not helpful at all. I had to ask about additional services instead of him informing me, eg Hyatt Gold Club, requesting an ocean view. Prices to upgrade was $30 a night, which was much higher than I read through other reviews and $90 for Gold. Unreliable internet service - despite using an range extender device, the internet service was a constant source of frustration the entire trip.
The neighboring Fiesta Americana Hotel had vastly superior internet service and it was easier to connect to their service instead of the Hyatt's! Inconsistent towel service attendants for beach/pool. One attendant was so busy looking at his cell phone, he didnt even bother to acknowledge me nor look at me and instead simply gave me a towel and took the towel card. Requested new light bulb 3 times to maid service and still didnt get it changed. Noise from nightclubs nearby wasnt as bad as I've read from other reviews and hotel isnt as old as many reviewers make it out to be.
Worst experience - multiple daily instances of staff members knocking on the door and entering even if you dont answer or want to be bothered. There is no Do No Disturb sign. People knock on the door, trying to sell you refreshments even though there was plenty of snacks, drinks etc available inside the room, checking on mini bar and entering with a card key, maid service knocking on the door early etc. Very annoying!! « less

Having acquired a room through priceline at this hotel, I was a little apprehensive after reading some mixed reviews, however, we consider ourselves travellers not tourists and therefore open minded to different cultures, customs and places. Mind you, we have been to Cancun plenty of times before with and without our kids, so I knew the exact hotel location which in my opinion is a privilege one. After our arrival checking in was quick and courteous but really without much personality or that cheerful service attitude we are accustomed when in Mexico, and since I was already a little judgemental I hoped at that moment that our entire stay wouldn't be as dry as the initial impression I was having of the hotel and its personnel. I've read about the upgrades but they were never really offer to us, when we inquired about them we were told that to upgrade to a oceanview room will be $30 a night extra and that all we will get was a room facing the Ocean and to upgrade to the club level will be $80 a night and that will get us an Ocean room plus continental breakfast and snacks at the Regency club, we thought the price for the upgrade was not worth the money and wonder if it had anything to do with us paying a significantly reduced rate through priceline, therefore we passed on the upgrades. However we were offer the double your credit special they had, you pay an amount of money and the Hyatt doubles it for food and other services in the hotel, FYI if you use your credit card to do this the minimun amount is $100 but if you choose cash the minimun amount is $200. After a mixed first impression we got to our room in the 4th floor with a view of the hotel entrance and directly across from those dready noise making a/c generators of the Coral Beach hotel ( I beleive that is the name of that hotel) and partial view of the ocean and a good view of the pools, however with the balcony doors closed the noise becomes basically a very faint humm that didn't affect our stay in any way. I understand why some people didn't like this at all, but I'm not sure if there is anything the hotel can do about it. Now to the room, it was basic with plain colors and dated furniture and yes they do show their age, but don't we all? I thought the beds were comfortable (yes we got two, so we used one to place our luggage and the other one one to sleep a little closer to each other, after all it was our 18th anniversary trip) in the closet we found two bathrobes and a safe which it worked just fine when we tried it even though we never did actually used it, next to the closet you will find overpriced snacks on top of the minifridge with overpriced drinks, they do however offer two bottles of water for free a day, ours were located in the bathroom sink, now if you want snacks just go to the OXXO across the street from the hotel and you can get the same snacks for a better price. Our cordless telephone didn't work, the HDTV although it was kind of small it had adequate programming and it worked just fine. The bathroom was not as clean as we had hope for and we found a couple of contact lenses on the bathroom sink from previous guests, now at this point we felt the negatives were outweighting the positives and decided to contact the front desk to make them aware of the issues thus far, and this is when I started to fall in love with the hotel and the what can we do attitude with smile that I'm so spoiled by when in Mexico. We asked for the bathroom to be retouched and our phone to be fixed, we asked for extra towels and to be brought some extra free bottles of water, all was done whithin a reasonable amount of time along with a plate of fruits and a daily phone message asking us if there anything else that we need it. I understand its basically their job to make sure this issues don't eve happen to begin with and if they do, to have them fixed right away, but their genuinely desired to have us as satisfied customers and the " I really care that you are happy with our service while here rather than the I'm just doing my Job attitude" is what put my preconceived notions at ease. The hotel grounds are immacualte with manycure lawns, the hotel has 4 pools two in a higher level and two in a lower level, one pool in each level is a kid pool the other ones in each level are regular pools. They pool areas have plenty of chairs with cushions on them and the lower regular pool has chairs and small round tables built inside the water it also has a swim up bar. At check inn you will be given towel cards that you exchange as you enter the pool area for towels, when you are done you give them the towels back and they give you your cards back, and check out you turn them in, I'm assuming this is a cost control method and we particulary had no problems with it, another cost control method and one I found kind of odd was that they don't have Do Not Disturb signs to hang on your doors, so if you dont want housekeeping like we did make sure you let them know and they will make a note of it. The workout room is nice, with very limited view of the outside, is located at the lower level and had enough equipment for the very few souls that keep their excercise routines while on vacation. The beach was clean and big it has an area that is perfect for small kids as it is protected by a seawall thus making the normally rough waters a lot more calmer. It had enought palapas to choose from and although no directly on the beach they have 5 highly coveted king size beach beds in a cabana looking set up. The hotel has three restaurants, the first one located as you enter the lobby is more of a coffee house than a restaurant with sweets and small bites, the other restaurants sits accross the lobby it has wall to wall glasses and provides a beautiful view of the beach, this is where breakfats is served and I actually cannot say I saw it open other wise, the third restaurant is actually outside in the upper level pool area and it provides an even better view of the hotel zone if you get to eat on the outside area of it, this restaurant is actually open until 11pm and if you go late like we did the tables outside were abound and like I said the view is unbeatable especially at night and that coupled with delicious food and excellent service; made for one of the most superb and romatic meals we have ever had anywhere. Speaking of meals, we took advantage of the double your credit offer and $100 ($200 credit) was enough to cover our 3 breakfasts and that one incredible dinner, food is on the expensive side at the hotel so we paced ourselves to make our credit last, we also ordered a la carte twice for breakfast and it was plenty to keep us full into lunch time and whithin budget. One last thing I would like to add to this rant(you can hate me for it later) is an observation I made about the comments written here before and after my stay at this hotel in regards to Mexican families staying here, I'm not sure why some people find this to be a surprise or detrimenting to the hotel, after you are in Mexico and my humble opinion will be to try and use that as an opportunity to actually get to now some of them and you will find out that they are just like any other families with the same dreams, problems and hopes we all face every day and getting to know some aspects of their lives will only enrich us as persons. I really hope you find some information useful to you in your future travels to this part of the world, I'm sorry I went a little philosophical on you guys at the end. Overall, yes the hotel is a little old but I believe is extremely well kept given its age ( I beleive it was opened in 1983), the location is superb and the oceanfront rooms view has no rival, they have something that even some of the most high end hotels in the USA do not offer, FREE WIFI AND FREE PARKING,, the seawall that makes part of their beach enjoyable for families with little kids, if you encounter problems while here give them a chance to fix them and you might end up loving this property just as I did. « less

While in Cancun for a conference my wife and I stayed for 5 nights at the Hyatt Regency hotel. I must admit that based on a number of adverse reviews in this forum we were a tad concerned however, I am pleased to say that our stay at the Hyatt was very pleasant and we would certainly stay at this hotel again if we found ourselves back in Cancun. We paid a little more and booked a deluxe room with an ocean view and it was worth it. The view looking out onto the sparkling Caribbean sea and down Cancun beach from our 7th floor room was indeed splendid! The room itself was clean and comfortable and fortunately not too noisy, although music could be heard into the wee hours from the nightspots down the beach this didn’t keep us awake at night. Wireless internet was available in our room and although quite pricey at $16.00 per day for reasons not clear to us we were not charged on check-out. We found the hotel staff to be quite friendly and very helpful. The hotel is located in the hotel zone of Cancun so is reasonably close (5-10 min walk) to a number of restaurants, shops and nightspots. Perhaps the best feature of this hotel is the lovely sandy beach in front which we enjoyed each day relaxing after a long day at the conference. « less

Second stay in two years. Staff is friendly, but the front desk staff is incompetent. Our first room faced South East and the music from Coco Bongo kept us awake until 4:00 AM. Staff moved us to another room on the opposite side of the hotel, noise problem solved, but the bed in the second room was terrible. When you add in food and drinks the price point isn't that attractive. They just added a bar on the beach which is convenient and the wireless Internet is fairly reliable. « less
