We were just astonished when we got into our room. It is a corner room with windows at two sides, so the room is bright, and we could look outside both windows and enjoy the city view. There is sitting area and kitchenette. Many restaurants and bars nearby, and the hotel breakfast is goo as well. Staffs are nice and helpful. Great stay in general. « less

My partner and I just returned from a wedding weekend in Birmingham, Alabama, and we stayed with several of the guest party at the Hotel Highland at Five Points for a couple of nights, occupying Suite 601.
The Hotel Highland has so much going for it. It is very well located to serve the Five Points area: world class restaurants; funky entertainment; the UAB medical center. It has a good public staff: valets; desk clerks; housekeeping; lounge and breakfast servers. And, it is very accommodating: health and meeting facilities; spacious rooms; parking deck; and good prices. Unfortunately, a few small things, and, perhaps, one major issue, keep it from where it needs to be and where it should be: the best premier boutique hotel in Birmingham.
To get right to the point, there may be some serious plumbing issues for the hotel to deal with, starting with low water pressure in some lavatories (thankfully not the shower!), as well as reversed water supply lines, especially in the shower, but also in lavatories, and, of all places, the toilet. Yes, the toilet water is warm--the bowl and tank were warm to the touch.
Further, the magnifying swing mirror in the bathroom was wobbly and had a dead light, so shaving was difficult, and a woman applying cosmetics would be very poorly served. There were several burned out bulbs and/or non-functioning light fixtures throughout, a remote control needed new batteries. There was no note pad or pen to be found, and the desk could only supply a pen. An at-the-ready valet gave me some of his note paper to use. Finally, the wonderful Keuerig coffee maker was supplied with coffee packs for a drip coffee maker!
Of course, these latter things are details which can be easily remedied by maintenance and housekeeping, but the plumbing issue may be a more significant problem to solve in this decades old, historic building. But, it is a shame that so many small things can quickly add up to a less-than-expected experience. « less

Thank you so much for your review! We certainly hate that your experience was not up to our standards and hope you will come and visit with us again in the future! The plumbing in this old building is a bit tricky~ Thank you again and please stop by and say hello the next time you are here! Renee :)

Great place to stay if in Birmingham- cute boutique feel, in the heart of Highlands, lots within walking distance, and very friendly staff. The rooms were very clean, offered comfort, and the staff accommodated all requests timely and very professionally.
This was a business trip and we reserved a total of 17+ rooms, the sales staff was great to work with and offered suggestions to make our stay even better. « less

We stayed at the Hotel Highland as part of a wedding weekend in Birmingham. The best thing about this hotel was its location. It was close to parking in a public garage, with covered walking from the garage back to the hotel. It was also right in the 5 points area, so the car was a park and forget for the weekend.
Right next door was World of Beer. Just down the street is what has to be the world's best Waffle House (yes, I know, but it was GOOD), and a decent Mexican restaurant and Cantina. It was an easy walk to the Mellow Mushroom for great pizza.
The hotel offered a decent continental breakfast, with waffles, sausage, scrambled egg patties, cereal, pastries, and bagels. What more could you ask for? The bar tender was friendly, and the pours were generous.
The beds were comfortable, the rooms were well maintained and clean. We'll be staying there again if we're in the area. « less

Don't expect to have your room RESERVED! Apparently they only take REQUESTS. Our reservations were completely screwed up. They did not have the ADA room we reserved. They never informed us, just put us in a regular room. They never apologized for the mistake. Service was terrible. The owner was even more rude than the staff. Unbelievable! « less

Testimonials: Why use Hotel Planner?
"2 of the hotels that sent me bids actually took it upon themselves to call me directly. Which I really appreciated. I wanted to let you know that I think that you offer a wonderful service." L.C. - Charlotte, NC
"This has to be the easiest reservation I have ever encountered, as far as a group reservation anyway. When I made group reservations for my other daughter's wedding in Houston a few years ago, it was a nightmare! Wish I would have known about you then." Carolyn H. - Boston, MA
