We were in Devon on a vintage car rally and although we could not stay at Gidleigh Park because we were a late entry and the other entarnts had already filled the hotel, we did go there for dinner each evening. The service was exemplary, the food was delicious and the sommeliere was very helpful. The reports we had on the rooms from those who stayed there were highly complimentary and the two rally mechanics who stayed there said that they couldn't imagine there was any hotel which could give better service in the World! It was very very good - hard to beat! « less

My husband surprised me by booking an overnight stay for us both at Gidleigh Park this month to celebrate our 20th anniversary - what a treat! We had the most fabulous room with rose petals scattered everywhere, beautiful spa products in the bathroom and a bottle of bubbly on ice, with some delicious chocolates to whet our appetite and half a decanter of Madeira; now that really got the evening started! We had the 8 course signature menu comprising a trio of amuse bouche with our aperitif, then lobster, fois gras, cod, duck, lamb, cheese, fruit, sorbet & mousse and then petite fours with tea/coffe (yes, much more than 8 courses). The wine was delicious too - I can't imagine you can make a bad choice from the menu. Hard to believe but we went back down for more food at breakfast in the morning, then chilled on the patio reading the Sunday papers in the sun. Bliss! If you're still hungry, they have a little pantry/ kitchen with fresh biscuits and more tea and coffee. What more can you want? We left the kids at home and would advise you do the same - it's definitely a place for grown ups and somewhere you WILL want to return to. Fabulous. « less

We satyed 2 nights on a gourmet break. Hotel is in beautiful counrtyside, and is a gem. Our room was lovely, the staff wherever you met them were superb, from the waiters, housekeeping, and the gardeners.
The food is wonderful and fully deserving of its 2 stars. The Wine list is amazing, but if like us you need help the sommeliers were tops at providing the right coices for your particular menu.
Its not cheap, but as the saying goes you get what you pay for, and at Gidleigh its top drawer! « less

A return visit for lunch, and the food was exquisite as ever, as was the service and the ambience. We wandered round the gardens which are equally good. The house is just perfect, the country retreat of an Edwardian millionaire, or an Agatha Christie novel. Drinking coffee on the terrace takes you straight back to another era - but the cuisine is bang up to date. « less

I don't often write reviews on tripadvisor, but Gidleigh park is certainly worth a stay. It is expensive but worth every penny for a genuine once in a lifetime experience of pure luxury.
We've stayed in lots of highly reviewed places before, but here the staff were exceptional, really friendly, nothing was too much trouble and it really felt they were there to ensure you had the best stay possible
The grounds- I can't think of enough superlatives to cover it, such a breathtaking location with amazing views from the patio and brilliant walks around the grounds
The food-this is what i was looking forward to most and it did not disappoint, best meal i have ever had and we've eaten at similar restaurants. 8 courses of wonderfully constructed food, great sommelier and wine, really slick service
The room- we stayed in the forest rooms, the bed was sooo comfy and there were loads of nice touches and more that you might expect from a hotel of this quality
Overall- great place to celebrate special occasion, every aspect exceeded my expectations, the focus on making every aspect of your stay perfect is evident and I think even the most seasoned trip advisor moaners would struggle to find faults
