I stayed here for one night (March 28th) and I will not return. I stayed at 12 Best Westerns as I did a cross-country drive from New York to L.A. (February to March, 2013) and this was my least favorite Best Western Plus hotel.
PROs 1. Jennifer, in reservations - she was extremely helpful the 2 times I spoke with her. 2. Doug, Front Desk Manager - Doug was outstanding in trying to have me come back again, but I don't think so. He does have my respect and most positive regard. 3. The Location - bordering on to Old Town San Diego and not too far from my favorite Mexican Restaurant, Casa Guadalajara. 4. Scenic views - from the upper floors. Hey, it's San Diego. 5. Attractive property
CONs The CONs shown below were submitted to the hotel in an email, without a response. I didn't especially like the layout of the hotel, I prefer ground floor accommodations. That's a matter of taste and not a deficiency of the hotel.
However these things did really bother me:
1. The lack of privacy in the room. There were gaps in the slats and I have the photos that show them.
2. The bed and TV placement was ridiculous. The TV was on the side of the bed and couldn't be comfortably watched.
3. Poor housekeeping - The piece of plastic (the guard from a razor) I stepped on in the bathroom (minor bruise, not worth a formal complaint. However, had it broken and penetrated skin . . . a lawsuit at the very least.
4. The attempt to rip me off for a $14.00 parking fee when a sign out front was offering general public parking for $5.00 night and $10.00 day.
5. The entrance to the parking structure which is very clearly labeled EXIT and graphically with an arrow - Ridiculous.
6. The Hacienda is the only BW Plus hotel I ever stayed at that ended breakfast at 9:00 a.m. and not 10:00 a.m. - penny-pinching stinginess.
7. The WiFi internet problem. I spent 45 minutes on MY cell phone talking to Jason at LodgeNet trying to solve the problem, but it was unsolvable. So at midnight I had to get dressed and come down to the lobby to check my 'net messages. A direct result of putting in your own unreliable and cheaper WiFi and disconnecting the Ethernet modem - Ridiculous.
8. Not to mention a $7.00 Facility Fee - What the hell was that?
9. At checkout, Alex was alone at the backed up front desk and it was only after I raised my voice in complaint that more people came out to help her.
"So, why would I come back to the BW Hacienda? I am a visitor or perhaps even a guest in your home, and not a sheep to be sheared or a fool to be taken advantage of."
As always when reading my reviews, this was my experience . . . and yours (hopefully) will be better. BTW, check the Margaritas and Chimichangas (I prefer the beef ones) at Casa Guadalajara - a perfect way to end a day of San Diego sightseeing. « less

great location right in the heart of old town. Loved the resort style of the inn. Stayed at the top of the 600 building (over 200 stairs) so dessert was guilt free. The views were amazing. There are elevators, so stairs aren't necessary. Pool and hot tub were great. The entire outdoor space is so beautifully lanscaped/ hardscaped. The side gate led us straight to restaurants with kids' menus. The museums and heritage sites extremely close. The hotel restaurant had great breakfast buffet and kids eat free all day on Tuesday's. Hotel service was friendly and effiecent. Not our first visit and definitely not our last. « less

Very nice hotel in a great location. Rooms are big and comfortable. We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights with the first night in building 6 and by the road which I would not recommend as you here the street noise early in the morning. I would recommend staying in building 4. The only issue about this hotel is that if you have any issues with stairs this hotel has lots. But overall nice hotel and I would stay here again « less

My husband, our 6 month old baby, and I stayed here when my sister got married in October. It's a really nice hotel. Located on a hill side in Old Town so there are lots of different levels and some nice views. Some rooms have balconies. TIP- Don't get a balcony facing a parking lot. Those didn't look so fun. There is a mexican restaurant on top level. Also you can walk to other restaurants and to old town park. Paid parking in underground structure or on the street. You can usually find street parking. « less
