We have season tickets to the Artist Rep. Theater. We come early, check in at the Hotel Deluxe, see the play just a block away, go to the Driftwood Room at the Hotel for a snack, stay overnight and leave for home(Mt. Angel) the next morning. It always makes for a wonderful experience thanks in large part by the way we are treated at the Hotel Deluxe. We have done this going back to when this was the Mallory Hotel. Decided to book a last minute trip to Portland and searched the usual sites: hotwire, priceline, expedia, itravel2000, travel portland, etc. Found a sale on Expedia and called the hotel to see if they would price match. The reservations process was positive and we were able to get the sale rate. However, the hotel failed to send a confirmation email. The next morning (day of arrival), I had still not received any sort of confirmation email. I called the hotel and asked them to re-send it, it never came. We arrived at the hotel at around 2pm and we were to able to check-in early.
Staff: All of the staff we communicated with (valet + front desk) were extremely positive and eager to assist.
Decor: I would describe the hotel as a Hollywood inspired boutique property. The exterior and interior is very "old world glam" (lots of character and nicely furnished).
Rooms: In my opinion the rooms are a bit small. That being said, I booked into a standard queen and I'm sure there are larger rooms and other options. The bathroom is really tiny and that bath tub shows age (things to be aware of but expected at an older property). I actually tried to take a bath during my stay and the overflow drain (the circular thing below the faucet) only allowed the bath to be half full. This would've been okay for a child but as a grown adult it wasn't quite enough water.
Location: The hotel is conveniently located on the outskirts of downtown. Little exterior noise and walking distance to some great restaurants and shops.
Cons: - Walls are paper thin. A baby next door cried about 50% of the time we were in the room. Also a great 3am wake up... - No full length mirror in the room - I found valet parking kind of annoying. The $35 parking fee is expected for a downtown location but the parking lot is literally across from the hotel. The driveway was often full and when you came down to get you car it wasn't brought out until you were at the driveway. Seemed kind of pointless.
The service and location is really what makes this hotel special. I'd definitely stay at this property again! « less

I went to this hotel at 8:30 am to see if I could check in early. No problem! The room was ready, cool, and with smooth jazz playing on the radio. The hotel is decked out with photos of famous movie stars of the 1950s. Very nifty!
I sat in the lounge area and observed how the bellmen were courteous and gracious. Someone trained them well. I will go there again. « less

I booked a room for a weekend getaway for me and any wife and our stay at the Hotel Deluxe was perfect. After speaking to the front desk (Andy), i decided to upgrade to a bigger room - it was definitely worth it. I also requested if the hotel would arrange if some flowers would be added to the room - we went out for dinner and returned to a wonderfully candle light, rose scented and petaled room...perfectly executed and what an extremely pleasant surprise. We had an awesome pampered comfortable stay. We highly recommend this hotel to any one especially if you are looking for a quiet, romantic, sensual getaway. « less
