The hotel is just outside the walled city and a good location for us. We stayed here 4 nights. The room was nice with comfortable beds, a beautiful bathroom and plenty of storage. The air conditioner (which we needed) worked well. Our room had a small balcony overlooking the courtyard. « less

Immediate, strong, hot water? Jacuzzi tub? Elaborate lobby? Fabulous buffet breakfast? Hotel Monterrey has none of these. But our room, 203, looks out across the Plaza of The Martyrs directly to the clock tower at the entrance to the old city and with an easy stroll you are in the midst of all the restaurants, museums, and street scenes you come to Cartagena to experience. Great a/c, TV, and refrigerator in the room. And the breakfast buffet served in their beautiful inner courtyard is more than sufficient. Several in our group of world travelers found the hotel restaurant to be superior to others. The rooftop, with a fantastic view, bar, swimming pool and dining is a significant amenity for this Botique hotel. So, what do you want? Glitz or charm? Beach or Old City? Modern or quaint? Hotel Monterrey Colombia is quaint, charming, and superbly located for the traveler interested in seeing the culture of the Old City. « less

Staying at Monterrey was a great decision. The hotel is just outside the walls of the old city. The cab ride from the airport takes only about 15 minutes. Our plane landed at 12:30 PM and by 2:00 PM we were checked-in and walking through the old city.
We had a great view of La Ciudad Amurallada and Puerta del Reloj; we felt privileged to have this view. Although we could hear some noise from the street at night, we were tired enough that we slept very well. The hotel is also very clean and they are continuing to improve it. The hotel location is excellent, within walking distance of the Convention Center and right outside of the Ciudad Amurallada; it is also close to several excellent restaurants.
They have an interior patio where breakfast is served. The breakfast always included freshly squeezed orange juice, and a second juice which varied. In our five breakfast we were served delicious juices such as mango, guanabana, and papaya. The breakfast also includes eggs, whole wheat toast, and yogurt; but the freshly squeezed juices and great service was what really made the difference. Breakfast runs from 6:30 - 10:00 AM, but we were able to make arrangements for a simpler breakfast at 6:00 AM since our flight was early. If you like to dance Salsa, they are next door to Quiebra Canto. This was my second stay at Monterrey and I would happy to came back. « less
