My Mom and I come here every year for the last 5 years for our annual Mother's Day trip. The first year we were here we were so amazed and really felt the place was a gem and well worth the price. 5 years later they have increased the prices so much that I am not sure if we will stay here again next year? It depends on how much it goes up from now to when I book in December. This years stay was a bit frustrating, so I thought I should review again. We booked in December via Best Western.com. We have done this every year that we have been going and never had a problem. This year when we went to check in(after receiving verification of our reservation via Best Western) our reservation was not to be found. After driving for 4 1/2 hours and realizing that this hotel is BOOKED for Mothers Day week, we were not very happy to say the least. I have to say that the front desk customer service is OUTSTANDING!!!!! I have to give a huge shout out to Latina. She is an excellent employee and you definitely want to keep her around. Without us saying a word about how disappointed we were and how SCARED we were that we would not get a room, she soon had us feeling like our vacation was right on track. We didnt have to ask for anything. She was extremely proactive. Got us a room, not the one we booked, BUT was able to promise us(and came through with it) the room we wanted would be available the next day. She just went above and beyond what alot of hotel employees would do to make sure that we were comfortable and that we were compensated a little bit for our inconvenience. She had our stuff moved from the one room to the other room. We didnt have to ask, she just made sure everything was perfect and I appreciate that so very much!
Now, onto the review of the hotel itself. First off, parking, it has increased in the last year from $10 a night to a whopping $17 a night!!! This is a ridiculous amount to have to pay for parking. After paying almost $200 a night for your room(mid week rates mind you) paying almost $20 more a night just to be able to park your car is outrageous. It would be different if you had an option to park somewhere else for free or even a lower rate, but you were choosing to park closer or in a "safer" location. But you have NO choice of where to park or what to pay. I am really starting to have a hard time justifying the rate increase with the same rooms that they are offering. The walkways are literally falling apart, and although they have added some metal bracing to the walkways above and below you, they are still cracking up and are not level. It does not feel particularly safe anymore. I thought this was something they were going to fix better this year, but they have fallen short so far. They did improve the WIFI which is nice, and they have somewhat improved the television, however, the remotes are TERRIBLE!! I know, I know, who goes to the beach to watch tv right? Well I like the tv on at night right before I fall asleep and if you want to watch tv and be in bed forget about it. We had two different rooms and you literally had to be on top of the tv for it to change channels. I had to get out of bed to get the volume changes, channel changes and to set the sleep timer. Very annoying when you are comfy and trying to relax. They need to work on that seriously it was extremely frustrating. The rooms were very clean as usual. When we first got there the windows were a messy nightmare. This is the most important part of your view, and they had some really greasy substance on the windows. When we changed rooms I asked the maid if I could have something to clean the windows off with and she said maintenance took care of that. I really just wanted to do it myself because you couldnt see out the window. So I took the towels they provide for the bathroom, wet them with hot water and got out there and washed the windows myself. I dont know if anyone saw this or not, but I can tell you that after being gone after that for about a couple of hours ALL of the windows on our floor were finally cleaned. I know that must be one hell of a job to keep up on in that particular location, and it wasnt like they were just misty or had a few fingerprints on them, they were literally yellow, and grimey, and greasy and completely smudged. These are all little things that I think if you are going to charge what you charge to stay in this hotel that these things should be attended to without your guests having to do it themselves.
I do want to give a shout out to Joaquin in the cafe too. We had a gift certificate and we decided to eat there for dinner. After having seafood and fancy food all week, I really just wanted something simple like a burger. You will not get that in this cafe without asking for it apparently. It is not on the menu, and we were going to walk out because there just wasnt a regular meal that we wanted that wasnt $35 a plate, when Joaquin asked us what it is that we wanted he had it made for us! How about that!? He was awesome! We were able to get what we wanted after almost walking out. The burger was pretty amazing by the way. So Thank you to Joaquin for that.
So, is this a nice place to stay? Yes. Is it right on the beach? Yes! Is the price right? Not so much anymore! Not for what you are getting. I might think about staying in another hotel next year. Just not sure.
Thank you again so much to Latina. She is the only reason our stay was great this year, because had she not done what she did for us, I am not sure we would have gotten a room there this year. Lesson learned, when booking through Best Western.com you should call the hotel directly and verify everything! « less

This Best Western shouldn't be called a 'plus' the only plus was the stunning beach views. We had a first floor room facing the water, apparently the bottom floor rooms are pet friendly. Carpets in the room were disgusting, we were afraid to sleep in the bed, the room smelt musky and wet. It just didn't feel clean. Bathroom was small but surprisingly clean.
We stayed at the end of March so the weather was quite cool. I can guarantee a lot of bugs in those rooms in the summertime. I wouldn't stay again the crowd was a very weird group of people as well. « less

Very pleasant experience with my sister from the south. We rode bikes, had great meals in the restaurant and got alot of good rest. The weather was gorgeous 5/3/2013-5/8/2013. The service at the restaurant was very good especially Joaquin who took care of us one of the evenings. The staff at the front desk were friendly and helpful bringing us extra blankets and helping us get bikes to enjoy the coast trail. The only suggestion I have is to add towel racks and hooks to use. We were two women and had very little space to lay out our makeup and hair products and very limited towel racks. The mirror was nice however. Thanks to all the staff for a great worry free stay. « less

My wife and I have stayed at the Best Western Beach Resort Monterey a couple of times now. This last time it was for her birthday in late March 2013 and it was her birthday present. This is a GREAT PLACE to stay, very quiet, beautiful views of the beach and Monterey Bay. The room was great, the staff very friendly and this time we brought our bikes along and went biking along the trail in front of the hotel, all the way down past the wharf. It is a great place , comfortable beds and my wife and I really loved the little bamboo coconut shampoo in the room. We are making this a regular place for a get away ! Rick M. « less

This is my third time here and for the most part I had another great experience. My husband and I were celebrating our 1st anniversary and when we got to the room we found a complimentary bottle of wine from the hotel. This was very nice of them! I was a little disappointed that we had a first floor room as there is a wall between the window and the ocean. You can still see the ocean, there is a just a small wall obstructing part of it. Last time I was here I had a room on the second floor and it was definitely a better view. I did ask if they could switch rooms and they said that we probably could the next day as we came very late in the evening. We decided not to change rooms as it didn't seem worth the hassle. Now here is my major complaint- the bed! It was sooo uncomfortable. As I said I have stayed here on two previous occasions and I do not remember the bed being uncomfortable. I am not sure if the beds are the same in all rooms but this bed kept us tossing and turning all night. Our necks and backs were aching all day after sleeping in this bed. I was really disappointed as I have made this hotel my hotel of choice when coming to Monterrey, but it may be time for me to search for another hotel. Being that uncomfortable just isn't worth it to me. Now if I ever find out they updated there mattresses I will be back in a heartbeat. They have such a wonderful staff, and we also enjoyed room service breakfast one morning enjoying looking out at the ocean. The uncomfortable bed really is the only negative I experienced while staying at this hotel. « less
