DO NOT STAY HERE! If I could give it less than 1 star, I would. I booked this hotel through a third-party travel website (http://booking.com) and I had no idea how horrible this place would be...
The location is the reason we chose this hotel and it's a good location in San Diego, but that doesn't make up for the horrid state of the room.
The air conditioning wasn't working (in the middle of the summer), the walls were paper-thin and you could hear everything on the street, the bedding was dirty with visible stains, but the kicker was the FECES left in the toilet when we checked in the room. Let me repeat that- THERE WERE FECES IN THE TOILET WHEN WE WALKED INTO THE ROOM.
Clearly they don't clean the place well and we walked out just as fast as we came in. In dealing with the manager (Lila Patel) to try to get a refund for this horrid "hotel", she refused and instead charged us IN FULL for our stay, citing some fine print of course.
Not only did she do this, but she subsequently LIED to the http://booking.com representative that I had contacted to deal with the matter and she told them we didn't want to stay there because we had an event on Coronado Island to be at and it was too far away because it was "45 minutes away from the island". Yes, there was an event on Coronado we had to go to but...HELLO- you advertise on your OWN website you are 15 minutes from Coronado...because you are!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not only was the hotel in a state of disrepute, but it is run by liars who care more about making money than good customer service.
As you can tell, this was not a pleasant experience and at least http://booking.com offered a gesture of goodwill and refunded me their 20% cut for having the hotel on their website. « less

Stayed here for 8 nights starting mid-March. This hotel is only a few minutes and $10 taxi ride from the San Diego International Airport. Grape Street is basically the northern border of Little Italy.
We were given a room on the second floor facing Columbia St, so it got noisy, but you can't beat the convenience. Within walking distance of the hotel, there is a 7-11, a cigar shop, an Argentinian steakhouse, car rentals, real estate shops, the Mona Lisa Italian market/restaurant/takeout. And all this just north of Grape St. South of Grape is Little Italy with restaurants that have been there since Giovanni and his wife arrived from Naples in the early 1900s.
Breakfast is basic and simple - go down to the office/lobby area to get coffee, toast or waffles. No tea, no cereal and no fruit. They do a good job of keeping these basics supplied in the face of a full hotel.
This hotel must have been a reincarnation of a La Quinta or something. The furnishings all have the look and feel of a chain hotel. The beds, however, were firm and comfortable, although the pillows were too soft for me. Nice flat screen tv with cable. The best part is free WiFi in the room so I could use my Kindle without any trouble.
There is an extra per day charge if you have a pet or if you want a safe in your room. I think that's sticking it to the guests, but since we didn't have a pet or wanted a safe, we were ok.
The hallway on the second floor has old carpeting and has an old, tired smell of feet. It would be nice if they cleaned it once in a while.
Little Italy is the area between the airport and downtown. We walked everywhere. Visited the USS Midway one day. Walked to the Gaslamp District another day. There is also a trolley stop. It's the Green Line that started at the Santa Fe Depot, with stops in Old Town (a must see), Qualcomm Stadium, El Cajon and a final stop in Santee.
All in all, we would recommend this place to others, if you just want a basic bed and bathroom ater long days enjoying everything San Diego has to offer. « less

I reserved a room at this place, on the 19th and the 20th of march, 2013. When I first checked in, they assigned me to a room on the 4th floor. I went to the room and opened the door and there was someone sleep in the bed and someone else in the restroom. I apologized and immediately went back to the front desk with my complaint.
After assigning me to a 1st floor room (room 104), I took my belongings there and went out to eat. In the middle of the night on my first night there, I saw a bed bug crawling towards my arm. I immediately got up and I discovered several more bed bugs on me. I went to the night attendant and told him. He acted as if he couldn't speak english nor understand my complaint. I told him that this was not over and asked him to call his manager. He pretended to call and said that the manager wouldn't answer his phone.
I went back to the room and started packing my bags. After packing my bags, I went back to this guy and asked him to call his manager again. He refused and when I asked for his name, he said Bob. Needless to say, there is no Bob that works there.
Be warned people. This place is infested with bed bugs and that is the last thing you want to bring home with you. It cost me 250.00 to have a company come to my home and inspect my home for bed bugs. I had to pay them also to treat my luggage and car for bed bugs.
STAYING AT THIS PLACE IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY YOU'RE GOING TO SPEND TO RID YOUR LUGGAGE, CAR AND HOME OF BED BUGS. « less

The mattress was super hard which I didn't like. The room was a bit small for the 3 of us. « less

Yes this hotel is a smaller hotel and we are limited with our rooms as we have 42 rooms. We do fill up fast and sometimes this makes it difficult to switch our patrons to a different rooms that may be better accommodations for them. Sorry for the tight squeeze! We appreciate your business and hope that you will come back to stay with us in the future. Thanks Again!

We are very sorry for any inconvenience you encountered while staying with us. I have personally surveyed these rooms on a regular basis and they are kept clean and cleaned each and every time a guest has stayed. Our guests have asked for renovations and we are happily accommodating them, We have updated our bathrooms with very nice new tile and new carpets in the rooms and comfortable beds etc. We do survey the hotel often and make any repairs we encounter. There is no good time for renovations and we are doing our best to make this hotel as comfortable as possible. Our website pictures are reflective of our rooms. We are very sorry your expectations weren't met.
