This is an ostentatious hotel that looks fancy but isn't worth the cost. Here's an example - like most expensive hotels, they charge you an arm and a leg for Internet access, while mid-level hotels offer it free. But worse - the download speed for the $12 expense was 1.02 mbps! Unbelievable that they could even find a router that crappy these days. The bed sheets were rumpled, the view out the window was of an asphalt roof with a beer bottle lying near the water drain, while our bell hop said as we walked in, "And you have a private balcony!" It had one chair... Next time if I want to lounge on my private balcony overlooking an asphalt roof for $200 a night, I'll get a Motel 6 room and save $150. The food was similarly overpriced for limited quality - $20 for breakfast buffet - scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, oatmeal.... « less

The only down side that I could possibly express about this hotel is the valet parking charges $24 a day is a bit much. Right that's the gripes out of the way. We arrived early, a little after noon, not expecting to be checked in, but we were straight away and we were upgraded to a suite, and what an amazing room. We had our own door bell, an entrance hall a small bathroom for the use of our guests, should we have any. The hall opened up into a wonderful sitting room, and then a dining room and in the other direction a huge bedroom. The decor was classy and tasteful and the furniture all top quality. We had three balconies one in each of the main rooms, with great views over the sea and the city. The bathroom was all marble and the complimentary toiletries were all top drawer. We ordered room service and the food arrived promptly and was hot, and again superb quality. There was a turn down service along with the obligatory chocolates, but an added bonus of a beautiful cast metal Ritz Carlton keyring (nice touch). The grounds were a pleasure to walk around very green and floral, over looking a small harbor area. Every member of staff we came into contact with was polite and courteous, and a huge thank you to Lorna for the upgrade. If you are in Sarasota and you want to treat yourself, then this is the hotel to stay at. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again. « less

Although I stayed here on and off since it first opened we had always stayed on Longboat Key to be on the beach, but when the Colony went downhill we decided to look elsewhere for a regular place to stay and this is it. We have had both normal rooms and suites, always clean and spacious with all amenities. We have always been given a view of the marina. On arrival and during our stay we found all the staff to be courteous and friendly, the shops are fun and the breakfast well, you will have to control yourself or you will be bouncing out of the door from all the food. There is also a good well equipped gym and if you are feeling really energetic you can walk the bridge and take in the early morning views. My only inconvenience because I am a beach lover is not being able to just walk out on to the beach, you have to either get the shuttle every 30 mins or drive to the beach club on Lido Key. (They do valet park your car though so that makes it easier). The beach club has everything to make your visit comfortable, nice ocean view restaurant, changing rooms, pool-side service (Although I don't sit by the pool unless we want a drink as the ocean and the beach beckons), driving to the beach is not quite the same as just walking to it from your room. However, this said I have tried some of the other hotels and this in my opinion is the best hotel to stay in when visiting Sarasota. I did read the gentleman's review regarding his late stay communication problem, I have never encountered this as I have had a late stay granted everytime just by calling down to the front desk on the morning of departure. The golf club is a drive a way but is worth it and they have a great golf pro there called Glen. Last thing there is also a cool little beach bar next to the Ritz on the beach!! Our experience at the Ritz has always been good - Enjoy your stay. « less

Testimonials: Why use Hotel Planner?
"Thank you so much for an amazing website. I had a very short time frame to manage a bus tour of 45. I needed hotels and banquets in less than 10 days. The destination was West Palm Beach - high season - and effectively sold-out. Within two hours I had responses back from three available hotels within my price range. I was able to sign a contract within 24 hours and manage the rest of the program. I continue to be impressed with your concept and will be a frequent user of your site." L.B. - Grand Rapids, MI
"Thank you very much for all your assistance/followups. Our meeting went very well. The ease of using your site was just GREAT! It made my job so much easier. Everyone was very pleased with the location and accomodations of the hotel selected. I will recommend you to anyone I know that books meetings within our organization. It's a good site."
