Cavallo Point is a great place to relax and absorb the beauty of the SF Bay. There is just one minor problem that the hotel doesn't tell its' hotel customers. The Golden Gate Bridge, which sits at the foot of Cavallo Point, has three fog horns located at center pier and two more at the south tower pier. As the fog rolls into the bay, the three horns at mid-span sound as two blasts. The following sequence was learned after three straight hours of listening to these horns blare in the wee hours of the night. First there is two blasts: A 9 second pause starts the sequence, followed by a 1 second fog horn blast, then 2 seconds fog horns are off, then 1 second fog horns blast, then 36 seconds fog horns are off, then 1 second fog horns blast, then 2 seconds horns are off, then 1 second horns blast, then 36 seconds horns are off.
Of course, fog doesn’t always roll into the Bay area. But do you want to take that chance? « less

Dear Valued Guest,
Thank you for your post.
We sincerely appreciate your comments and wanted to address your concerns regarding the fog horns.
Currently, we are experiencing mostly sunny weather, as the foggy days are increasingly few and far between. However, I understand that while some guests find the fog horns to be a comforting and soothing sound, other guests may have their sleep disturbed. For the convenience of all guests, we do provide earplugs in the rooms should they have a need for them.
Once again thank you for your feed back, if there is any further assistance that I can provide, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at euan@cavallopoint.com. I would be happy to dicuss your experience in further detail and and answer any questions you may still have.
Thank you.
Best regards,

I read all of the rave reviews before booking this hotel for my husband and me. Not my experience. Stunning location, awful room, worse parking. After dragging our bags across a long gravel parking lot and a wood-chipped path we then carried the bags upstairs. We were told that one of their many golf carts would assist us, but the bellperson basically gave us a map and that was it. Where to begin on the room? Very cheap décor, all laminate, all the time. I'm all for eco-friendly, but not eco as an excuse for cheap. You literally have to crawl under the desktop/counter to use the electric plugs. The water in the mini-fridge is a small Britta pitcher. I didn't trust the sanitation enough to drink it, especially since they offer used slippers in the closet. Another issue is the height of the tub/shower, which needs a step stool for people under 5'6". The exterior is straight out of the early 70s, with frosted glass side panels by the front door, which when backlit allow you to see into other people's rooms. Not good. If you choose to stay here, don't stay in the contemporary housing. I travel all the time for business, and do my homework about where to stay. This was the most disappointing stay I've ever had. « less

This historical property, a former Coast Guard base, has spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay and the San Francisco skyline. You can stay in former officers' quarters (we did) or in their newer rooms. The officers' quarters look out over the open Parade Grounds for a sublimely relaxing view. The staff was very attentive and the restaurants was terrific. « less

We treated yourself to a hotel out of town after staying for the first part of our stay in motels. It is a lovely location, isolated with a great view of the golden gate bridge. Reception service was awesome from the moment we drove up. The rooms are spacious and well decorated. Breakfast was very good indeed, it is a well run ship at breakfast time. Dinner in the casual dining area could do with some improvement, the service was slow and we needed to repeat ourselves before we got our drinks. Sadly for us (and this us not the hotel's fault) the fog rolled in, and throughout the night we heard the fog horns from the ships. Overall, if I was wanting a hotel out of town in Sf, I would recommend. « less
