This is a wonderful Hotel. It is tucked away and easy to miss. It actually felt like a treasure to find. My wife and I stayed here for a quick get away and were sad to leave. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The decor is very nice. It almost feels like a spa hotel. The rooms had an Asian inspired feel with wood floors. Little fountain in the front area of Hotel was a very nice touch and even though it was close to the hospital it was very quiet. Breakfast in the mornings was served in a very warm atmosphere as well as tasty. Loved the tonics that were in the fridge to purchase in the rooms. Very refreshing. « less

The Ambrose Hotel in Santa Monica is a beautiful hotel and so, so fun! I stayed with my partner for three nights while celebrating my daughter's birthday and we couldn't have had a better time. The staff were super friendly and had lots of good suggestions for restaurants, bike rides, and walks in the neighborhood. The hotel is a beautiful building and it looks like a home tucked away on a side street off busy boulevards. The rooms are gorgeous, quiet and very comfortable. One of the best perks is that the hotel has bicycles for guests to use...for free!! We rode all over Santa Monica, on the beach bike trail and during one of our rides, we stopped at the Santa Monica Bike Center to rent two more bikes for my daughter and her friend. The bike guy at the Bike Center couldn't believe that The Ambrose had free bike use for their guests...he said that he didn't know any other hotel in the area that had that kind of wonderful services for their guests! The Ambrose is a perfect launching spot to explore other parts of Los Angeles, too( we went to the Farmer's Market, Melrose, Beverly Hills, a Dodger game)...but you will be SO happy to come back to your little gem of a hotel in Santa Monica after a long day of exploring!! We will definately be back to The Ambrose every time we visit Los Angeles!! « less

The Ambrose hotel is beautiful and has so much to offer. The rooms are comfortable with the feel of home and the staff goes out of their way to make your stay even better. I loved the healthy choices for breakfast and the neighborhood is quiet and welcoming.The beach is within walking distance, there are so many great resteraunts within walking distance also. I have found my home away from home staying at the Ambrose Hotel. The rooms are big, the beds are comfortable and the location has so much to offer. Most of all, everything was clean!! I did feel at home and would have no trouble staying longer on my next trip. Thank you Ambrose!! « less

Surprisingly quiet (unexpected given the hospital across the way), with a neighborhood feel, this hotel actually feels like you're staying at a friends home, rather than a hotel. The TVs are in desperate need of replacing (they're the old fashioned kind), and if you like a soft pillow, bring your own (they offer a "feather" pillow, but it's not much softer than the one on the bed). Very nice to have free parking, wifi and breakfast, and also nice to have the complimentary car to the Promenade or the Getty or up to Montana Avenue (although that's a quick walk up the street).
I live nearby but had always been curious about this hotel since I advise travelers here on where to stay, so we did a weekend getaway and I thought this hotel might be a bit out of the way from the downtown area, but it isn't - not at all. It's quite convenient, in fact.
Interesting list of restaurants provided by the hotel (in the room, there's a thorough book of FAQs and insider info), although some of them have long closed, and some great places are missing from the list - it, too, needs updating. « less

If you are looking for a small inn out of the hustle and bustle of LA, The Ambrose is the perfect option for you. Some of the plusses: walking distance to the beach (2 miles) and great restaurants, a delicious complimentary breakfast with delicious pastries, muffins, yogurt and fruit, quiet (did I say QUIET in LA?!), nice hotel staff, calming rooms and atmosphere....Convenient to the 405 and 10. « less
