Hotel Diva strives to provide great service and comfortable accommodations, in a highly desired area of SF, at a reasonable price. You can't go wrong! This is a renovated building, it's not swanky but it has been beautifully renovated! For others complaining, quite frankly they're crazy!
We actually stumbled upon hotel diva out of desperation. We booked a room in the unfortunate Union Square Plaza Hotel, took 2 steps in our pee smelling, paint peeling, carpet stained, 1960s bedding, disgusting room and immediately started calling other hotels in the area...I was not going to stay there.
Hotel Diva happened to be next door, had a room available, looked nice from the outside (I noticed when walking by to go to our disgusting hotel) and was only $80 more than the funk nasty place. We took it and figured it couldn't be worse than funk nasty.
The front desk gal immediately knew who I was when we walked in. She greeted us with a large smile and assured me they'd do whatever they could to make our stay enjoyable. She was helpful answering all our questions, asked a variety of ways they could accommodate us and sent us up to our room.
Our room was clean, quiet, working television, appliances and everything else needed. The bed was comfortable, the shower worked properly...everything was perfect. For the price, the room is a decent size. A family of 4 may be cramped but it was great for the 2 of us with plenty of space. We had a view of the theater across the street and loved watching the street traffic while imbibing from the complementary sake bar (downstairs, we brought it up) before hitting the town.
Every time we entered or exited the hotel, reception was upbeat, friendly and welcomed us back and offered assistance with anything needed. « less

Hi - I write to you from the perspective of a world traveler. My jet-setting days have come to a halt, but yeah, I love me some TRAVEL when I can...I was looking forward to my 2-night stay in San Francisco. And to be be honest, the Hotel Diva made my trip that much more special. And the Hotel Diva in combination with the CITY, made me feel alive. Like I was in some deeply-rooted trance. My travel and stay was romanticized. The CITY, my hotel room - it was MAGICAL.
But the trance started even before I arrived. I was in talks with Marilyn Perry (director of sales) and Janelle Granfors about my accommodations. Let just say they are the epitome of customer service. They are EVERYTHING and I do mean EVERYTHING that represents excellent customer service and the very reason why I am writing this obnoxious review. They made me feel special. Do you know that feeling? Well, they made it happen. So, thank you, Marilyn and Janelle. I hope karma pays you back. I hope your boss reads this at the very least.
Anyway, the building is beautiful. Just has tremendous appeal. It was a white exterior with a black trim - something like that. Just exquisite. Once you walk in the building you realize that the lobby alone, is like from the future. Was I time warped to 2056? Also, free sake hour at 6? Yes please. I'll have 4 or 5 of those, thanks.
I was greeted and checked in by suuuuuuuuuper sweet people.
Hotel Diva is located in the HEART of the city. Seriously, the location is the best. I mean, I was in walking distance to pretty much EVERYTHING. The location, again, CANT BE BEAT.
My room: I was on the Salon floor. Wow. My room was just perfect. SUPER MODERN. My bed was extremely comfortable. My bed was made out of God? Who knows. It was that comfortable. The room was very spacious. Everything was sleek. It pretty much had everything that I could ever need plus more. They even provided chocolates and a bottle of bub. Again, the room was perfect and the pictures on the site are accurate.
I am not sure what else I can say...but what I can tell you that you should take my feedback seriously. I care deeply about consumers - as I spend my money wisely - and you wont have regrets with your purchasing dollars. Book here. That simple.
You are going to love your room. You are going to love the service. You are going to love the location.
More recs: Make sure to visit the SF Symphony, SFMOMA, Hayes Valley, make sure to eat at Brenda's French Soul Food, make sure to eat at LUCE, make sure to drink your heart out at the Absinthe Bar, make sure to Visit Berkeley (GO BEARS, class of 2005).
And again, thank you - thank you - thank you - thank you, Marilyn. YOU truly are the best.

Well this was the final destination of our multi- center holiday to the West Coast. Upon landing at the airport late evening after a tedious flight from Hawaii the entertainment started pretty much straight away in the baggage reclaim hall when two gentlemen started squaring up to one another over some issue about one being in the way, so the other could not get a full view of the conveyor belt. Priceless stuff which involved a bit of shouting and puffing out of chests then a meddling third party got involved and calmed it all down. Damn....that's the entertainment finished then.
OK, San Francisco can be a tad chilly at night so if you are flying in around that time from a hotter climate be prepared. Anyhooo.....we awaited our pre planned shuttle and sure enough it was not long before we started the epic journey up to San Francisco. It's not the quickest of journey's, especially when there are a few drop offs on the way.
The Diva Hotel is exactly where the other reviewers say it is located and check-in, as long as you are expecting to be dealt with like any other guest, is a pleasant and informative procedure. To be honest I was over tired, niggly and my bladder needed purging (typical British afflictions) to even contemplate what was being advised/discussed. The very pleasant lady on the desk possibly sensed this and mentioned it was probably better to discuss what the City has to offer when we were 'settled in'. I concurred. 10/10 for a very enthusiastic welcome though.
However, we were in need of alcohol and possibly food, but she was honest enough to let us know that at that time of night most eateries of any reputable existence would be in the process of closing up for the night. Took her advice and we took in a couple of beers at a nice bar just down the road which just about finished the day off......bedtime!!!
Lets all be brutally honest. We all have so many expectations of what to accept as 'a nice room'. This is so easy. Before you book this place, look on the internet and look at where you are thinking of staying. Look at the spec......is it what you want? Yes? Then do not be too surprised if it turns out to be what you paid for. Do not have the misguided belief that you will get an automatic upgrade just because you think you can. Is it so difficult? The Diva is The Diva, it is exactly what it looks like in the photo's. Guess what, there are more opulent hotels in San Francisco, we live in a democratic society.
I can assure you that any of the positive comments made on this site about this establishment are correct. This hotel still has the 'attention to detail' clause to those visiting during a birthday/anniversary. There was small bottle of fizz and a card waiting for my girlfriend in the room wishing her well on her birthday. Nice touch and thank you.
You are located right in the middle of it all. Yes, please take previous advice.......take the option of the Bus Tour rather than the local public transport if you are alien to the City. Yes, it's about $50 per person but at least you will be told where you are and whats of interest. In other words geared up for the tourist. What a great idea. And guess what??? It goes everywhere, get on/get off where you like, all done in a day and it's safe!!! Any other time, for a short hop take a taxi, they are quite reasonably priced.
Alcatraz was a great day out. Hint for us Brits. Book your tickets in advance of your arrival, on the internet. It is straight forward and you walk straight onto the ferry opposed to lining up with the hoards.
There are theatre's directly opposite this hotel. We got to see the Jersey Boys on their last but one night before they left San Francisco for pastures new. Thought absolutely nothing of Frankie Valli let alone his Four Seasons until I saw this show. Tis good!! Go see it if it's happening in place near you.
The costs of eating and drinking in San Francisco are quite acceptable, and there is a multitude of places to eat. The Cheese Cake Factory located on the top floor of Macy's appears to be popular. Get there very early to avoid a long wait or even in some cases disappointment. Obviously weekends are very busy as San Francisco knows how to socialize.
Crime: Yes, Diva is located within walking distance of the less 'friendlier' area of San Francisco, but then again Union Square as a whole is as well. If you do not want to witness the seedier side of life do not go down that end of town, and it could be construed as common sense to be back at your hotel, safe asleep in the wee small hours rather than walking the streets. Just like the advise we give to those living in the UK. In saying that, I witnessed the police playing hide and seek with quite a number of the 'undesirables' making a pain of themselves in shop doorways. The police won every time.
If you have any problems at all during your stay here, the staff will sort it out for you and they do not expect any reward for it. However, it's rude not to show appreciation and they appreciate any recognition that they have done a good job. At one point the Concierge challenged us to find him a problem/enigma for him to find a solution to. We lost the challenge, he gained a tip at the end of our stay. Talking of the end.....it had to happen I suppose, the check out plain and simple, then picked up for the airport on time. Home now........bummer!
Please take my word for it, the Diva is an ideal base when visiting this City, just make sure you are 100% happy with what you see on the Hotel Diva Web Site before committing yourself. That way you will not be disappointed.
Thanks for reading this and I just know if you are visiting this place anytime soon, you will enjoy it. « less

The staff is very helpful and the rooms have modern decor and are a very decent size for the price. I am from SF and would have clients stay here, also. All have had rave reviews of their stay. « less

We spent the first 3 nights here of our west coast trip here and this set the expectation of the rest of the holiday!
We were greeted by friendly staff and were given a room at the back of the hotel, whilst it was quieter than the front, there were a few air con units that were noisy. The room itself exceeded my expectations as it was very spacious for a city hotel and was very well decorated and contained all of the modern amenities that you'd expect.
The location was excellent, it was within a minute walk of Union Square and therefore all other areas of the city were easily accessible via the tram or busses.
I would definitely recommend staying here for anyone who's visiting San Fran for the first time and want a centralised location at a reasonable price. « less
