As a yachtie who has lived in their fair share in crew houses over the years, I must say that Mary's has been the best I've stayed at. The houses she operates are always clean and tidy as well as the internet being fantastic. I have very much enjoyed staying here and would recommend it to anyone who plans on spending time in Fort Lauderdale. « less

My husband and I and my two daughters ages 5 and 3 just came back after staying for a week. We absolutely loved it! We stayed in the sapodilla house which fit us perfect. The grounds were very nice and private with lots of palm trees and plants....lots of privacy.Nothing was broken. John was managing the property at the time and made sure we were taken care of...he was awesome....so Keith if you are reading this give him a pat on the back! Its too bad he is moving. Pool and hot tub were great...hot tub turns on at 7pm everyday since its hot during daytime. The beach is about 10 minutes away. Not in the greatest neighborhood but it did not matter. Its almost like the property is hidden and blocked by a gate with a security code. So much better than staying in a hotel....especially if you have kids. This is the first time I took a vacation and did not say at the end that Im ready to go home. I wish we could have stayed longer! « less

Feel like we were scammed!
The communication with the owner from the start was difficult and not like any I have had with our multiple stays through Home Away. Thinking not everyone is the same, friendly and organized, I tried to look past the unprofessional replies I would get when asking a question like "what would the total cost be for our stay?" I got this reply.....my nightly rate is $235 do the math". I had to reach out to him numerous times asking for the details to enter the house prior to our arrival and after a many attempts finally got it. Keith was at the property when we arrived but all we saw was him running by to his car.... we didn't even receive "Hi I'm Keith sorry I’m in a rush but glad to have your business hope you enjoy your stay" nothing ... who does that? The hot tub was one of the primary reasons we chose this place, and was broken for the entire stay. Some sort of credit for that would have been an unexpected but nice business gesture, but instead it went the other way entirely.
After one day of being at the place I received an email from Keith stating he did his math wrong and would need additional $156 from me. My response was that I signed an agreement and paid in full the total that was on our agreement weeks ago and felt that he should honor the agreement. That didn't make a difference. He took the money out of the security deposit despite that his rental agreement stated “that the security deposit will not be used towards rent”. When I questioned him on it he would not let me get a word in and then proceeded to hang up on me.
How this man has continues to have any renters any business with his lack of professionalism is beyond me. We felt scammed with the old bait and switch with his ..... Oops my math was incorrect now I need more money from you! Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! I would not stay here if I were you. « less

I am very sorry to see that Tiffani S. was so disappointed with her stay. After reading her review, I feel it necessary to respond.
Regarding communications: I just counted and there were a total of 31 email exchanges between myself and Tiffani regarding her 3-night rental. Each email and phone call was responded to promptly.
Regarding the Jacuzzi: There was an issue with the circuit breaker which powers the blower/jets. This problem was resolved soon after it was reported to the pool contractor. Although a slight inconvenience, this feature would not classify the Jacuzzi as "broken."
Regarding rates: I quoted the SAME rate, taxes and fees in emails as advertised. Tiffany agreed to the posted and quoted rates. The "error" occurred when I manually added the columns (rental rate, tax and fees.) There was a $144 error in the TOTAL. This was an honest mistake, which only effected the TOTAL and NOT the actual charges. After several failed attempts to discuss the error, I sent her a detailed email, explaining what had happened.
I encourage you to read through the many reviews posted on tTrip Advisor to get a complete overview of Mary's Resort.

We just returned from a three day, post cruise stay, at Mary's Resort. As others have indicated, upon entering the privacy gates, an oasis awaits. The grounds are absolutely beautiful with natural gardens surrounding the pool/hot tub area. Although apparently fully booked, we only ran into one other couple while there. The mahogany suite was nicely decorated and appeared to be very clean. However, the A/C system was inadequate at best and thankfully was supplemented by a ceiling fan. There is no property manager on site and should an emergency arise be prepared to use your cell phone to contact someone. The owner has stated that he does not see the need for land lines when everyone has a cell phone. We are a senior couple and during the third night of our stay, the smoke alarm started blaring around 4:30 a.m. After making sure there was not actually a fire, my 70 year old husband climbed up on a chair to try to disarm the alarm. The blaring ceased but the alarm continued to beep intermittently. After about 45 minutes he decided to switch the battery with the one in the fan. This seemed to alleviate the problem. I immediately emailed the resort to tell them of the situation and to request compensation for 1 night's lost sleep. I didn't feel right phoning them at that hour. After more than a day passed, I finally heard from the owner who told me there would be no compensation as "things happen". If you are looking for a rustic holiday in a camping environment, then this may be the place for you. We will not be staying there again! « less

I'd like to start out by thanking you for choosing Mary's Resort for your 3-night post-cruise stay. From what I can gather from your review on Trip Advisor and the emails you sent, you had a great stay until the smoke alarm went off on your last morning.
I am very sorry for that interruption. As I stated in my initial email response, I tried to duplicate the problem and was unable to. To this date, the smoke detector has not gone off again and it still operates properly when you press the test button. Initially, I asked if you had a candle burning or possibly smoked in the room. Based on your email response, my questions insulted you and your husband. For that, I am sorry. Those questions were to help rule out possible causes for the detector to go off.
Regarding the Air Conditioning: This is the very first time I heard a complaint from you. The unit is nearly new and operated by a remote control, which is located on the wall. Guests are able to raise or lower the temperature, as well as fan speed. Our in-room guide has complete instructions.
We do not have an on-site manager 24-hours a day. Someone is always very close, within minutes if there is an emergency situation. We post an emergency number in the in-room guide and in several other places throughout the property. This guest stated that she didn't want to bother anyone at that hour, so having a "land line" in the room would not have made a difference in this case. After our renovation, we decided not to have "land lines" because nearly every guest prefers to use his or her cell phone. Initially, we had guest cell phones, but after months where no one wanted them, we discontinued that option. This guest did have a cell phone and used it to call me when she first arrived.
In conclusion, after three email exchanges with this guest, I did not feel that refunding her stay was warranted. She demanded a refund in her first email and in each follow-up email seemed to become more and more angry because I didn't immediately refund her stay. Last, we are a 4-star rated property with very reasonable rates and great service.
Comparing Mary's Resort to "a rustic holiday in a camping environment" is not an accurate description of my property. I encourage all readers to look at a variety of the reviews to get a full picture of what to expect if you choose to stay with us.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 days during a recent getaway to FLL and MIA. Our other friends stayed at the W. We could not have been happier with our choice. The property is in great condition and because there are only a few suites, everyone is very friendly to each other. Property is very quiet and you feel like you are getting away to a tropical oasis. We will definitely be back. « less
