We found the Hotel Fifty a very nice place to stay, with exceptionally helpful people to make the visit more personal. The rooms were comfortable but our side did not have a view, room 437. Breakfast and lunch were excellent and a reasonable price. Bed was big and very comfortable.
Portland's Hotel Fifty has rooms a bit on the small size and the bathroom shower sprays on the floor quite a bit which was a bit slippery beyond the floor mat. One elevator was quite cranky but my quess is it will be fixed soon, « less

I attended a conference at Hilton and was only able to get the discounted group rate from Hilton for 2 nights. I relocated to Hotel Fifty for the other 2 nights. I was very pleased with my stay at Hotel Fifty. It was just a comfortable as Hilton and it included free water, and free internet service. The staff we extremely friendly and accommodating. I will definitely stay here again. « less

Older refurbed hotel situated right on the river. Nice to watch life go by from the restaurant! It is obviously a lot of work went into upgrading this hotel. Not spanking new but nicely decorated. Bed really comfortable and great location for walking to the Hilton convention center - 5 blocks easy walk. Very friendly and helpful staff. Free wifi and access to exercise facility at 24 hr fitness. Parking is a bit pricey at $24 a day - but since you can walk everywhere or grab the metro it saves a lot in parking and other costs of having a car to take car of. « less

I stayed with my husband on a business trip so cannot comment on value but location was key being right on the edge of downtown and next to the river which is perfect for going for a run. Easy walk right into the heart of downtown, then over to the Pearl District. Rooms are a bit small but very comfortable. There is a bit of noise from the metro so opt for a room on a higher floor. Check in was a breeze and the staff made helpful suggestions and affirmations on restaurant choices. This is a small footprint hotel with a small lobby/reception area. Housekeeping is around and seemed respectful without being annoying or intrusive. « less

This is a difficult review for me as my experience is mixed from reserving to staying to checking out.
Reservation: Was trying to book a 2 night stay using a groupon. Was having trouble booking a Fri/Sat night stay for several weekends. Called and was told I could only reserve a room online. Hung up and called again, got someone else....referred me to the "manager" who was of no help. His solution was to use the 199 paid as credit toward a one night stay and pay difference on a 225 room. No thanks. Was planning to use this with a friend for a girls weekend so it was a bust for that purpose. Ended up reserving a Sat/Sun stay with my hubby and child and since the reservation process was such a pain with so few rooms/date combos actually available just picked the first dates the system let me reserve. Unimpressed and sure felt like I was scammed for lack of better word
Stay: Pleasant at check in and offered a no-charge upgrade to a River View Room with 2 beds vs 1 king. Doubles vs King but this ended up working better for us given the age of our child. Rooms were clean and nicely decorated...fabulous beds and nicely updated bathrooms with modern touches. River View rooms are supposedly quieter but there was a LOT of road noise from SW Naito that we kept checking to make sure the window was closed. This didn't affect our sleeping so it's not a huge deal to us. Rooms were quiet unlike other reviewers have stated but maybe we had no neighbors. Excellent location. Room service was prompt and staff member who delivered was so courteous and friendly. Location couldn't be beat and we opted to park on street the Sat night and paid in the garage for Sunday night. Walked everywhere. Property has two (small) elevators but it seemed only one was working. Had to wait several times for the elevator to come up empty so we could get to the basement with our luggage and tot in stroller
Checkout: Room service charge was $20 higher than expected. Went to front desk and saw the Manager I remembered specifically talking to during the reservation process who was not much help for this issue either. HIs solution was to "look into it and email " me which to me translated into "I don't have time for this so maybe you'll forget it about it by the time you get home". He was kind but honestly should have done more to resolve the problem. No worries though...I sent my hubby back. He got someone else who helped immediately and we found the discrepancy was an incorrect price on the wine. She fixed it quickly and we were on our way.
Overall: Nice room, location, staff for the most part but it's hard to say if we'll be back. I was hoping to give Hotel Fifty another shot when our check in and stay were good but overall the full experience was a little rough around the edges. « less
