While the rugs look "aged", the room was well equipped and clean. As other reviews have noted, the pool is open only to paying guests, and guests of guests are not welcomed, even when the pool is otherwise vacant. We enjoyed our stay, but thought the rules on the common area could use some refreshing (or politing). I suspect when the hotel is full, this policing is important, so maybe it's also a case of being gracious when you can, and strict when you have no choice. « less

The hotel is a bit older, but for the most part, well maintained. The bathrooms are where you see most of the age. They do provide a refrigerator and two complimentary bottles of water in the room. The beds were comfortable and the TV was nice.
We stayed on the first floor near the pool area. Apparently it is very popular on the weekends. From 8 am to 11pm, the pool area was filled with families. It is very loud and pretty crowded. We could hear everything from our room, even with the bathroom fan and air conditioner/heater running. They provide wristbands for you to wear so it doesn't get crowded with people sneaking in/not staying at the property, but there wasn't really anyone checking them.
The breakfast was mediocre. There was waffle batter to make waffles, as well as muffins and other sorts of prepackaged breakfast items.
The front desk was very friendly and made it easy to check in. The maid came at 9:30am one morning while we were still getting ready. We asked her to come back later that day, but she never did. « less

I stayed at the Grandvillage Inn several years ago on business and when I returned this year not much had changed, which could be a bit of a problem going forward. Fortunately, cleanliness and a solid staff make up for a somewhat dated feel. And, that's important. I am not a hotel snob. While I can appreciate the new and up-to-date, I have three primary things I look at in a hotel: Cleanliness. This tops the list; Comfort; and service. While the Grandvillage Inn definitely has a feel of yesteryear in terms of the decor and feel of the place, it scores on all three of my top priorities. The lobby is comfortable and in the afternoon they offer a pot of soup. Not sure what that is all about but it's a nice touch. I had a room on the pool, which I was not thrilled about but since there was hardly anyone there when I was, noise did not turn out to be a problem. The indoor pool and spa area is one of the upsides of the inn. The pool is a nice size and the included breakfast is served in a nice courtyard area adjacent to it. There is a fitness room, but it is very limited and won't give you an intense workout. That is one area the Inn may want to look at if ever it renovates. My room was a suite and a bit dark and definitely dated in terms of furnishings, though it did have a high-def flat screen TV with good cable selections. The bed was comfy and since the sleeping room was the furthest room from the pool, no problems with noise. I was there to conduct a retreat for a client and while the upstairs meeting room was adequate, it definitely is dated in terms of what you would expect for meetings. The lighting was marginal but fortunately the room did have windows which made up for that. The plus was the attentiveness of the staff when it came to our business needs. The Inn has no restaurant but there is a good sports bar a short walk across the parking lot and several pizza/sandwich delivery options. Warning: If you have any handicap needs make sure you ask for a first floor room. The Inn has no elevators. Overall, a good value, particularly if you have kids and are settling in for a few days. The pool will be a plus. http://grandvillageinn.com/ « less

Clean modern rooms, very comfortable bed and quality bedding, and more hot/cold breakfast options than many comparable places. Especially good for large groups since there is public areas with tables where you can gather and bring your own in the evenings. Close to both the I 196 freeway and the rock creek mall. « less
