The two days that my family and I were there, they had scrambled eggs for breakfast and didn't change it up. Other hotels that I've been to, they would change around the variety of styles of egg. Not this place. « less

We took our kids to San Diego for a week and stayed 5 nights at the Chula Vista Best Western Plus using 5 groupons. Maria made our reservations and was very helpful and quick. To use the Groupon we had to make the reservation, then bring the codes from the Groupons with us when we checked in. I knew room tax was added on top of what I paid for the Groupon, but it was only $26.75 TOTAL for 5 days! AWESOME.
At first I was worried when we pulled in. They should really call it a motel. The door to each room opens to an outdoor hallway, you don't go INSIDE to walk to your room. The hotel is 3 stories, but they have a nice elevator in the center and stairs on each end. This Best Western is located directly off the 805 freeway. A Circle K gas station is next door which is convienent (it's so close, the parking lot of the Circle K joins with the parking lot of the Best Western). On the other side of the freeway is a shopping center with a Panda Express, Kohl's, Pet Smart, Staples and Babies R Us.
I took the kids to the pool. It is on the smaller side and the deepest end is 5 feet. The hot tub was a perfect temperature, but needed to be cleaned. If you want pool towels you will have to check them out at the front desk with your room number and name. If they are not returned - the fee is $20 per towel. Not an issue for our family as we returned the ones we borrowed.
The lobby is nice. There is a restroom and two computers with internet access. The staff were all friendly, polite and helpful. I needed an extra towel and blanket for my room and I received them right there in the lobby. Sometimes hotels want to send someone up with what you need - then you have to tip them, OR the you never get the item you requested, so I appreciated the quick service.
Breakfast was great in my opinion. The breakfast room is medium size. They have danish pasteries, bread for toast, bagels and cream cheese, delicious muffins (chocolate chip, blueberry, and banana), scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, make-your-own waffles with syrup, hot chocolate, oatmeal, sticky rice, fresh oranges, apples and bananas, and two kinds of cereal. Every morning a staff member is at breakfast refilling and cleaning. I was impressed.
The rooms are great! It seemed to me they had been recently renovated. The washroom cabinets were beautiful and there was a nice piece of art in the bathroom. We had a room with two queen beds. They were soft and had down or down alternative (I'm not sure which) comforters. I slept very well. The room was clean and everything was great except for one thing. The bathroom light and the light switch. I went to the lobby and asked why my bathroom light didn't stay on for more than 5 minutes at a time. The staff member told me they are testing "energy efficient" lights in some of the guest rooms. Apparently some rooms have timers, but mine did not. My 8 year old was in the bathtub and the lights went out on him. He was really scared because the bathroom doesn't have any windows so it was pitch black. I know it's important to be energy efficient, but I would rather have had a timer and not just had the lights cut out every 5 minutes. (We stayed in room 308) I even got caught in the dark a few times while I was in the shower!! For the short time it was on, the light in the bathroom seemed really dim also. I didn't take any stars off for this problem because I figure more people will complain and the hotel will fix the issue. The rooms have a refrigerator, microwave, television, ironing board, iron and blowdryer. The airconditioner worked great and we slept comfortably every night.
Another plus to this hotel is they have a laundry room for guests! They have two washers and two dryers. It was about $1.50 to wash and $1.50 to dry. Since we were staying almost a week I brought my own detergent, so I'm not sure if they had a vending machine that sells it.
My husband used the excercise facility and said it was nice and clean and they had a great water fountain with fresh water.
Other than the light switch issue our stay was fabulous! It was a great location, only 15-20 minutes to the San Diego Zoo and a little more to drive to Sea World. Our family had a great time. « less

Bathroom had very large walk in shower. Only negative point is that our room was right by the ice machine!!!! Very noisy at times in particular the a.m. Laundry facilities were on site and able to freshen some clothes. Definitely recommend and would stay again. It was great. « less

Stayed with a friend over the weekend. Was surprised at how a room could bring so much comfort and convenience with such little space (the size was okay for two people). The room had a large screen LED TV, a refrigerator (which was much larger than what most hotels offered), a small microwave oven and a coffee machine. The beds had a lot of pillows (7 on each bed), and were veeery comfortable. I loved the detail on the headboard and lighting!
The hotel offers buffet breakfast for their guests. The hotel is conveniently situated off the freeway and is right next to a gas station. Grocery stores and mall shops are within a 3 mile radius and downtown San Diego is just a 15-20 minute-drive. « less
