Really enjoyed our stay here. We went for a 'big' birthday and the hotel upgraded us to a larger room, which was hugely appreciated. All staff at all times were helpful and friendly, I couldn't have asked for more. Staff really were a treat when almost everywhere else we went bar the odd exception were staffed by sullen grumps. Rooms were clean, and kept clean with great bathroom accessories. Queen sized bed was very comfortable with good quality bed linen
Location is fantastic, 200 yds or so from Times Square and the ABC Good Morning America Studios - which was always interesting.
Tried a few places for breakfast nearby, preferred the Red Flame Diner on 44th to the Brooklyn Diner on 43rd, cheaper, quicker, not as smart but in many ways better « less

We stayed for 5 nights, on a room only basis. Lovely hotel, room was very clean & spacious we booked a queen executive after reading previous reviews - only fault was that we had a view of the dark airshaft & a crack in the sink, but we only were in the room to bathe & sleep in any case. The beds were comfortable, with maid service every day. The reception staff were extremely pleasant & helpful. The location was brilliant - at one end of the street there was Times Square with all the neon madness, the other end there is the calm Ave of Americas with Bryant Park close by - most of the Broadway theatres are within walking distance & there are plenty of places to eat close by. We will definitely consider staying @ Hotel Mela on a return visit to NYC. « less

We tried the Bistro next door one day and we had breakfast there. It was not really good: $7 for a bagel and not very nice staff. « less

Staff was very friendly, and helpful. Room very tiny-as in all large cities-but great bed and accessories-just stay away from the expensive minibar! You can be charged even if you move something out of position! « less

Half a block from Times Square and the GMA studio, with virtually every Broadway theater within walking distance. We did a marathon of a different show every night, and this hotel was a perfect base. The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel well maintained. Only complaints were a cracked sink and a dark airshaft view, but we were really only in it to sleep. The "executive" room was roomy, clean and comfortable,. Bistro next door is haughty and rude, but there are plenty of others very close. « less
