This location is about 5-6 long blocks from the street car line and about a mile + to the French Quarter. We had two rooms next to each other (247 & 249). They are located in a quiet area of the hotel. There are rooms on the far corner (right of front entrance that could be in a noisier area, since there is a bar with live music across the street. The pool, whirlpool and exercise rooms are okay. There is also a large private courtyard that is great for sitting around and relaxing. The area seems safe, as long as you are aware of your surroundings. Unless you take a cab, you should be ready to walk to most things. Personally, I like the restaurants in Uptown better than those in the French Quarter. They are accessible via street car. « less

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights to atend a medical meeting just 5 minute walking to the convention center. It's also not far from the french quarter and garden district so we managed to take the most out of our stay. Huge rooms with 2 confortable kingsize beds enought for 4. Coffe and tea in the room as well as fridge and microwave. Delicious breakfast but usually too crowded. A small bar just opposite to the hotel where we could get a drink before dinner at the french quarter and fun at Pat o brians pub or a real jazz on the preservation hall. The staff was helpfull. We didn't go to the pool but it seamed OK. Not a luxury but practical, clean, central and nice place to stay in town « less

Stayed here for 5 nights during JazzFest and it was very enjoyable. The location is almost perfect as you are a 15 minute walk to the French Quarter and within 10 minutes walk to the start of some of the businesses on Magazine Street and the Garden District. The hotel layout was a little funky at first but after we figured out where hallways led to we were alright. The rooms were clean and very spacious even with 4 of us. The beds were pretty comfortable though there weren't many outlets in the rooms it seemed and the television didn't have many channels. We were on the second floor overlooking a street that had a club across the way and I am a heavy sleeper but other in our group said they could hear the music in the middle of the night. It would have been great to have one of the rooms that has a sliding glass door into the middle courtyard area. One very disappointing aspect of this hotel was that breakfast ends at 9am. Needless to say, on our vaction we like to sleep in a little and a few days we missed breakfast, which was mediocre but still nice to get a little something to eat in the morning. We visited the pool and hot tub one evening which doesn't seem like it gets much use but was a nice feature to have. For the most part it was never hard to get a taxi as there was typically one waiting outside the hotel(except on Saturday it was quite difficult to find any, anywhere). We didn't interact with the staff much but they did allow us to check in super early (11:30am). We all enjoyed our stayed and were sad to leave. « less

Our family was in New Orleans for Spring break and booked the Springhill based on price and general reputation. We were not disappointed. The hotel was clean and well maintained, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The desk staff cheerfully helped us with finding local restaurants. The breakfast was better than most of the included breakfasts in hotels of this type, partially because the ladies who watched over it really seemed to care about the guests. They kept everything well stocked and greeted everyone with a smile. The only drawback we found was the pool, which was very small. Since our kids were the only ones in it, there was not a problem, but if even a few others had joined them, it would have been crowded. During our stay, the entire area experienced a power outage and the hotel handled it well. Even the general manager made an appearance in the lobby and apologized to everyone. We walked to the French quarter, and to the St Charles streetcar line. If you are going to the convention center, it's also very convenient. We would stay there again. « less

Thank you so much for your kind words. It was great to have the opportunity to serve you and your family and we hope to see you back here again in the near future. I really wish we had the space for a larger pool but I think that the architect thought we needed the space for the hot tub.

But nothing special - other than the location which I liked a lot and the staff which was both pleasant and helpful. To me the construction appeared surprisingly mediocre; the walls were thin, there was already a crack in the sink and the molding was pulling away from the wall. The interior designers appear to have been equally mediocre; the quality of the furnishings was decidedly second-rate (even Ikea furniture is better made) and the colors hardly conducive to relaxation. (Take a look at my photo of the carpet; very Las Vegas!) Furthermore, I really don’t like a carpet under and around the sink; more than anything, it’s unhygienic! Other than to save money in construction, it’s a mystery why the tile floor wasn’t continued from the shower/toilet room to the sink. I found the lack of an in-room safe infuriating; c’mon Marriott, get with it. On the plus side: as I said, the staff was great, the location good, the water was hot and plentiful, and the complimentary in-room wi-fi fast enough. Bottom line: it was JazzFest and I was buying price; during “normal” times in New Orleans (if there is such a thing), the same money will get you a lot more quality. « less
