The hotel is near the river, but not on the bund, on a parallel street. From the metro it is 10-15 minutes to go. Search for the hotel "Venice" two entries from this one. The bathroom has pieces of soap, toothpaste and brushes. TV channels showed only in Chinese. There is no breakfast. Not far away is the Roman Catholic cathedral and the food market. Smoking is allowed throughout the hotel, so even though you can not normally sit near reception and use WiFi, I caught it badly just there. WiFi was not available in the room. The staff’s work is “disturbed" by guests. On the question about the Internet I was sent to a nearby hotel "Venice" on the 11th floor, where for a fee you can use the Internet, in the hall where people smoke. On my query how to get to the mountain park they told to get a taxi but I got real information in the metro (the employee spoke in English!) I should merely take bus from one of the metro-stations and drive up 4 stops. They reserve money on my card when I booked the hotel, then I paid them money on arrival. But the money-reservation on the card bank removed only after 15 days. Do not have computers with Internet access. Mattress of the bed was so "soft" as the floor. There is no difference between the number with "a window" and "no window". My room "with a window" came out to the small patio, where there were stairs on which people walked and looked into my room, so the curtains were closed all the time. Арыентуйцеся на гатэль “Венецыя” праз адзін уваход. у ванным пакоі ёсць кавалкі мыла, зубная паста і шчоткі. тэлевізар паказваў каналы толькі на кітайскай. сняданку няма. Недалёка ад гатэлю знаходзіцца каталіцкі Сабор і рынак прадуктаў харчавання. дазваляецца паліць па ўсёй гасцініцы, таму нават на рэсэпшэне нармальна не пасядзіш, а WiFi у мяне лавіў толькі там і дрэнна. У пакоі WiFi увогуле не лавіў. Персаналу працаваць “перашкаджаюць” госці. На пытанне пра Інтэрнэт паслалі ў суседні гатэль “Венецыя” на 11 паверх, там за плату можна карыстацца Інтэрнэтам, дзе паляць. На пытанне як даехаць да горнага парку сказалі скарыстацца таксі, а на самой справе мне падказалі ў мятро (супрацоўніца размаўляла па-ангельску!), что трэ сесці на аўтобус і пад’ехаць 4 прыпынкі. Браніруюць грошы пры браніраванні, потым ты плаціш ім грошы па прыездзе. А бронь здымае банк толькі праз 15 дзён. няма камп’ютара з доступам у інтэрнэт. Матрац у ў ложыку такі “мяккі”, як падлога. Розніцы паміж нумарам “з акном” і “без акна” няма, бо мой нумар “з акном” выхадзіў ва ўнутраны дворык, дзе ёсць лесвіца, па якой ходзяць людзі і заглядаюць у окна, таму фіранкі ўвесь час закрывалі ў мяне акно. Ангельская мова ў супрацоўнікаў дрэнная. « less

I returned to XDW after my previous stay in March 09. The hotel facilities have not changed, everything is as before and the walk in rate of 118 is maintained. Mix of local Chinese and Asian visitors, mainly for wholesale market. Located behind the iconic landmark of Aiqun Hotel of Guangzhou. I use this hotel, as a tourist due to its low price & convenient location and not for any business.
What I like:
1. Price, price , price - best price with 2 star facilities. It is hard to match or beat this price in this area. Most minimum hotel rates range from 180 to 200(with windows) 2. Location, location, location - 10 mins walk to Haizhu Square(10 rmb taxi), next to river, 10 mins to Shamian Island, Bus 31(2 rmb) to Railway station for ZhanxiLu wholesale market. You can board the Airport Express at the 7/11 in front of Haizhu square for the airport(20 rmb) Access to 24 hour convenience stores 7/11, Family Mart, K Store and food street round the corner. 3. Enclosed shower with 2 shower heads. Superior toilet porcelain without sewage odour in bathroom. 4. Great cleaning crew, they do a great job but will lose to smokers. 5. Kettle and 4 tea bags per day provided. 6. In room internet connection, safe deposit and flat screen TV. 7. Good elevator 8. Electronic weigh scale at reception
What I dont like:
1. No window ( pay extra 50 rmb for window or keep AC on all times to avoid cigarette smoke odour and stale air) 2. Reception has limited English and no tourist information & maps. I was disappointed that I could not find any local Cantonese speaking staff working at the reception.
Places to eat nearby:
1. Noodle King, turn left when you leave the hotel. Wanton Noodle in aircon place for 9 rmb. No english signboard, but photos available. 2. Food street(XiHao2Malu) on the way to RenminNan Lu, around corner of 7/11 with varied choices include halal food, spicy Szechuan boiled fish(30 rmb) 3. Famous roast meat, goose takeaway parallel to food street. 4. Hawkers selling sweet potato, corn, fruits (tangerines 5 rmb/kg) in season 5. HongXing seafood and dim sum facing river near HaiZhu Square (pricey but excellent food)
From HaiZhu square, take the #1 rated Metro in the world to ZhuJiang new town to visit the new Guanzhou CBD to view the Opera house, Library, Museum, Tower and IFC(international financial centre) to rival Shanghai(?) « less
