My wife and I stayed here in May for a weekend getaway and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel interior common areas are very nicely decorated and furnished. The business center looked very well equipped with several computers. The gym was small but had quality machines and some free weights. You get a great view overlooking the pool area and ocean from the treadmills. The hotel exterior is also very attractive with nice landscaping. The staff we encountered were friendly with smiles and greetings as we passed by.
The Pool area was nice and we enjoyed it each day. Pool is good size and heated so it was very comfortable. Hot tub was a little small with capacity for about 8 people but we enjoyed our nightly visit. Most of the recliners were taken in the afternoon but we managed to find a recliner and relax. The recliners were very comfortable. I imagine the pool area would quite full on a peak summer weekend.
Our room (#1044) was on the first floor without a patio. It looks like about 1/3 of the rooms have a patio which would be nice for relaxing but may not be an issue for some. The room was very clean and nicely furnished with a very comfortable bed and large flat screen televison. Room had a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. I really like having a fridge in your room to keep some water and drinks cool. The room had excellent soundproofing. I not once heard anyone above or next to our room which made for a very peaceful night's sleep.
Bathroom was clean and modern. Nice stand up shower only (may be an issue if traveling with small children that need a bathtub), nice tile, glass shower door and a great showerhead.
The hotel is located across the street from the beach. You just cross the street and take a stairway down to the beach (about 62 stairs). The beach itself was nice and plenty of room for us to find a nice peaceful spot to relax. A few surfers and sunbathers on the beach, not crowded at all.
We did not eat at the hotel restaurant Chandlers so not able to comment on that but it looked nice while passing by. There is a shopping center about 1/2 mile from the hotel which has a grocery store and several fast food type restaurants. The Carlsbad Outlet is about 3 miles north with shopping and plenty of restaurants. Downtown Carlsbad is about 5 miles north of hotel with many restaurants and some nightlife too.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and think it is good value for what it cost. The hotel is clean and comfortable in a very nice location. We would definitely stay here again. « less

We just returned from a quick two night getaway at this lovely hotel. It is new, modern and very clean. Our room ( a king bed ocean front on the 3rd floor) was very comfortable. We had a mini fridge, microwave, plenty of nice big towels, robes, slippers and decent toiletries which were replenished. There is a small balcony which overlooks a road and has great views of the ocean. The only negative was the road noise when sitting on the balcony. It could not be heard inside the room though. When we return (and we definitely will), I will ask for a room facing the pool and ocean (Rooms 3046-3066). The rooms are set further back from the road and still have really nice clean views. An added plus would be he ability to hear the live music on Friday and Saturday late afternoon/evenings. We had breakfast at Chandler's twice and dinner there once b all meals were excellent. The pancakes with bananas and butterscotch were delicious as we're the short ribs and sea bass. Overall, our stay was terrific and I would highly recommend this hotel. « less

Just spent a short weekend at the Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort & Spa - what a great hotel! First off, you go to Carlsbad not for nightlife or excitement - you go to relax and hang out. That is the vibe at the Hilton, very low key, laid back, quiet, no rush. It is located across the street from Carlsbad State Beach, it is NOT beach front - you have to walk across the street (there is a cross walk with signal), and down a short wooden boardwalk to get to the beach, or you can drive 2 minutes up the coast road to Carlsbad Beach Park. Everything about the hotel is relaxing, from the fountain at the check-in entrance, to the quiet entry area and long hallways. Our room was fairly large, with a king bed, sofa, large desk, and 50" flat screen. Very nice bathroom, with a large shower (not a tub) with glass walls/door. The room also has a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker with Lavazza coffee. The patio was very nice, with two fire pits for relaxing in the evening, a large saltwater pool with sloping entry, and a small but nice hot tub. There is also a kiddie pool. There were plenty of lounge chairs and sofas around the pool, and the restaurant provides full service to the pool area. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant, Chandlers, but as is often the case with high-end resort hotels, it was on the pricey side. Could be well worth it, but we didn't have a chance to eat there. The one annoying thing is you have to either pay for self parking, which is in a garage across the street from the hotel, or pay for valet parking. It would be nice to have a no-pay option. The area around the hotel is pretty quiet. There is a small home development across the street, and across Carlsbad Blvd is the state beach park, so it is very quiet. Nearby is the city beach park, and around the corner is a small shopping center with a grocery store, drug store, a couple of fast food places, a Starbucks, and a gas station, and there are lots of other restaurants a short drive away. Anyway - if you want excitement, nightlife, lots of restaurants and attractions - stay in San Diego. If you want to relax in a quiet, very nice new hotel with near access to awesome beaches - the Hilton Carlsbad will be a great choice. « less
