We are proud to present to you the completely new boutique style hotel: The Poet Hotel Amsterdam.
Centrally located in the chic Museum Quarter, just a stone throw away from the bustling and lively centre of Amsterdam.
Behind the facade of a large, impressive town mansion you find the Poet Hotel Amsterdam, a brand new design tourist-class hotel with far more facilities than you would expect from a hotel of this category.
The Poet hotel is situated in the prestigious Jan Luijkenstraat. Jan Luijken was a Poet from the 17th century who inspired us in the design for our totally new concept hotel.
The Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum and the Van Gogh Museum are all only a few yards from the hotel on the Museum square where also the world famous Concertgebouw is situated.
Around the corner you will find the prestigious PC Hooft street with its top designer shops. The Vondelpark, Amsterdam's green heart, and the well known Leidseplein entertainment district, with the Holland Casino, are in the immediate vicinity. The Albert Cuyp market and the Heineken Brewery is less than a 10 minute walk away.

I stayed here for three nights while attending a conference. For the amount I paid I found the hotel offered poor value for money compared with another hotel where I stayed for one night, which was almost half the price and much more comfortable.
The Poet hotel was shabby throughout, the breakfast was poor and the shower was almost impossible to direct. The single room was very difficult to move around in because it was so narrow. The single bed was also exceptionally narrow and sagged in the middle. I slept poorly throughout my stay. I don't know why this hotel attracts such good reviews. The only positive thing I can say is that it is very close to the museums, tram stops ad restaurants, and in a nice neighbourhood. « less

We stayed as a family of 4 (with two children aged 11 and 9) in August 2012 for 2 nights. Our room was large, very clean, and modern. Double bed and two single sofa beds for the children - all very comfortable. Modern excellent bathroom. Breakfast was good. Location was great, easy to get a tram from there or walk. We would stay again. « less

Let me start with the staff first. They are extremely friendly, knowledgeable about the area and will go out of their way for you. You can store your luggage if you get there before your room is ready. Room Pros: Well priced, GREAT location, clean, modern, comfy bed, well lit, everything worked. Hot water comes very quickly. Good pillows and comforter. Hotel has been recently remodeled.
Cons: VERY small. All the other reviews aren't kidding, it's about the size of half of a cruise ship's cabin. For a couple like us (early 30s and just the two of us) it was just fine. We didn't mind the size however, we did mind how thin the walls were. We could hear all our neighbors' comings and goings, etc... Also the room was cold. It was about 0 to 3 degrees Celcius (around 32F) outside and it was chilly on the inside although we had some heat. Once in bed, it was ok.
Bear in mind, hand soap is provided but not bar soap. They claim the hand soap is also for hair, body, etc... bring your own conditioner/bar soap/shampoo if you're concerned about that sort of thing.
Towels were provided.
Internet access is 3Euro/day, breakfast was free and nice (toast, soft boiled eggs, juice, coffee, cereal/milk, fruit)
Just a block from the 5 and 2 trams and a block from museums, a nice square and a great safe, family oriented area. There are rooms that are bigger but this fit us just fine. Many steep stairs but a lift is available.

We stayed at The Poet for a weekend in March 2013 and as frequent Amsterdam visitors were very impressed. Just 2 tram stop from Leidseplein and 4-5 from Central Station the location of The Poet is great.
The reception staff were really friendly, sharing jokes with us and facilitating an early check in. The rooms are basic but stylish, the only thing I didn't like was the lack of a bath. The beds were very comfy and room clean. The breakfast that was included is a basic continental but the coffee was great and refills free.
Overall a real find, we'll definitely stay again. « less
