Amsterdam, Netherlands in a nutshell

The premier city of Netherlands is a master at churning out surprises one after another, hence it may be an eyeful for the uninitiated visitor. That said, the city's visual treats are meant to be savored in all its glory. Amsterdam is nirvana to the hedonists, leisure-seekers and Van Gogh enthusiasts of the world. As you explore your way through, you can't help but admire the canals and houseboats that are rightful landmarks of the Dutch capital. Amsterdam's museums are legendary, headlined by the Van Gogh Museum and the Rembrandt House that features the seminal works of the two Dutch masters. Experience more of the cultural climate in Amsterdam by visiting Rijksmuseum, National Maritime Museum and Anne Frank House. Amsterdam is compact, which makes exploring it on foot as an excellent option to get acquainted with Dutch culture. While walking around the city, you'll most likely come upon the coffee shops legally selling marijuana to their patrons. The hash brownies are a must-try for an experience that's out of this world.

'I put my heart and my soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process “ these are the famous words of Vincent van Gogh, the era-defining artist from the city of canals, Amsterdam. Amsterdam is one of the most popular cities to visit in the world, so it is natural that this city has a lot of hotels to choose from. Lots of different people come to visit Amsterdam, so the hotels here are different and unique as well, and every traveler can be sure to find something that fits their budget and taste. This short article will introduce you to the most popular and well-rated hotels in Amsterdam and will make your preparation for the trip easier.

Budget Stays in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a great city for those who travel on a budget, because most of Amsterdam hotels are not as expensive as they might be in other cities. Qbic Hotel Amsterdam WTC, Holiday Inn Express, Hotel La Boheme, Hotel van Onna “ these are just a few ones that you can find in Amsterdam for a low price. They are nice, modern and great if you are traveling with friends or family. Most of the more conservative choices are in the city center or near it which makes the whole trip much easier. Transportation can be a bit pricy in Amsterdam, so it is a good idea to stay in a place within a walking distance from the most popular attractions in the city.

When in Search for Luxury

When you think about Amsterdam, luxury is not the first thing that comes to your mind, but this city can definitely offer you just that. Hotels in Amsterdam can be really luxurious and will show you a different side of a city. Among true comfort and posh enthusiasts the Toren, Banks Mansion, Golden Tulip Amsterdam West and Grand Hotel Amrath Amsterdam are the first places on their lists. These hotels are among the best in the city and loved by travelers who want to make their trip really special and unforgettable. However, if you are ready to spend a lot for a stay and are looking for the most luxurious hotel in the city, Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is the best choice. This is an aesthetically incredible hotel with a superior service and will make your trip truly magical.

Feel the True Spirit of Amsterdam

Though boutique and independent hotels in Amsterdam are not very popular (there are only 19 of them), there are still several that stand out. Museum Suites is a great boutique mansion built in 19th century and is located in Amsterdam's Museum district. This district mesmerizes every traveler with its unique historical buildings. Canal House is another great choice for those who want to wake up every morning and see the beautiful canals through their window. Other Amsterdam hotels like Seven One Seven, Hotel V Nesplein and The Dylan are located in the heart of city and a walking distance from the best restaurants in Amsterdam. These are among the cheap hotels compared to the prices of luxurious ones, but they can fit specific tastes of some tourists.

Hotels Near Airport in Amsterdam

Sometimes flight delays are inevitable and you are forced to spend a night in a hotel next to the airport. Or even if your flight is not delayed, you might just want to have a good rest before your next flight. Whatever the case is, in Amsterdam you do not have to worry about sleeping in bad hotels, because hotels such as Hilton, Sheraton, Bastion or Best Western are comfortable, cozy and perfect for an overnight stay. They are not classified as cheap hotels, but really worth the price, because you will fresh and ready for your flight the next day.

Best Time to Visit City of Canals

Amsterdam is full things to do there during any season, so it is up to you to decide when to go there. Amsterdam is a city of flowers and famous for the tulips, so of course spring is a great choice for those who want to see their famous tulip fields which will truly mesmerize you. Amsterdam is also full of parks with beautiful gardens and ponds, so if you visit this city during the warmer season, you might enjoy the nature of the city even more. However, if you decide to travel to Amsterdam in the summer, fall or winter, you will still find things to see there. There are loads of museums, bars and cafes worth visiting that will keep you warm. Whenever you decide to go, the beauty of canals and the city is there all year long, so you will not be disappointed.

Tourist Attractions in Amsterdam

This city is full not only of tulips, but of great museums and other amazing places worth seeing. A lot of people go there to enjoy things that are forbidden in other countries, but Amsterdam has a lot to offer. First of all, be ready to be amazed by the unique architecture of the city. It is worth going around the city and exploring it, because one district is more beautiful than another. There are lot of great museums too.  One of them, the famous Van Gogh museum, is a great choice for art lovers and for those who want to experience the amazing world of this artist from a closer look. Central Library is a must see even if you are not planning on reading books there. This huge library will amaze you with its variety of books and you will not even notice how you will end up spending hours there. If you, however, would like to learn more about the history of the city, city tours are always a great choice to learn and to see at the same time.

Verified reviews of the city of Amsterdam

Below are reviews of the city of Amsterdam, Netherlands from an actual visitor's perspective.

"Fantastic Stay!"
Score 5.0 / 5

Amsterdam is only about 15-20 Minutes by bus from the hotel (bus stop directly in front of the hotel). The bus goes directly to the Amsterdam Central Station, which is a good place for last moment shopping. Amsterdam is a nice city, almost all main attractions are in walking distance from the center. I recommend walking around in early morning hours on the weekend, as most people only tend to come out after 10 am. The market by the canals is a must, and also the "Begijnhof" - a little oasis of peace in the busy city. The houses around the canals are very beautiful, and just walking around gives you a feeling of seeing something very special.

Jana Krcma S., from 20-Sep-2017
"Meetings in Amsterdam"
Score 5.0 / 5

Amsterdam is a historic city with a futuristic outlook that meshes business growth with sustainable initiatives. In the esteemed ICCA rankings, which examine meetings statistics around the globe, the Netherlands has been placed 10th in the world. The Union of International Associations (UIA) also named Amsterdam as one of the top 10 international conference locations. Schipol International Airport is one of the biggest and best served airports in Europe situated just 10 min by train to the city centre. Amsterdam is also packed with cultural, historical and architectural delights – from museums and attractions to restaurants and nightlife. The city's cultural scene is always bustling with international stars of art, music and performance, ensuring visitors can have both a memorable meeting and remarkable experiences after hours.
