Spent 3 nights at this excellent hotel. Easy to find in rental car from the airport. Reprint very friendly and helpful with quick check in. Large room on the fourth floor with 2 queen beds, small fridge and microwave. Good breakfast with hot choice as well as cereals and pastries. Parked car in secure garage nearby for free. Used the Metro, only 3-4 mins walk from hotel. Bought day pass for $6. Ey trip into downtown LA. Would recommend this hotel, enjoyed our stay. « less

I would thoroughly recommend Holiday Inn Express we took our Daughter and Grandson and booked two rooms for 4 nights. The rooms were quite large, clean and the beds were very comfortable. A good location from the airport with a free shuttle bus to take you to and from the airport, you must phone from the airport when you want to be picked up, we found a service desk who phoned for us. Breakfast was basic but what do you expect for free, quite adequate to start the day off. The staff was excellent and very friendly and helpful.Free internet and a nice swimming pool to lounge around and relax to get over the shopping. Being from New Zealand we didn't have a car but we caught the bus down to the South Bay Galleria great shopping to be had down there. Apart from the actual shopping center behind is a Target, there is Nordstron Rack great bargains to be had from there and over the road a DSW shoe wholesalers, amazing bargains. You can shop until you drop, so Holiday Inn Express for us was in a great location. We then went onto New York and then came back for another night in LA before we flew home to New Zealand. « less

This is my family's second stay at the HI Express Hawthorne. This time, we stayed just one night after a 13-hour transpacific flight, before flying on to Oregon the next day, and I'm happy to report that we enjoyed our stay (again).
Service was still top-notch --- front desk, shuttle driver. We were immediately given a bag of goodies (being Priority Club members) and a set of LA maps (part of the room package). Best of all, we were upgraded to a suite with a sofa, small dining table and a little extra space. I wasn't too happy being on the ground floor at first (we asked for a higher floor), but it turned out OK --- the breakfast hall was just a few steps away and that was very convenient for a one-night stay.
The room, however, is showing some wear and tear. We encountered peeling wallpaper, a cracked outlet, scuff marks and scratches on the dark wood-like surface of the furniture ---- disappointing when you consider that the hotel is still relatively new. (2 years ago, the room condition was impeccable.)
Breakfast was thoroughly enjoyable. It was exactly the same as we recalled from 2 years ago (some guests might think that's a minus point), but that suited us fine. The pancake machine, the bagels, the cartons of milk and chocolate milk and yoghurt, the egg and sausage patties, the juice and coffee --- we had our fill and still rate the free breakfast rather highly (never mind the paper plates and cutlery). A good thing, too, since we ended up waiting more than 9 hours at LAX airport for our onward flight to Portland!
Work a bit on the maintenance, HI Express --- but otherwise, a job well done. « less

We rented a car, so we chose a Holiday Inn Express a little further from the airport. The parking was secure, and we needed a code to enter. We arrived late the first night, and even though parking is plentiful in this enclosed area, we had to park out in the open, on the upper deck. The room was huge, and comfortable. We faced the busy street and alley, but we were not disturbed by traffic noise. The breakfast area was spacious, but full each of the three mornings we stayed. The fare is the same as most Holiday Inn Express locations - and all of it was delicious: yogurt, cereals (raisin bran chosen), bacon Sunday with sausage other days, eggs scrambled Sunday and omelet other days, biscuits and gravy; cinnamon buns, bananas, pastries and bread and bagels. Coffee, tea, oatmeal, cocoa. But due to lack of space, we had to bring the food back to the room each morning. We didn't have a table area, at which we could eat, so it was messy. The bathroom was spacious, with working plumbing and plush towels. For a room so big, we were surprised by the size of microwave and fridge: tiny! Both were adequate, though. The staff was personable and efficient, and when we return next year, we will stay here again! « less

This is a very new property, it is extremely clean and the lobby is open and well lit. The staff I encountered were attentive, pleasant and friendly. You get a free breakfast with your stay and it is better than the average "free" breakfast. The 2 days we stayed there they had eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, yogurts and cereals and assorted pastries. I would only like to have seen fresh fruit, like a fruit salad offered as well, oatmeal would have been appreciated, too. Those 2 items would have put the breakfast into the really good category. The room we stayed in had 2 queen size beds and the bathroom was of a really good size and well lit. Plenty of room to hang towels and lots of counter space. However, a bowed-out shower curtain rod had been installed and then the shower curtain was too short to really provide adequate coverage and even though I was careful, some water ended up on the bathroom floor during a shower. Not a big deal, but a detail that I think was worth mentioning. The beds were extremely comfortable and you got 2 pillows per person, firm and soft, nice to have the choice as I HATE firm pillows you usually get in a hotel. Parking is in a gated garage(you get a code at check in) just across a very small street and it is free. The hotel is located in what I would call a working class neighborhood with some business scattered throughout. A limo service/car parts yard was behind a fence in the pool area but was not noisy or bothersome at all. Several gas stations and bus stops in the area added an urban feel to it but the area was in no way dangerous. I felt totally safe late at night walking from the car to the hotel and would have certainly walked to the gas station for sodas/snacks if I needed to. The swimming pool was small but adequate and the spa was rated for 6 occupants and was very warm and clean. However, the 2 hours we spent at the pool there were no towels in the pool area and no one from housekeeping came to replenish them. No big deal as we just took towels from the fitness center. Speaking of that, the fitness center was 1 recumbent bike, 1 treadmill and 1 elliptical trainer. No weights or multi-station weight machine, that was a disappointment to me as I like both weights and cardio equipment to be available. The hotel indicates that if offers a shuttle to and from the airport, we did not use it as we had a rental car. We were able to travel to LAX car rental return on a Monday morning from the hotel using surface streets and avoiding any freeways, in less than 10 minutes, no joke. Stay off the freeways during rush hour to get to the airport from here and you should be fine. Some of the nicest details about this hotel was that each room was stocked with plenty of towels, 4 each of washcloths, hand towels and bath towels. Plus the towels were thick and soft, unusual for a hotel. Another bonus of this room was the at least 6 outlets to use for recharging electronic devices. Usually hotels fall short on this and you have to unplug lamps to charge your phone, not so here. Very nice detail. Our room had a microwave and a small refrigerator, a very nice bonus to stash leftovers from our Chinatown meal! One more thing I loved about this hotel is that the elevators were located in a corridor away from the rooms. This corridor was even equipped with doors that could be closed at night, thus limiting the noise of guests using the elevators during nighttime hours- a real bonus to assuring a good night's sleep. In spite of its close proximity to the airport, I heard no airplane noise. Of course, the A/C fan was set to be on all night and provided a white noise effect that may have help cancel out any noise pollution. This hotel is a great choice if you need to be near LAX. I would certainly stay here again. « less
