About the Inn… A truly historical experience begins at The Margarita European Inn. From the moment you enter the front door, you will experience the elegance and service of an era you thought only existed in memory. The Margarita European Inn began its life in 1927 as The Margarita Club for Working Women. Originally, the building served as a hotel/apartment house for young business women needing proper housing. Father David O’Leary and his sister, Mrs. Margaret Lynch, with the support of St Mary’s Catholic Church purchased the land and built the facility naming it in honor of their mother and sister, both named Margaret. In 1989, the transformation from the Margarita Club to the Margarita European Inn began. Over the years, twenty-two various sized rooms with lovely private bathrooms were created. In keeping with the history of the Margarita’s roots, some of the original rooms were kept on every floor. The Margarita is a longtime mainstay of the Evanston hotel scene and the Northwestern University community; parents often book a year in advance during the University’s busy seasons. Parents, family, visiting professors and speakers, have graced the charming rooms of the hotel. Our neighbors often refer to us as “Evanston’s extra guest room.” The Margarita European Inn still maintains the Margarita Club's breathtaking original architecture. Our forty-two rooms have each been furnished with antiques and many personal touches make each room unique in layout and décor. We invite our guests to enjoy our complimentary continental breakfast served in the charming Grand Parlor each morning. Our Grand Parlor, with floor to ceiling French doors, vintage molding and wood burning fireplace, is also great place to visit with friends or enjoy a glass of wine in true European-Style. You may also find our cozy English library, filled with books for your reading enjoyment, a fine place to just sit back and enjoy life's finer pleasures. With The Margarita European Inn’s antique-laden decor, gracious hospitality and intimate atmosphere, it’s no wonder we were listed in the Chicago Tribune as one of the top five most comfortable hotel lobbies in Chicago land. The Margarita Inn operated by Michael Pure, a life-long resident of the Chicago land area. Michael's family background in the hospitality business exposed him to the idea of being a gracious host at an early age. It’s this same sense of ‘being of service’ that Michael intends to bring to The Margarita and the international array of guests that frequent the hotel.
